Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

I wonder what the reactions would be if Halo 5 added wall running.

Would be cool, its not going to happen this late in development though.

They would have to come up with a mcguvin that explains why they can, then develop that mechanic thoroughly till it felt good to use, and then develop geometry around that.

Weird. It just happened again but the other way around. I got +88. Is that the system just correcting itself?

Awesome new medal: Airborne Snapshot

Also, hallelujah the sniper headshot medal is back. Although it's pretty plain and boring, should have stuck with something similar to the previous games (usually a gold five pointed star with crosshairs in the middle). It's one of the more rewarding medals you can get so it should stand out.
When you get enough points to rank up, it'll say you got a ridiculous amount but you really only got 1-20. Same for deranking.

Apparently it's a glitch that shows itself when you are on the border of one rank to the next. It can go either way.

Another issue I've been having with this game is that I keep accidentally activating ground pound when I mean to crouch jump. It's a real pain in the ass, especially because I like to crouch in the air sometimes during a BR battle. Stopping in mid air to do a ground pound means instant death in that situation.

Ground pound several interferes with crouch jumping to the point where I end up clambering instead 90% of the time. This is a real problem. Maybe it's just my control scheme (bumper jumper) but having crouch on the left thumb stick is pretty standard for Halo...

One major gameplay mechanic I wish they'd change is the Grenades launching you into the air and out of cover for a quick headshot. So annoying. You can be behind cover and popping in and out popping off shots until a frag grenade comes in and launches you out of cover... then you're dead. I really do hate that.

Maybe I'm not understanding, but what are the advantages to using a crouch-jump instead of the normal clamber in a case like that?

I do too. I got propelled into an enemies fist during one of my first matches. :/

You don't lose your ability to shoot.
The lack of crouch jump and Gandhi hop is really irritating. I hope it gets fixed for release.

I agree. It becomes a game of random grenades at times. Also they need to change it to one grenade at spawn.

Gandhi hopping is the only thing that will make it in. No point in crouch jumping when the jumps in the game are all built at clamber height.

I prefer the launch because it gets people out of tight cover and spawn trap locations, plus if you are getting hit by grenades you are not using your thrusters efficiently.

You can use Thrusters, but it will still launch you with a direct blast. It is pretty easy to get people out of cover or spawn trap locations without the need for a grenade launching them into the open.

I have about as much disdain for Grenade launching as I did for Gears of War 2 Smoke Grenade rag-dolling.

My biggest gripe with clamber is that hitting Y to change weapon during the animation doesn't buffer a weapon switch, e.g. it feels a little clunky right at the start of Truth when sprinting, jumping, clambering, switching to pistol and swapping for the DMR. I end up switching to pistol in advance which seems off.

That's not going to happen. Clambering into position has a trade-off and you wouldn't be able to crouch-jump to clamber-height anyway.

Josh Holmes already said the Gandhi Hop is in the full game, and that GP will be activated differently.

Also, next week is AR primary/BR secondary, and it sounds like Truth and Empire will be back in the mix (though that part was unclear).

Huh, I totally thought it was going to be DMR starts, guess that was a rumor.

I thought week 3 was DMR? :(

Loathe the BR in this game compared to the single shot offerings.

Gear of War 2's smoke grenades were indeed an atrocity, but grenade launching in this game really only has that staggering affect when it lands right under neath your ass. Its effect lessens the further away from the in ital blast. I'm about to start a game and try to analyse the situation closer.

Alright game ended and I took a closer look at the grenade blast dynamics. I really don't see the issue here. When I'm boosting away from an exploding grenade it actually helps launch me in the direction that I was going anyway. Also there was a moment on eden where the sniper was holding top walkway, I banked a grenade onto his feet launching him into the air above his cover allowing for quick headshot. If he had listened to the dink noise of the grenade then he would have been fine.

I've seen people attempt it. Unfortunately they were on my team.

Ground pound is pretty hilarious when you get the hang of it. We had a match that devolved into both teams strictly going for ground pound kills on Eden. Everyone would go to the catwalk and shoot down to mid. The sound was ridiculous hearing it over and over. Probly 1 in 10 attempts actually landed for a kill lol.

Im facing this stupid thing I dont know if its a problem or because the game is in beta

Every time I record a clip it doesn't pop in my activity feed nor can share it

So how do you guys actually share your clips of the beta here?

Crossposting from HaloGAF:

HaloGAF Halo 5 Beta Montage.

Okay, so I'm going to give this a go.

If you want in, either post your clips here for my attention (I lurk and read every post, every day, because I'm very sad like that) or perhaps more sensibly, PM me.

Format of your post/PM:

Please include your Gamertag

Clip description (Example: Double kill noscope) and then the link (use Xboxclips.com is probably the easiest way)

If you have what I would describe as a blooper clip (i.e something funny rather than skilled gameplay) send them too - if there's enough, I'll do a two part montage.

I'll collect clips from everyone right up until the end of the beta, then get straight to work.

:D

Also, feel free to suggest a good name for the thing.

AR was NEVER a used weapon in Halo. Not until 343 decided to make it damage like a heavy machine gun.

Anyways, Pistol is always the best secondary.

Think about what you're saying, though. Why in the world would you want a weapon that nobody uses to be a part of the sandbox? What's the point of even having it, then?

Ummm I can say that about the needler and other weapons too......

Yet, you cant just put 5/6 weapons in a shooter game.. Yeah?

There's a difference between low-yield utility and completely unusable. There's nothing inherently wrong with having weaker weapons more commonly found throughout the map or for the player to spawn with, but to say a weapon has absolutely no use is pretty paradoxical. Even the Needler has its role as a level-ground infantry killer and overshield counter.

Your issues being???

Blasphemy. I love it, grenade strength aside.

I don't really like Elimination style to begin with, but the style of the base game I don't think works well with it regardless. The complexity of the maps, and the mobility options available means cat-and-mouse can take a really long time since encounters can end in disengagement so often. Tension turns to zzzZzzzz

The biggest thing for me is having such a weird damage structure compared to the regular game. It seems completely pointless to me. SWAT at least plays on a known mechanic (you have no shields, so headshots will kill you), and even Paintball in Halo 4 made more sense (literally anything can kill you). The base gameplay in SWAT at least feels refreshingly different, this just feels like changing some rules because ?????

The BR as a map pickup, one per side, is also extremely stupid, since the player that gets it is immediately far more dangerous than any other. That combined with the random positioning of your spawn lane means that sometimes you can get the BR and sometimes not, and you are at the mercy of your teammates and a random number generator to get it. Either give everyone one, or take it off.

Damn you are really fighting the servers selection issues ;)

Hell yeah. Everyone should be asking for it as well. Alot of people are moaning about the lag (even US players), but the conversation ends there. Its disappointing. I wonder just how many people have played titanfall? The datacenter selection is awesome

Halo 5 is amazing on home turf though... Truely!

Anyway, it's going to be a long 10 months until the full game gets released!

I got what you mean. But what I really meant is there's a lot of un-used weapons that never got used in Halo since 2001 and that doesnt mean you Over-Power them so people uses them.

every man for himself isn't really a skill. Halo is about Red v Blue. Team shooting.

Believe me, I know whats Halo since 2001.

Whats not a skill? Learning what to do in 1 vs 2 and actually beat them is called skill

When its a team mode of course every man for himself isn't Halo, but there's a mode that says every man for himself

You wanna tell me that one cant simply gain skill while playing in that mode? I am so sorry but thats rubbish.

Gaining skill isn't only gained from Team-play, at the end skill is individual.

The real question is: Where's the skill in Team Shooting?

I played a ton of competitive Halo during Halo 3 and touched on it in Reach. You can throw a team together full of great individual players and they'll do extremely well but it's the teamwork that sets the great teams apart.

And nobody disagreed on that as its not what we're talking about.
