People are giving lizard squad too much credit. These networks have been spotty on Christmas for years now and as everything's moved to an online infrastructure it has only gotten worse. I'd prefer to think that the networks buckled under the immense weight of the Christmas day traffic.

I imagine the point of this is that they're pathetic loners who have never been noticed in their entire lives because they're so insignificant. By doing this, they can finally get some kind of validation for their existence. People finally noticed them.
