really surprised how the local multiplayer category turned out. MK8 or Smash would be the obvious choices. (probably smash deserves it for 8 player support)

It's Giant Bomb we're talking about here ;)

All he has to do is fight from the stance that it's the best playing shooter of the year. From a pure mechanics and production standpoint it's worthy of the list, and Jeff has said he appreciates it on that level.

Jeff has acknowledged on numerous occasions that the gunplay in Destiny is great but the game surrounding it is pure garbage. Even Brad has agreed with him on this point and will be enough to see it not make the top 10

Finishing up the Day 3 show. Man, Jeff pretty much actively dislikes all things Nintendo, huh? It's surprising considering how warmly he recalls playing games of the NES and SNES era. His refusal to recommend the Wii U was surprising.

Maybe it's the TWENTY FIVE HOURS OF DESTINY CONTENT on Giant Bomb that's clouding my mind, but I have assumed it would be in their top ten since the game was out. I can't really picture them leaving it off entirely when somebody so clearly has it as his top game of the year.

But the game is bad tho.

He's just tired of the classic Nintendo franchises, for the most part. Notice how hyped he was for Splatoon in that segment.

It's Brads number 1 2014 game, and he managed it sneak it away from winning most disappointing despite Jeff's massive rant. The year wasn't so good that a top 10 spot is really tight, I definitely think it will be there.
What else is going to be in the top 10, Nintendo games???

No its dota 2 because bread stinks.

hmmm do they record the video stuff AFTER goty podcasts?

Also I can't be the only one who confuses caviar with calamari all the time :(

It was his #2 game....but anyway, yes there will be Nintendo games there and a couple at that.
Just from their discussions so far and the top 10's revealed, I think the top 10 will be made up from these games

Bayonetta 2
Shadow of Mordor
Wolfenstein
Shovel Knight
Luftrausers
Smash Bros
South Park
Far Cry 4
Cod: AW
Sunset Overdrive

Why was the frame rate for four-player Mario Kart 8 called terrible on today's podcast? Doesn't it run at 30fps with four players?

Regarding dota that's why I put 2014

I think Brad can make a reasonable case for Destiny against the games that will be towards the bottom of the list (for example Smash, Luftrausers, Sunset Overdrive, Wolfenstein on that list) that could sway the room. Not saying he's right but not everyone loves those 10, and no one likes the bottom few as much as Brad likes Destiny.

Here's my prediction for the final GOTY results:

-Destiny doesn't make it into the top 10 no fucking way, Brad would have to pull some type of Jedi mind trick to make that happen.

-Shadow of Mordor wins GOTY with Bayo 2 a close second.

-Jeff tries to make a case for COD:AW for GOTY but fails.

If Mario Kart ran entirely at 30 fps, this wouldn't be coming up. It's being punished for running at 60 fps in most modes and at the same frame rate as nearly every other modern game some of the time. If Mario Kart 3/4 player "runs like shit," then nearly every game they're championing runs like shit, too.

In the Quick Look it ran like crap with only 2 players.

It runs at 60 with two people, so I find that difficult to believe.

Dan needs to give the rest of the gang some acting lessons.

I was hoping for more from Jeff's segment, it was the weakest of the bunch, I didn't really find any of the game pitches to be very funny. I wanted to see hunked out Jeff slingin' mad Surge on the streets to make money to continue to feed his Epic Alberto Del Rio card.

Brad already pulled the mind trick once by convincing everyone that Watch Dogs was most disappointing. The way he so easily turned the tide the second he started to defend Destiny shows what a force he is. Jeff even ended the segment by saying he was sure it was going to be Destiny, but of course that's not what happened.

Watch Dogs had more momentum behind it, which I felt Vinny actually started. I went into the category thinking Destiny was the obvious choice (for Giant Bomb), but I was won over.

Yeah, I have no idea what Alex was on about. Its a little jarring to go from 60 to 30, but to say its "terrible" and "unplayable" is ridiculous.

Yeah wtf, I did not understand this. That's pretty standard, right?

No kidding! I literally spent 3 evenings over Christmas break playing 4-player Mario Kart 8 on a 55" tv and we all had a blast. It ran smooth as silk too, so I have no idea where this nonsense is coming from.

I thought the jeff segment started out weak but got a lot better when he started drawing out his pitches. Made me nostalgic for drawing out game ideas on notebook paper as a kid

I mean this is Giant Bomb, so Nintendo-created IPs are going to get snubbed.

Haha wow Jeff's arguments against Smash

"Oh man yeah check out this cool chaotic mess and i guess you could get good at it but... why"

a criticism so general you could apply it to pretty much any game ever. Oh, caustic jeff.

And Jeff was totally talking about how people that play smash seriously are weirdos and its meant to be played chaotic.

I totally related with him, though. Something about Smash just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, and I think the chaotic aspect is part of that. It just feels so incredibly random and pointless. I'm a big Nintendo fan, but I'm totally with Brad and Jeff when it comes to the Smash franchise. Not entertaining in the slightest.

Honestly, I wish I could enjoy it, but it's just not for me.

His refusal to recommend the Wii U was surprising.

Not at all. It's absolutely worth buying *only* if you are interested in "those Nintendo games." Jeff is pretty tepid on their modern stuff, so it makes sense that he wouldn't recommend it. This is a man who listed the latest Call of Duty as his best game of the year. That should tell you something about where his tastes lie when it comes to modern games.
