LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

How about a change.org or whitehouse.gov petition? Let's get it going fellas.

We demand 6 free games

A statement from Obama

and monetary compensation for physical and emotional damages.

So if Obama isn't going to help us.,.

We need to start listing demands for this outage.

At least 6 free games to choose from (we only get the choice of one) across all Sony's platform and a month of PSN added for people?

Doesn't seem unreasonable.

oh my god lol

Ah, in that case I can see your point and usually I'd agree but in this instance I'm just concerned about anything that will cause these skids to surface more often. I'd prefer to hear these guys are behind bars than get a free game since its looking highly likely they're gonna keep this up throughout 2015. If MS or Sony were even partially responsible however I'd expect some form of compensation, but right now no data or anything is at risk.

My main issue is the amount of children being locked out of their present right now so if anyone should be compensated I'd say it's systems registered between the 24th up to a reasonable time from whenever the system is back up. All of us with pre registered systems can use them at least.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I don't want kids thinking that these consoles are normally like this and return the system :( Thank you for understanding my concerns :)

I could make a long list why this is the best place to live in the whole world but that's for another thread and topic.

It wasn't a serious question, it was a reference to Adam Orth, ex-Microsoft game exec, who made the bad taste remark on Twitter in response to concerns over Xbox One's (now original) online-only nature.

Huh. Makes sense PSN is down. When will Sony learn from Microsoft about how to make state of the art network infrastructure? These clowns are making it easy to understand the Xbox is a better system overall.

Tcp/ip is the problem. there's not much companies can do here. People in the 80s didn't think about ddos attacks and it's the protocol we all have to use

Store still down.
It seems I won't be able to buy the games on sale I want =[

I know it is not Sony fault, but it is not ours either. I believe every hour the system is down should be added to the PS+ subscription of those who have it.

Did you read the article? they specifically stated it was after sony upgraded it's security after the hack..it is not hard to believe there network is very secure now. MS is not god or the be all end all.

Never said they were, only that proof is in the pudding. First time, PSN and personal accounts get released. This last time, social security numbers and such - and that just happened in the past month.

Have they been upgrading security? Of course, but they had to upgrade because they were compromised twice in the last handful of years, and the second time was worse than the first, which was already bad.

Microsoft may have "worse" security, but they have plenty of folks who hate them as a company and would gladly target them I am sure, yet, all we've had is denial of service. So, what, do hackers just hate sony more? Seems a bit odd.

If Sony plays their cards right they come out the victim of nasty trolls with more than 24 hours of news coverage as it is. Add in the Sony movie hacks and then still releasing The Interview. They have had a lot of coverage of their company. They can use it to their advantage. If they gave a free game or something to "all those affected during their holidays". Great use of the news coverage and publicity. No publicity is bad publicity. They just have to drive home their narrative when the ddos stops.

If this starts to affect the bottom line then there will be money to be made from finding a way to prevent it. It's not magic, it's just capitalism.

I'm not convinced that this is the case, but if DDoS cannot be defended against then then what follows? Gangs of teenagers attempting to extort money from companies? Eventually the internet will have to adapt to eliminate the threat.

There has always been money to be made from it. Entire businesses run off of it. Gaming servers going down won't change a thing since much more important targets have been wanting this fixed for years. It still doesn't change anything since the tech is only as good as it can be.

It's like saying PS4 will do 4K uncharted because there's money to be made. There is, but it doesn't make it possible.

Back on PSN on PS4 in BC Canada. I have 9 friends on when usually around 50 and its definitely not working great. Its showing signs at least.

They were too busy on their Nintendos to think about it. ;)

Technically, they'd have been too busy on their Magnavox Odyssey, Fairchild Channel F, or Coleco Telstar, since the TCP protocol was laid out in '76.

If this starts to affect the bottom line then there will be money to be made from finding a way to prevent it. It's not magic, it's just capitalism.

True. But the only endpoint here, the only true solution, is to scrap the internet as it exists now and start over from scratch. It will cost insane amounts of money, take years to migrate corporations and businesses over, and that's only AFTER the entire world agrees to the new standard - and a lot of countries and companies won't, insisting on staying on the current infrastructure. It's magic to think that capitalism solves all problems when pressed hard enough - it doesn't have a great track record really. Captialism tries to protect capitalism, even if it kills itself in the process.

Last month was not PSN, nor did it have anything to do with PSN PSn has been rock solid since the hack, your confusing different things. The Sony pictures hack had zero to do with PSN. PSN was only ever breached once, not twice.

Why are you turning this into a "mine is better then yours" contest? Both got DDoSed and both are having peoblems. It is as simple as that.

All my friends who stayed logged in. ( didn't actually sign out in the ps4 menu) are back in. My stupid ass disconnected so I could play dragon age and now I can't log back in. They are all playing destiny.

:(

Is XBL still gasping for air?

I really pick bad times to buy consoles. Last year I got a Windwaker Wii U and I couldn't play any of my games because they were digital downloads. This year I got the AC Unity XBOne with Halo MCC and XBL rolled over under pressure.

I've pretty much accepted stuff breaking to some extent around the holidays as a fact. Nothing is perfect and anything will break if you push it far enough. But god is it irritating.

Sony Pictures =/= PSN. Upgrading PSN's security has nothing to do with Sony Pictures networks. Just because it's the same parent company doesn't mean they're all networked together and using the same systems.

I feel entitled to have one or two extra days tacked on to my membership. That's all that was taken from me and is all I'm owed.

And honestly it's one damn day so I don't even care about getting it refunded.

To an EXTENT, it's a different matter, but not fully. Anyways, I'm hoping for Microsoft and Sony to form a temporary alliance and find these people.

i'm not sure if you heard since you're new to GAF and all but there's a console war going on. you're gonna kill troop morale with this talk of "ceasefire" and "alliance"

I`m done with consoles, paying for online access in games and then u get no access because their fucking shitty servers are not smart enough to shitlist 12 year old script kiddies.

PC here i come.

Hahahahaha YEESH guys I don't think "raped in prison" is a serviceable punishment for these goons considering it would mean that they'll finally have sex lives.

Haha.. this thread is also people blaming Sony and MS for getting DDoS'd? xD

Nothing anyone could do, Xbox isn't master race, PSN users don't deserve to get shit on, Yes PC is god tier, we know people you know took back the system, we get it.

My PS+ ran out today, was planning on renewing it and playing some Rebirth.

That was the plan this morning anyway... Now I've bought Rebirth on Steam.

I still want some of those PSN sale deals though, Sony pls.

Can't seem to log on to PSN on my PS4, but can easily do so on my Vita and PS3 anybody else having that exact problem?

PSN uses different login servers and systems for the individual consoles, so while PS3 and Vita seem to be doing better, PS4 is still having issues: either leftover troubles from the DDoS attack, or it's struggling due to the Christmas rush of new consoles connecting, it's hard to tell. But yes, PSN on PS4 is "intermittent" at best, depending on where you live.

You fool! Now they're going to start DDoS'ing Steam for sure! :P (I hope they don't do it again).

See you for the next big console hype train.

At first, I thought "Yeah, fair enough. They've been attacked or Christmas is stressful on servers...the lack of communication isn't that bad."

But now with them only trying to boost followers to their Ask Playstation Twitter who just give the same reply to every single person, I think the lack of communication is really a terrible thing.

I don't need free games, or PS+ Plus to maker it better but I think a formal statement/apology on their main Twitters is more than appropriate right now. It's as if they want to ignore the elephant in the room.

I'm just want to play Dragon Age and my other gifts, so please understand(no pun intended) SOME of my frustration :(

I totally get your frustration. That is 100% understandable. I just can't fathom two people returning a PS4 because they couldn't login to PSN for two days. I mean, what are they going to do now? Just not play? XBL is/was down too so that knocks XB1 out. So basically they are either PC gamers or the Wii U.

Wait, the Wii U ... I think I know who LizardSquad is!

Can't seem to log on to PSN on my PS4, but can easily do so on my Vita and PS3 anybody else having that exact problem?

For the past day I've been getting some PSN on my PS3 and nothing on the PS4. PS3 shows me my friends list and stuff like that.

I said I won't complain AS MUCH!

TWO of my friends expected their PS4s to properly work and returned their units.
I actually believe this story, because I've seen equally rediculous people on GAF.

"I bought a console a month after it came out without doing research and the library isn't as good as last gen yet so I'm selling it!!"

Games are toys and oftentimes gamers act like children.

:(
I disconnected a few times an connected again no problem, then I couldn't reconnect for a while. I just left it on the home screen for a while (about a half hour) and I'm back in.

It's great that both US and EU psn have sales going, considering i can't buy anything since the store won't load since the ddos started.

The Christmas Day Treaty of 2014 was a temporary truce between console war participants Microsoft and Sony to find the belligerents known as Lizard Squad.

Historians have said this day marked a tidal change in the console war landscape.

I don't even know what to say at this point. It just sucks to be off work and not able to download the update to Driveclub to see this weather stuff.......... or play COD:AW online....... It's not going to ruin my day but it'd be cool to try them out. I just don't understand why anyone would want to do this. It's not like they're going to get any personal accolades, unless they get caught.

If only Microsoft had a few more megabits of ram in their ISP lines this bullshit wouldn't happen. I'm goddam sick of their complacency. Every XBL member should be compensated a free year of PSN.

Obviously this isn't their fault, but hopefully this may lead to developers/publshers loosen their grip on their whole "always online" idea, when they see how easy it is to keep paying subscribers out of their system.

They've been so tone-deaf and oblivious on how shaky the internet can be and how fragile people's connections are (for example, in the last two years, I've had my electricity go out once, for 30 minutes. In comparison, my internet, has gone out around once a month, for a total of around 100 hours over the last two years - and I live in LA, not the boondocks. Add in PSN going out, and it's much worse). And if anything, it seems that their server stability has gotten worse, not better.
