Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

Probably. Doesn't really change much, though. Vivienne wouldn't hold a candle next to the Iron Bull.

I didn't really like Iron Bull given how they built up every other Qunari in the series. It was like they played him up as a big funny merc guy to contrast him with how seriously his race had been portrayed when that was what made them interesting. With that said I hardly spoke to him so that's just based upon what I've seen in videos and what not.

Vivienne on the other hand was rad.

actually now that i'm thinking about it

how is the music in bayonetta 2, people who have played bayonetta 2

It's pretty good, nothing that would beat out the rest of the list top 3 I don't think. Main issue is for the battle themes, in Bayo 1 there was a healthy dose of "fly me to the moon" mixed in with Bayonetta's theme but in Bayo 2 it seems like the battle theme for almost every fight is "Tomorrow is mine" and while it's catchy and fun the cover of "Moon River" is amazing and the best song used in a Bayonetta game (which I guess makes it even more hype and special when it does show up).

I'm the complete opposite. I found Vivienne boring even when I did all her dialouge and quest stuff. Like, she was posh and propper and noble and boring. The Iron Bull on the other hand was refreshing. You expect him to be the tough guy and he is, but he's also caring and has a lot of respect for you and his crew. He was funny, had great stories, had a great crew and also explains to you a Qunari saying that means "I will bring myself sexual pleasure later while thinking about this with great respect".

All the music is catchy, but only like one or two tracks are particularly memorable.

The problem is the music is all really conducive to fighting and focusing on the fight and keeping you jazzed but you're never really focusing on it.

Hmm. That's what I was wondering about. I feel like Platinum games all have music that's really good for that exact purpose but, like, outside of Metal Gear Rising's insane metal boss battle music I can't remember most of them.

Unless it's like one or two of the Mad World/Anarchy Reigns tracks that are amazing Japanese Hip-Hop™

I'm really surprised Wolfenstein didn't crack Jeff's list. Did I just imagine multiple times on the podcast over the past few months when he was part of discussions praising it? Meanwhile, the extent of Mordor discussion I heard from him was that he wasn't liking it, but apparently hadn't unlocked the good abilities yet.

Not to say we need to have constant updates through the Bombcast or whatever, it's just weird to see jarring things like that.

Remember when Brad gave 5 stars to Diablo 3, and at the end of the year, it wasn't even on his top 10 and it was never even mentioned during the GotY podcasts?

I don't know. I found myself listening to the Moon River remix for about an hour.

okay yes Persona Q's battle music is some amazing Japanese Hip-Hop™

there are lyrics in it that read, and i quote

Beyond just the stuff that Lotus is rapping on though Persona Q's music is pretty fucking intense. The main menu theme when you're chilling in the school, Dungeon 4's exploration music, it's insane.

Can't go wrong with Persona music, even in spinoffs. Well, I can't say I loved Arenas, but it's okay

I dunno, I found myself looking forward to every cutscene involving Iron Bull shortly after recruiting him. He and his people are interesting, with an irreverent charm that makes me enjoy them a lot.

Vivienne is nice, but she feels like a defanged version of Morrigan from DAO. More than anything, she made me miss Morrigan's artful, honest way of speaking.

Of course, it took me forever to find Vivienne in Skyhold and I didn't bother to do her personal quest, so maybe I'm in the opposite situation from you. :/

Wait, it's keep it DAZZLE? I thought it was "zazzle," as in zazzle shirts.

Nah unlike DA:O Morrigan Vivienne behaves like a real human being.

Now DA:I Morrigan on the other hand. Best character arc BioWare's ever written by a country mile.

He actually really liked it, going by that one podcast in the summer. But he didn't play more than a few hours and by the time he was able to get around to it months later I think he just lost interest.

I remember him really disliking the inconsistent tone and then hating it when stealth was forced in the prison mission.

Mostly because I got to those parts myself and was like "Yeah, I can see the negativity here."

By any chance has anyone done a timestamp for whenever a specific game gets its story spoiled?

Or at the very least a list of games spoiled in each episode.

Alex "I just wanted to throw this on the list and I have no intention of defending it" Navarro is really bumming me out with how easily he buckles to the rest of the crew.

I could barely keep it together when everyone but Dan decided to start throwing shade on Tropical Freeze's soundtrack after dismissing a small sample of tinny, 20 second Youtube clips. What an undeserved dog pile.

For shame.

Just saving all his veto options for the final day. He's just collecting ammo "remember when I let go of ___ on day 1/2/3/4?"

believe.

So what are y'all feeling for GOTY after day 3?

Seems like Mordor taking it is pretty much a given at this point.

Can see advance warfare being way higher than it should be now that Gerstmann's list is up.

Not feeling good that Bayo 2 will make top 5 and might be at the bottom. Should still make the list though.

hmmmm... far cry 4 will be up there too.

mario kart 8 will be there somewhere.

Bayo 2 has been 1st, 3rd and 6th so far, right?

I felt the opposite. Iron Bull being different is exactly what makes him interesting and they do a good job of making that apart of his story. Vivienne is basically every other dickish noble/mage you meet in the game, except a little more fleshed out since she's in your party. Shes not a bad character but def one of my least favorites.

Vivienne is disappointing as a character, I feel. I was pretty excited when I first met her at her party and she had that whole femme fatale large and in charge personality going, but for the rest of the game she seems... I dunno, more just cynical and snarky. I was hoping she'd continue to be commanding and willful throughout the whole game, but she really just settles into "generally condescending" pretty fast.

It's actually one of the major problems with the typical RPG setup - since your character has to be the one making all of the choices, other characters basically always have to defer to you for everything and are really only there for flavor dialogue.

Actually on reflection it's kinda weird that Dangan Ronpa didn't even get a mention for music. Not even for a tinny youtube demolition pile!

I don't really understand why people like him so much. He seems like such a one-note character to me.
Of course he's not as bad as Cullen or that annoying elf lady, whatever her name is, but Cassandra is a way better character in my humble opinion.

im just surprised it somehow made top 3 best stories when only 1 dude played it.

wonder if this means next year people will have playlists ready to sell their best sound track pitch :P

She's still very much opinionated and ambitious regardless of what choices you make.

But what you mentiioned is why Morrigan is the best.

This too. Cassandra is unequivocally great.

The Fall was pretty much the only game the staff felt passionately about, so Patrick being passionate about Danganronpa was all it really took to put it in the Top 3.

Working my way through today's 'cast, and Hearthstone being disqualified from best debut because it's a "spinoff" of World of Warcraft just can't be justified. Seemed like a really heavy-handed and arbitrary decision by Jeff. I haven't played the game all that much, but that was just ridiculous, especially in the light of Mordor winning.
