Digimon be small now.
The digimon were always small its just the kids were short ass fuck as well.

First off just wanted to say that I'm just now finding out about this and I'm really excited. Digimon was a major part of my childhood and show wise was always better than Pokemon.
I've only watched the 1st four seasons and nothing beyond that besides the movie.

I remember back during Christmas break of 2012 I actually rewatched seasons 1,2,3 and 4 and still enjoyed it.

2nd, I'm surprised at all the hate for season 2. It definitely has its flaws though, especially the dark ocean stuff. That shit was pretty chilling and could have used more exposure.

Also yeah, the Digimon will be smaller now that the kids are older. Only makes sense.

I've brought this up before but the Digimon partners are actually smaller than they should be if you were to give a shit about height continuity. I don't particularly mind though but it does show the liberties taken with Tri character design.

Looking at this and then comparing it to the scans where they have the silhouettes of the digimon as well it seems they've mess around with the continuity of their heights. They've made the Digimon smaller relative their partners compared to this epilogue.

I know we just had it on PSP but I wish we could get a Vita title (or PS4 but lol, not going to happen anyway) of Digimon Adventure. They could do a lot more on the Vita than they could on PSP (anyone who's played it should be able to see how limited the game was).

Or even a Digimon Adventure + 02 game. I know not everyone liked 02 (and even though I liked it, it's disappointing in comparison to what could have been) but I'd enjoy being able to play through the story, using the armour Digis and all. Oh and Stingmon :D.

Oh well.

/random but we don't have much to talk about until we get even more new info on this series.

If you don't have the time, These excellent videos do a pretty good job of actually illustrating just about all the problems of Season 2.

The first video's arguments aren't that great.

He basically argues:

A) That 02 should still feature the original characters as primary leads, despite it being a completely different series (dispensing with the original cast worked wonders for Tamers)
B) That Tai's attempt to force Agumon to be courageous vs Davis (dub 4 lyfe) is somehow the same as Davis summoning courage under duress. Tai was just trying to force a digivolution. Davis was actually in a situation where he needed to /be/ courageous, and when he found it, blam, problem solved.

So it's not exactly off to a great start.

How come only the humans grow but not the Digimon? They're "Children" as well, they should grow.

Watching tsuritama right now. Honestly, the character designs are nothing like persona, and truth be told, these character designs and use of colours would fit digimon like a glove.

This could be cool. I'm looking forward to this now. :3

I haven't watched Tsuritama myself but even from looking at the poster I don't see much resemblance to Persona either.

Why on Earth would you want more of the royal knights after Frontier?

I forget, were the Royal Knights in Frontier much (been a while since I've seen it).

Savers featured the Royal Knights a great deal in the last half of the anime. So yeah, I'm not in a hurry for another Royal Knights storyline.

They only should 2 RKs in Frontier. There is a lot more interesting ones that the series hasn't explored yet.

Like how about a Royal Knight vs Olympos 12 saga?

So, what's the best source for understanding the "lore" of the Digimon franchise overall? I don't mean limited to the show, I mean the lore put forth by the Virtual Pets and such---I tried checking out the Digimon Wiki, but I just get these walls of nonsensical, badly translated text with all these crazy pseudo-symbolism shit. Who are the Demon Lords? Who are the Royal Knights exactly? What's the deal with the Olympus 12? What is Yggdrasil or whatever?

I've been watching Fusion the past few nights and I'm enjoying it. Once again, Beelzemon is good character.

That seems like a show a lot of people jumped on for being different, but I thought the Mecha-Digimon thing seemed like a fun idea. I watched the first few episodes and it seemed acceptable, I guess the biggest issue was it was aimed at the same age-group as the original so the older me didn't really like it too much. But I heard it gets darker as it goes on.

I sort of want to re-watch all the Digimon now to get ready for this---although I tried watching the original Adventure, but got bored with it to be honest. I never got to the real-world arc, where I remember it really picking up.

The lore and everything changes every series/manga/game. Only solid thing is that they can evolve, really. I still don't know if X-Antibodies even goes beyond the cards.

Yeah, I figured as much.

One thing I always wish we would've gotten out of a show was touching upon how Digimon came to be---the TCG and such has these little cool ideas for what programs/viruses Digimon evolved from, that the show never really touched upon outside of a few examples like Milleniumon and the D-Reaper. Like I'd love a Digimon Series where each Digimon had an established reason for existing, and was focused on how they came into being from the result of something manmade.

The good guys fought the Royal Knights again and again for what seemed like ten episodes in a row, making no real progress. It's the worst part of an already bad show.

IIRC, Tamers had them be the result of some government experiment with AI back in the 70s. The rest of the series, though, the Digital World is basically a magical fantasy world that just happens to be in the internet and uses random computer terms.

I got a sinking feeling it's going to be justifying the existing ending more than anything else.

I wouldn't mind that depending on how they go about it. That said, there is new people involved (that weren't involved in the original Adventure 02) so they could easily change it and do a new epilogue.

Who knows? I don't even know if they are aware of fans unhappiness with it in the west let alone how JP fans feel (and if the guys in charge know how they feel).

If they do, they could retcon parts to suit their new vision but it's a "Who knows" sort of deal until someone decides to say something.

My totally wild guess is that the story is going to include a time-travel related in-universe retcon of a lot of 02.

Considering that they look older than they did in 02 (and this isn't just an artstyle thing, the uniforms, TK and Kari are wearing imply they are about the same schooling level Tai and the others were in 02), I don't see this happening.

I'm not saying it's likely to happen, but I don't get the connection? Say that some new villain goes back in time and starts mucking with the past. The original kids and digimon follow him, and stop him, but not in time to prevent him from altering a few key things. They come back to the present, and find everything changed. End arc 1.

Eureka (TV show) did something similar once, to great effect.

Why would they even bother with a plot like that, though?

On this note, they outright said in the first teaser that Tai is 17 in high school. There is 3 year gaps between each series iirc so Kari/TK should be 14 in Middle School, same age/school as Tai + Gang were in, in 02.

Personally, I want to see more human interaction with what's going on in school along with character development (ie Matt and Tai grew as characters with their interactions in the original series).

I'd also like to see more parent-on-digimon interaction as all the parents should be well aware of the Digimon their children have and providing they didn't retcon too much of the ending to another "The gate has closed forever so they don't have their partners at the start of the series" thing.

Said it before but I'll say it again, one of the most mind numbingly stupid things in 02 was Izzys mother going into their room, everyone acting like the digimon are stuffed animals (which includes Patamon and Gatomon which Izzy's parents saw them evolve during the Venom myotismon fight)
and then asking "Where's your friend Tento" as if he had been there for the last 3 years.
(ignore the spoiler, I notice this bit is dub only since I looked back at the same episode in Japanese (Follow the Kaiser's Base, ep 18) and she doesn't say that... unless it's in a different episode that is. Damn dub only lines making me second guess things. The first part is valid though as this picture shows: http://i7.minus.com/iXirLzZuXYyno.png with them acting like stuffed animals >_<.

Izzys parents were smarter/less dense than that. I mean seriously, that annoyed me a lot.

I just hope for no more of that stupidity.

I also realized that this seems like the least of the issues that 02 had and I actually like 02 >_>. There is waay too much space between announcement and info. It gives me too much time to think about this stuff.

I've never really watched digimon, and I noticed netflix has the original series so...
1: does it hold up at all?
2: sub or dub?

imo it holds up. I'd also recommend both the sub and dub. Especially if you're using netflix subs since the subs can be inconsistent from what I've seen (one episode using BelialVamdemon and the other, using the dub name "Malomyotismon" who is an enemy in an episode in the second series). The subs are also not too easy to read imo. The yellow and all.

If you only have time for one, I'd recommend the sub purely for the soundtrack (though the english soundtrack is good as well imo). But watching both and seeing some of the small differences (big differences in 02) is quite fun imo.

Up to you what you do though, if the subs bother you (the colour in particular), go for the dub.

Well they basically are taking western fans into consideration considering that are going back to the 1st digidestined, which is the one that took off in the west in the first place, I wouldnt be surprised if they were planning a western release to come out relatively soon after it airs in japan

Because of the english website, I'm thinking simulcast. The dub though is what I'm wondering. We know there will be one but when is the question.
