Giant Bomb GOTY 2014 - Destiny Has Brought Us Here

Trying not to read anything here since I just started the podcast but going by Alex's twitter Patrick is leaving?! Man I am super bummed, he has been a great GB member. Will be sorely missed.

Oh man, Alex's twitter made me think something way worse happened to Scoops.

He'll be okay. I'm interested to see what he gets into in the future.

No he is in a Black Mirror hole.

edit: ah shit, he is really leaving?

It makes sense if he wasn't going to have anyone else then being by himself far away from everyone writing articles wasn't working. Too bad because he's great with the main cast, but I guess he can't move back

They probably wouldn't be able to get him long enough to film his own entire segment but a
Troy Baker
"life after video games" thing would have been pretty awesome.

DAMN DS2 isn't even nominated I didn't think that game was that bad

EDIT: they apparently forgot about it and put it on the list around an 1hr 46 min in.

Been enjoying the GOTY podcasts, but I REALLY hope they rethink the order of the categories in the podcasts next year.
If you have categories like best story, best character, best moment etc and you KNOW there will be lots of spoilers, why not put those categories at the end of every podcast? Now I'm forced to skip around and hope I don't end up being spoiled while trying to find the starting point for the following category. :/

It made its way onto the list of nominees for Most Disappointing, didn't it?

What are you talking about? It did not make it on the list, and you also said "Souls" which encompasses Demon Souls and DS1, games they played extensively for Premium features. They were disappointed with DS2 but so were a lot of Souls fans.

I distinctly remember Dark Souls 2 being discussed during Most Disappointing Game.

Patrick brought it up and said he was really disappointed with it and it didn't hold a candle to Dark Souls. I don't know if Brad ever went back to play it on PC, and Vinny kind of liked it.

Even if it had been discussed, that does not take away from the fact that 3 members of Giant Bomb love the Souls series, something you stated isn't true.
Well, I recently listened to the 2009 awards podcasts and Demons' Souls was tossed pretty quickly from the Best PS3 Game category, but it looks like I'm wrong.

Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors were good games.

Just putting that out there.

Outside of that, everything they said about Sonic was correct and it's really indicative of Sega's japanese arm not knowing what it's doing when it comes to game creation in this new modern era of video games.

I can't get the site to load but that best game, I still don't feel Shadow of Mordor. After all the hype around it I picked it up and felt it was just an ok open world across the board. It did some things well and some things bad but the main attraction; the Nemesis system, felt so hollow after you see its just a repetitive cycle. I didn't really enjoy playing enemies off each other as it just seemed like busy work with no real payoff. I never got hooked by the game and kind of forced myself to play it and finally beat it after 3 or 4 weeks and never felt the need to go back to it. The Nemesis system is very interesting but the novelty of it being fresh wasn't enough to make up for its repetition for me. I definitely would like to see the idea used to greater effect though. All in all Shadow of Mordor didn't even make my top 10 list and I felt even my 10 ten this year was a bunch of mostly mediocre games.

It's in Vinny's Top 10. Proving once again, Vinny is the best of them.

I'd put it at the top of my most disappointing games of the year.

I'd also probably put it in the top ten.

This year sucked.
I hear this a lot about Dark Souls 2.

"It's so disappointing and wildly inferior to Dark Souls, but it's also one of the best games of the year."
