Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

I'm okay with a game starring an unrealistically proportioned sexy anime woman

It definitely didn't take anything away from the games

but some of those cutscenes where the camera seems to zoom in/out directly from her ass were a little weird

Could anyone give me a time stamp when best moment ended so I could skip that part please? That woud be nice, thanks.

Jared has no respect for the rules. He includes a 2013 game as a 2014 game and pretends a kinect game is a videogame.

Greg Kasavin's list tomorrow is named his "Top 10x3 list", so talk about breaking the rules! Also, Zoe Quinn list tomorrow, which is good to see!

Jeff says he hates Lovely Planet, as if he played more than maybe 5 minutes of it on a live show. Jesus he didn't even get to the part that makes it such an amazing game. He literally played the tutorial levels.

I was actually hoping people would read it and consider the arguments within, since it's not just "Yo I have a vagina and I think this is okay."

But I expected too much, it was my fault.

I did read it, and in no world can I see a zoom in shot of Bayonetta's crotch as "empowering".

Just call it what it is, you enjoy the game for what it is. I would respect that a lot more than trying to twist it into something it is clearly not.

3D World was last year, right?

I'm not crazy, right?

Much in the same way you wish Bayonetta was different, I similarly wish that Heavenly Sword and Enslaved were better.

I mean shit, Lollipop Chainsaw has STYYYYYYYYYYYLE, but that game is a fucking slog to actually play.

I've been holding off on Bayo 2 because I wanted to beat the first game first, but after watching that quick look of it I think I might have to go out and grab it sooner. I think pretty much everything about it looks incredible.

Actually felt like bayonetta 2 was way tamer on the blatant sexy camera angles. Besides the stripping at the beginning most of the sexy shots were transitions between balls crazy action. Even the taunt was tamer.

You aren't the arbiter of every other person's world view, unfortunately. If you want to run for that title, you should find a way to do that, but other people can say they don't view something as exploitative if they don't actually view it as such.

Can you use your witchcraft to tell us everyone who's putting a list out tomorrow?

Only those two and Shawn Allen (ex R*, now making Treachery in ‎Beatdown City) on the schedule so far. There'll be three more I guess, one of those will probably be Stardust.

I'm using the Live Bomb! chrome extension to see this btw.

You should finish the first one first if you want the story to make any sense. (Yes, story is still batshit insane but it makes more sense after you played the first one.)

38 minutes starts the discussion on best local multiplayer.

It says the games he enjoyed most in 2014 (as opposed to favorite/best games of 2014) in the description, haven't been paying enough attention to the lists to notice whether everybody's says that or not.

But yes. It was a November 2013 release.

And don't get me started on Ninja Theory games. We agree that we wish they were better, that's about all I'll say on those games.

I skipped the Best Moments conversation to avoid spoilers, but I'm kind of baffled to see what won watching the video recap. Interested to hear how that happened, heh.

It was. Bayo 2 pulls back on the needless fanservice a LOT (but still retails a lot of needless fanservice).

Oh cool. I like all those people. Especially Zoe, I predict she'll have Smash high on her list.

It's frankly pretty embarrassing. It bothers me that this is the game we as gamers are putting on a pedestal and saying this is the best gaming has to offer.

A game that is at the peak of its genre with a combat system that is mechanically outstanding in many areas. Yeah I feel like it's one of the best games the industry has had to offer so far.

Jeff's Lovely Planet vendetta is heartbreaking.
Because he's right, that game is pretty much just its music.

Depends on how creative you are. Lovely planet was legitimately one of the best experiences I had with a game in 2014 not only because of the soundtract and visuals but the fact that many of the levels were only constrained by your own creativity and execution. You should have a look on youtube at some of the routes people came up with, it's crazy how much the times for each level were pushed within a few weeks of release.

I don't even remember the fanservice in HS. I just wanted that game to be better than it was.

Well, that and TwingTwang. I will always remember TwingTwang.

Just messing, I don't like Ninja Theory games at all either. Their games are lacking in styyyyle. (Particularly DMC) It feels like the same kind "manufactured cool" lameness as Sunset Overdrive.

is this where I drop the facade and reveal I haven't played Lovely Planet

OK I didn't play Lovely Planet

3. Super Smash Bros. (3DS)

We leave our 3DSes charging on our respective bedside nightstands. Sometimes we play Smash instead of having sex.

Oh Jenn Frank, never change.

Huh...I don't know much about this guy, but for the head of Oculus I find it interesting that like none of his games are the kind of games that would benefit from VR

Not good, not bad, just...interesting

E3 this year on the GB podcast, listening to him have the chance to discuss Smash in a safe environment is like watching/hearing a kid open the door to a candy store.

Also Lovely Planet was great, a Drew/Dan QL and it was on sale for like $3 a few months ago.

I think Enslaved has TONS of STYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYLE! Literally, that game is a masterclass in how to mo-cap actors to elicit emotion without words, it's top of it's game on that.

But HOLY FUCK is that game not fun to play.

Watching that Bayonetta 2 recap makes me wanna go back and play it again. It was great that they somehow happened to be playing with the Starfox costume so we could see the crew's reaction to the jets being replaced with Arwings, which they didn't seem to know about. Maybe Jason set that up on purpose, as he looked pretty good at it, despite the Silver medals. :)

That sequence winning "best moment" is kinda weird, though. It's pretty par for the course for Bayonetta. I personally would've nominated
the part where you go back to Vigrid from Bayo 1 and fight alongside Bayonetta's mom
. That section was really neat, especially if you were a fan of Bayonetta 1.

Jeff's segment wasn't as outrageous as I thought it would be, but I like how it sort of brought back his Nintendownload Express persona and sort of addressed the constant queries of him getting into game development. Could you imagine the world in which Jeff Gerstmann is the "father of video games"? That clown game looked an awful lot like Robotron...

Also, I obviously can't post in this thread without mentioning Danganronpa, so I'm gonna talk about the Danganronpa moment that Patrick "should" have nominated for Best Moment: [MAJOR SPOILERS FOR DANGANRONPA 2]
The part where you find out everyone, including yourself, is evil.
