LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

PSN appears to be up for a much greater number of people than it was previously. I was able to log in last night and play without interruption. Upon waking up this morning and reading that some were still having problems, I turned on my PS4 to see if it would log in and it did without issue.

I can't guess why some are still having issues but it might be worth trying the normal troubleshooting steps on your end (resetting router, etc..) to see if that helps at all.

It's possible they may be bringing up access gradually so the load doesn't collapse it again.

These kinds of connection generally consume more resources during the beginning. Think like starting up multiple electrical devices at once, except with data instead of power. If you start too many electrical devices simultaneously you may trip the breaker.

Thats what I would assume. Seems like for most its working again. Or at least a much greater number than it has been the past few days. Wish I could check on my ps4 but Im out of town

Does anyone know how XBL is doing?

Just played some mcc games without issue

I got fooled big time by that 4 games 1 pick deal. I thought it was for everyone at first, not just the people that buy a new PS4.

Looks like Battlefield is back to normal

I'm beginning to think that PSN is having issues unrelated to the DDOS attack. XBL has been up and working for me for the past 2 and half days, yet PSN is contantly timing out. The store, in particular, isn't working well at all.

I at least got signed in once last night and could access the store, but could not connect to any online games or leaderboards. I thought that progress was being made, but nope, it's completely out again here in Ga.

What? Sony have communicated about what is happening, just because they don't personally text you or tell you face to face doesn't mean they aren't.
Funny, I just got done reading an article on the front page of CNN regarding the attacks and Sony's piss poor communication throughout all this was specifically brought up.

Uhm...
No offense but...
In this age people feels a bit too entitled..
This is not a life or death service, it's a paid entertainment service that is having issue due to EXTERNAL source..
While i appreciate public statement, it's not something i can go and require out of them..
Rest assurde i expect some sort of communication once the problem is completely solved, or even some minor compensation, but that's that..
If some of you guys get so worked up for psn not working i can't imagine what you would do with dunno.. Phone not working? You'd go on a killing spree at your phone service main office?

Anyway..
This proves my statement..
Freedom is a wonderful thing, but some people should not have all the freedom they have..
Take pricks like this.. Disturbing an else peaceful period of relax..
Take swatters..
I'd like these guys spend their times in some "less take-everything-for-granted environment" and i'd love to see if they still find time to disturb other people or not...

I just read an article on CNN about the attacks and nothing was mentioned about Sony's communication. They did say that Microsoft briefly put something up on the Xbox, which I personally never saw, so I guess that was poor communication as well.
Obviously they were/are both working on it, so what do you want? Do they have to IM you with updates?
The best thing to do is keep trying and keep an eye on GAF to see if anyone is getting on.

PSN available only with MTU at 1970.

Has anyone done a wireshark and taken a look at the login packets being sent to PSN? Are they anywhere near max size?

I find it hard to believe they would be so why would changing MTU be having any effect (other than causing you to login/logout).

I disagree on the external source. Attacks stopped days ago.
Its logical that the PSN is down when is getting attacked. But its not when the attacks stopped 3 days ago and yet the network isnt working as it should.

If phone wont work for 3 days, I would do the same. Complain. And Im in my goddamn right to do, because Im paying.

Indeed. I mean, I put the blame squarely on the clowns that are doing this. But I can't say that I am impressed with Sony's efforts in restoring the service I am paying for. It is beyond the point of being a mere inconvenient hiccup now.

Just read something semi-interesting on a finnish news-site (reliable btw).

It said than Finnish National Bureau of Investigation is considering/investigating whether the alleged hacker (blond guy skype-interview) has committed an actual crime.

Finnish NBI has been in contact with US authorities on the subject and it also says that the blond guy is familiar to the local police.

I will post the link, so that you can translate it properly via internet or something...

Someone (boredandlazy) mentioned earlier in this thread that maybe Sony is putting stuff in place, trying to prevent similar things to happen again. I think that sounds very plausible, and i hope that its true. It sounds crazy to me that it would take about 3 days to simply reboot/restore the service at least.

That would be great when all is said and done. But yeah, it has still crossed over into ridiculous territory now.

Wait, you need to change your MTU size to connect to PSN with a PS4? Most of the gamers don't even know what the MTU size is. Sony really need to make their OS/network connection more consumer friendly/easy to use.

Agreed.

People defending it just makes me laugh.

Both my PS3 & PS4 have been back up since last night. It's amazing how thick headed some people are being in the comment box on the PS Blog.

Sure complain, but make some sense while doing so.

I don"t know why it's working, but it does. I can't connect at all at the standard MTU size of 1500, but if I drop it to 1470 ish or even 1430 ish I get straight in.

I'm not even trying to get on. I have work etc. I come to GAF to keep updated on the news as it relates to gaming. I'm not looking for an apology. I just think we should expect more from these companies. Not just Sony but all companies that are involved in a hack or breach. Sony should have learned this lesson by now. Transparency should be key. I remember how exciting Christmas was growing up. I remember getting that SNES and playing all day with my brother and Dad. You've got a bunch of kids and parents that aren't on GAF wondering for days why their PS4 isn't working. It's not right.

I agree, worked for me (just tried!).

Its just very weird from a technical point of view

Edit: Hell the fact that MTU is even part of the network setup on a very consumer device is a little unusual
