Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

It's my GOTY.

It certainly seems like a contender. I wish I could play it.

Anyway, I'm going to get around to trying some Shadow of Mordor later since that seems to be the favorite for their GOTY this year. Honestly, I'm expecting Arkham City, but with LOTR stuff.

Brad calling Smash boring whilst continuing to play Destiny and Dota 2 is AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Bayonetta 1 is old and out of mind and some of the crew are new to the series. Not that back to back Bayonetta 2 is tame or anything.

Also, regardless of Bayo 1, the first part of Bayo 2 is pretty fucking good.

For bayonetta 2 I'd have voted for ch5 or 6. The first time you fight lumen sage is where shit really gets real.

And after today I can totally see bayonetta at top 5 goty for them.

so tomorrow's video has to be a big group thing, right? I'm probably just missing something but so far I kind of don't get how any of the SF ones could have taken too long at all to film, except Dan's.

I don't think they ever said it took long to film. The whole thing just took long to edit, and the podcasts obviously took up some time!

I dunno guys, I think Jeff's white board explanation of #RECHAUS was pretty fantastic.

But yeah, Brad's two finales are great too.

My guess is that tomorrow's will be all of them banding together to end the mystery of gameageddon.

It is a ton of great ideas stitched together with some really weak connective tissue.

The game would be much better without the gratuitous camera angles.

Without the over the top nature of Bayonetta as related to sexuality, that game is just Ninja Gaiden.

And no one gives a shit about Ninja Gaiden anymore.

The discussion about NaissanceE made me pick that game up. Sounds super interesting.

That sounds awesome to me.

People don't give a shit about Ninja Gaiden not because it's lacking in tasteless T&A shots (which it also had, but not this extent).

No, people didn't give a shit about Ninja Gaiden 3 and on because the games were bad and were full of awful design decisions.

Let's put it this way.

Devil My Cry 4 has a better combat system than both Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2. It is known, ask GuardianE, he will break it down in EXTREME detail. If given the option of replaying a character action game that's come out over the past 10 years, I'd rather play Bayonetta or Bayonetta 2 over it, because literally everything else about DMC4, it's art, it's music, it's tone, it's attitude, is SEVERELY lacking when compared to Bayonetta.

That being said, I can understand how it's not for everyone. But you cannot have a Bayonetta game without the in your face nature of her sexuality. If you do that, it's a different game entirely. And I think Bayonetta does more for the genre than DMC4, which is a mechanically better game.

And I'm not counting Ninja Gaiden 2 or 3, i'm talking about Ninja Gaiden 1, the one that they continue to rerelease with very little added to it other than new difficulty modes and challenges that stress the superlative combat system, but ad nothing else.

Yeah, agree with you there. Bayo 2 is my favourite character action game of all time, and a lot of that has to do with the style (styyyyyyyyyyyyle) and everything around it.

Are you people? The setting, tone, and everything about cut scenes matter when you choose to put them in a game. And everything about those parts of Bayonetta are fucking disgusting.

everybody has their own line.

I personally draw a pretty big one between lewd/gratuitous and exploitative. Bayo in no way strikes me as exploitative.

Nothing wrong with immature fanservice bullshit.

If anything we need more of that, not less.

Everything is wrong with fanservice.

Let's not get crazy.

Fan service has it's place, but it is best when it has agency and purpose; when it is used to define a character or world in a provocative way. Bayonetta has moments where it does that, and it has just as many moments where it's zoomed in on her crotch for no good reason.

The Barbarian is a character that makes great use of fanservice. That doesn't mean that Dragon's Crown doesn't revel in dumb fanservicy bullshit for no reason.

It's best when it has meaning. But I don't want to write off a game just because it does engage with the idea of pointless T and A here and there.

But as someone said earlier, everyone has a line. Mine is Senran Kagura games. But I do still find the "Life and Hometown" meme pretty funny.

I'll just leave this article here and then leave until this conversation gets decidedly less heated.

Oh well I guess that makes everything okay. I'm really glad Leigh Alexander gave her approval, now I can play this game guilt free!

Was watching them play bayonetta and thought "isn't the fox costume cool". And then they went right up her crotch...fml

It's frankly pretty embarrassing. It bothers me that this is the game we as gamers are putting on a pedestal and saying this is the best gaming has to offer.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyways...

Jazzpunk is stellar. So glad the guys brought it up so much during these awards or I never would have checked it out.
