LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

What's this MUT thing I keep seeing? What does it stand for?

MTU, max trans unit. Defines max packet size to be sent. Really shouldn't be fixing anything. Only things I can see is either it's allowing you to some how get around some potential ddos mitigation, or resetting the next work config and resolving some other unrelated issue.

I'm right in the mid west USA and I STILL cannot connect to PSN on my PS4. My PS3, PS app, and sonyentertainmentnetwork.com all connects, but trying on my PS4 just gives me a network connection lost. #WakeUpSony

Midwest here and it's been working for me since early last night like around 7PM, able to play CoD AW, The Crew, and Little Big Planet 3 online no issues, checked now and I can still sign in to the website

I had the same issue last night. PS3 connected with no issues but couldn't login on PS4 even though my brother 20mins away could. Then i changed my MTU to 1473 and was able to login on PS4. Weird.

YUP! Sony is stupid. It worked for me as well. Change MTU to 1473 if anyone else is having a problem. I cannot thank you Gaffers enough. I was ready to trade-in for an XB1.

Right, bit of an update. I set my MTU back to automatic and reset my router. PSN came back automatically. Restarted my console, can't get it back up.

FFS.

Its kinda cool that i got the ps3/ps4 combo of destiny, i can play the ps3 version if i wish.

But this whole thing has broken me out of the destiny addiction and i dont wanna risk falling back off the wagon.

Nothing for me. I've been trying to sign in on my account but switched user to my brothers and found his account logged in to psn. Tried the store, it worked, signed out and tried to signed back in but gave the error. Lol whoops.

UK here.

Tried alot of MTU numbers and haven't had any luck.

Lost access to PSN on Xmas eve, still don't have it back. On the upside, I now own an Xbox One thanks to this situation. It's going to be where I buy all my online titles from here on out.

Orlando, FL here and still nothing. Damn man, hope this gets fixes within the next few days. Finally off work and wanted to play some Dragon Age MP.

Live was up and down all day yesterday.

You crack on though. What is it with Xbox owners lying about how perfect Live is?

The DDOS attack pulled MS's pants down quicker than anyone else!

Interesting that you call people liars and then end your post with a lie. PSN went down Xmas Eve. XBL went down Christmas day, and came back Christmas night. My PSN still can't connect (generating Timeout errors every attempt).

My PSN only went down about 40hrs so I was lucky. My mates Xbox was about the same, but both are fine now.

I wouldn't put all my digital eggs in either basket. Both are easily knocked out, but I guess some people are so bothered at what they experienced with one, they think the grass will be greener running to the other.

For me it's not about who gets knocked out, because as the experts tell us, you can't stop an attack. For me it's all about the recovery time. XBL was back up the same day. My PS4 is still offline. But you're right about putting all your eggs in either basket, and that's exactly why I now have both consoles.

People keep saying live is perfect and my Nephew and his mates were getting kicked all day yesterday.

It's not perfect.

Who are these people? List them for us.

No. There's plenty of posts in this thread of people trying to say Live was up within 24 hours with no problems and criticism of Sony for not doing the same when Live is just as flaky.

Just so you know I don't blame MS or Sony for the current connection problems. The attacks will have triggered failsafes at server centres, isps and ancillary providers all over the world.

Big job to switch it all back on.

jeez why are there still people who are still offline? Are they contacting SONY? Are they trying that MTU trick (which seems to work)? Can someone please list all the possible solutions for these people?

Looking at the BF4 site, it seems like the problems are pretty much over. The people who can't sign in, try the MTU trick or reset the internet connection etc. It probably requires a solution from the user side. My guess of course.

I edited my post. Just because Live is currently working for you doesn't mean that is the case for everyone, and same with PSN.

You claimed people said it was perfect. No one is saying that. So perhaps drop the hyperbole. Fact of the matter is that XBL recovered much faster. It still has issues. PSN required a couple days more to finally start coming up and yet still is having issues. I still can't connect to PSN on my PS4, yet I can connect to it on the web store. XBL is better, imo. If you read that and translate it into "XBL is perfect", then you got issues.

MTU settings worked for me instantly. What does that do exactly?

Anyways thanks guys

Reduces packet size. Some people think it works because Sony is purposely blocking packet sizes of a certain size and above due to how the attacks occurred.

Why should we bother with MTU, if the problem is on Sony's side?

It shouldn't have to be from the user side. If 1500 MTU was good before the attack, and it should be because its standard, then if things are actually working correctly people shouldn't have to change it. This is still a Sony issue.

I contacted the Ask Playstation twitter feed. They said it's due to Sony still attempting to bring all PSN facilities back online. Without the MTU change, I get connection timeout errors. With the MTU change I get a message that states I didn't connect in time. I've reset my router, my cable modem, and my PS4 numerous times. Nothing fixes it. I can access the PSN webstore though.

true, and good point. But what if it wasn't on Sony's side, how would you know otherwise (unless you're a networking professional of course). Sometimes when my internet is out my first instinct isn't to call COMCAST to get it working. I check my router, modem, connections, etc. And if all is okay, then I call em. Try any and all of the possible solutions.

Are some people still struggling with PSN?

I was back online around 10pm last night UK and playing with some Yanks no problem, it's been up all day today as well.
