I've never really watched digimon, and I noticed netflix has the original series so...
1: does it hold up at all?
2: sub or dub?

Honestly, I tried watching it recently, and I found the first couple of episodes to be sort of rough---the show doesn't look very good at all, and it's a really slow burn with sort of MOTW episodes. It got bored of it that I sadly didn't get to the Real World segment, which imo I recall is when the show really came into its own.

I'm in the process of rewatching the show (through the sub this time) and I think it holds up nicely. Some of the subtitles are really confusing at some points, though.

Whats everyone's top 2 episodes for the first seasons?

Mine are episode 21 of Adventure:

And episode 23 of 02:

Digimon is really about the relationship and bonds between the children and their parents/siblings, and digmon. Its about character growth. The episodes that focus on those aspects are without a doubt my favourite.

Thats why characters that keep on not growing, and being silly little brats are the worse. Like Yamato.

The 02 trio don't even fall in these categories because they have little to no character. Maybe only Iori.

I'll always love the episode were Agumon and Gabumon go mega for the first time, and I like that episode you listed for 01, too.

Can't remember too much from 02 to be honest. I liked when Veemon and Stingmon DNAed for the first time, and I've always liked Kimeramon, so maybe some of the episodes that it is in.

Its the episode that explores Ken's past, and his start of his redemption towards his parents, Wrommon, and his past self. It also features Ryo, so its can't get any better than that.

Tamers is the GOAT and it had, by far, the best final boss fight IMO. I'm not so sure about a sequel though, they tried that twice (Zero Two and Xros Wars: Hunters) and failed miserably. I just don't trust them to not screw it up.

I also liked episode 21 a lot too. Dub fudged it up though by having a running "joke" with Tai going "WHOA AM I IN A TIME PARADOX TIME TRAVELLING WACKY CRAZY JOKE EVERY THIRTY SECONDS"

The one thing I hope this revival does is get Digimon World 1, 2, and 3 on the ESHOP.

For Movies, it'd be neat to see them give one to Ryo since his plot is based on old Wonderswan games. And you can have cross-over appearances with Adventure, 02, and Tamers.

Mostly faithful though a few odd lines about Jeri during the final arc are changed in a way that makes a few things a bit more unclear then was originally intended iirc nothing major that would ruin your enjoyment of it

The original script never makes any references to Digimon Adventure being a tv show. A digimon anime is only mentioned in one of the movies, so every reference to that is an alteration of the script. I don't think they changed any actual plot points though.

Yeah, a lot of the direct references to Digimon Adventure and 02 (I think at one point the dub namedrops Tai) are added in.

I think this was just to make it more "like" the western world, where the virtual pet and tcg are second-fiddle to the show.

I agree with I-hate-u episodes. I would add another episode from Tamers to make a top 3, but I don't remember anything, even though I enjoyed watching it as a kid. I might start watching it on Netflix this winter break.

So, I've been looking through some Digimon stuff...

I remember people speculating Hackmon was gonna play a big role due to being featured on some merchandise or something alongside the original 8, does that mean we're gonna get those freaking nun Digimon since they're apparently its 'caretakers'?

The first season had to do with survival, and the maturation that comes with that. This season could be a test of that maturation, a sort of an 'after the fairytale ends' type of story. Sounds kind of edgy, but it's kind of in vogue.

That... Actually sounds like it could be really cool. Maybe someone wants to develop their own digital world and it goes haywire leading to another digital world but not anything like the one we know. Maybe the phone game could be interfering with it or something, causing the creatures to get further agitated and maybe even transform into stronger and more terrible beasts.

At the same time, like you said, the original digital world has begun to fall apart becuase of this, and that could be due to the new digital world somehow interferring with it and it's world beginning to take over.

I say keep the main characters as it but make them older (maybe 17's), but make the side-characters have a larger and more defined role since sometimes it felt like they just vanished in the original tamers.

I want this now. Even though I know it will never happen.

I actually had a small interest in making a Fan-fiction Tamers 2, the new protag would have been Henry's younger sister (aged up to like 15-17) with Lopmon, as well as Impmon's two tamers (I was thinking it would've been cool if both of them could biomerge with Impmon and he would have two different final evos...). Obviously the old protags would show up. Was thinking Henry got some D-reaper in him some how and it made him and Terriermon evil and he would have been the main antagonist.

But I suck at writing (and coming up with a good plot...) so nothing ever came of it.

Yup. It will make or break the show I think, depending on how the handle it. Do they carry on with the crests? Do they make something new? As long as they require character development to reach higher evolutions.

Best Tamers episode? I don't won't want to spoil it, because its a pretty easy one to guess and its near the end.

So far we only have a DVD boxset of all the Digimon seasons, but dub-only. Trust me, I've been waiting YEARS for a subbed-uncut set!! Maybe one day... one day...

Japan also has a boxset out of ALL the movies/specials on blu, but also going in the $500 price range >_>

Not too sure. The description in product information says its cell only. Also, its 54800 yen, so about $455, So I exaggerated a little I guess. I thought the conversion rate was $1 to 100 yen exact.

But if I would get anything, it would be this:

All movies in HD from pre-adventure to savers + soundtrack for 25000 yen. The early adventure movies were gorgeous as is. I can't imagine how more pretty they are in 1080p
