Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Just played a match.
It's not bad but it's not exactly great either.
Better than 4 from what I have played. The announcement of respawns was really annoying. Basically forces the battles to take place in the same areas rather than all over the map like other halo games when people would do their rounds while waiting for respawns. Also the chatter needs to go. I don't need to hear every single thing my team mate is doing. If they really take the feedback to heart though should be a good MP game though for Xbox One MP. Speed is a lot faster but I just have to get used to it so I don't mind that. Same with the control layout. Too much Halo 2 still has me off when things change.

Stick with it. First few games I played, I got my ass handed to me, and I wasn't sure I liked the faster gameplay and weapons. But then something clicked. I absolutely love it now. Weapons are great, especially the Assault rifle. I was never a big fan of sprint either, and I don't mind it in 5 at all. The game is fast, furious, and most importantly fun. By far the most fun I'e had in Halo multiplayer since 2.
 
So it's past 20:00 in Europe right now and it shows, seems like the game kicks into 'Murica mode' where it takes up to 6/7 bursts to down someone while they will consistently 4 shot your ass (lol bleedthrough every single time). Fun fact is, every time I am on those connections my aim feels loose as all hell, as if there's absolutely no stickyness to aiming and I will constantly overshoot.
 
Thats what happens when you have an open sightlines map with BR starts. Just a bad combo. The map would play so much better with AR/Magnum starts.
It wouldn't work at all. You would just spawn and die almost instantly when the other team gets map control with no way to take it back.
 
Yeah a lot of my games are close. And then I look at my teammates' scores. The other side are all about 1.0 each, and then there's me at 2.0 and maybe one other at 1.5, while our other two are like 0.3 and 0.4. If those guys were doing their job it wouldn't have even been close.

One would think those players will sink to the bottom eventually because they aren't helping anyone. They will eventually get ranked with others in their range.
 
No way. Now that KDA is the main rating. Plus what do you even mean K/D whoring? You mean getting kills? Like you're supposed to?
I mean stuff like leaving your position to pickup Rockets when other teammate is already there. KDA will never work for ranking systems.
 
One team has a dude go 20-3, and one team has a 3-13 player. Balanced.

And where are the RED levels? Every level is either blue or blue players blend in.

But here if we party up we have to try because its a close game.
 
This game is too much of a lag fest to enjoy. Too many games are on USA servers and it takes too long finding EU servers. Back to Fifa for me. Shame, it's a solid game, just awful match making.

I think the lower TTK, restricrted shield regen and higher overall speed of the game have made it much more difficult to stay alive for long periods. Used to be that if you played smart, you could string together a bunch of kills and survive firefights, run away and recharge your shields and stay alive for quite a while.

Now I'm finding that surviving a 1v1 fight usually ends up in me dieing anyway, teammates can get to the site of the battle so fast now and your shields don't recharge as quickly as previous Halos. Also seems like grenade can be thrown much farther and are more "bouncey". All of this feels like it adds to an increased number of deaths, which probably evens things out a little more.

I gotta say I like it more. If you set up shop in an area in previous Halos you could really dominate with your shields recharging quickly and whatnot.
 
Not a big fan of Eden. Probably my least favorite of the maps so far.

What don't you like about it? I feel it's the strongest map out of the 4 we've had. It has a ton of routes to get to wherever you want to go. Blue side goes a little underused, but I feel the weak sword is the reason for that. It's also a dynamic map with the generator's and outside cover that can be shot, which is missing from the other 3 maps.

I really like that aspect. First time I encountered it I thought it was timed. lol
 
No I couldn't, if they are in a party of 4. Plus it shouldn't be a dice roll whether I get to play with decent players so I can rank up. It should be based on your KDA mainly (say 60% at least) and then on W/L. That is skill based.

We've seen what happens when it is based on individual performance. Reach. I think everyone agrees that thing was complete garbage in that games were all about the individual and no longer the team. It is a real world example of how that fails.

I quit Reach pretty fast, but the ranking I experienced in Reach was all about EXP. Just grind grind grind. The number ranked stuff I rarely played so I can't really speak to that.

10 hours of AR Magnum starts and that didnt happen once. Both the initial maps had decent spawning and long range options available close by the spawn points. Same should work on the new maps.

To avoid a problem that doesnt exist you live with a problem that does. Getting pinged constantly from long range isnt a lot of fun.

I want a measurement of TTK.

I think its at a good spot in H5. And I don't think I'm dieing more. Thrust + sprint is just too good at getting away. Shields recharge pretty fast too. As long as you always have a piece of cover near you you should be good. I think most of my deaths are due to grenades, just getting outplayed.... and when I play a team/people worse then me I tend to play more aggresive in hope of getting those BIG PLAYS and reversals and shit.

Oh man, this is classic. These teams, straight out the ass, I swear.

RE: Getting pinged from long distance: Ping them back and flank. I'm convinced the game changes when you play at a higher level or something. It was super frustrating not being able to find a DMR/BR last week when the enemy was in the power positions/with snipes. Way less fun.
 
Quarter of a shield? One shot, no problem. Oh boy, this game on a US server.

Its a joke. I was getting 3 shotted on US servers all day yesterday. The gods finally smiled and put me on EU servers, and it was awesome!

Tonight I got an EU server until 22.00, then it booted us, and the next game was in the US!!

Such a shame to ruin such a superb game with 343s touch of matchmaking magic. I love this game. But if there is no option to choose the datacenter or region where we play in the full game, then they can stick it! All my mates who also love the beta feel the same.

Come on 343, don't let us down! Have a quick game of titanfall to see how it should be done.
 
So is matchmaking going to be fucked for the whole duration of the beta? Or is this something they stated they may try and fix whilst its live?

Because finding a game with my friend is a pain in the ass so we barely even bother. It usually throws us into a 4v3 in the lobby then we have to back out using the party glitch and make sure we get into the fire team probably again. It's just a huge pain.

this euro bitching is getting annoying.

There needs to be a prompt during intermission with like 10 seconds left you have to accept otherwise you get dropped before searching.

this. the AFK people obviously started the search but left. why? because the searches take so long at times that people walk away and do something else. theres a reason why theres so many AFK players and thats is.
 
I feel bad for you, honestly. I am sorry you haven't had any luck with it. The abundance of close competive matches I have enjoyed so far are one of the reasons I can't get enough of this game. I hope we get a sense of how well this worked overall in a post mortem from 343.

All I've gotten are close competitive matches. The only times I didn't was probably due to the presence of players who hadn't completed their qualification matches being in my fire team. Regardless, it would help if they shed a little light on the system which they will no doubt do. We're just gonna have to wait.

The last couple pages turned into a lot of people overestimating their skill. The people you play against experience the same frustrations as you.

Um, not if they're in America and I'm in Australia they're not.

Yeah, it's not true if you get a server that is really far away and some of the people you get matched up against are much closer. They will have a significant advantage over you. Even being on the East Coast of the U.S., I get plenty of games that are on servers that are obviously very far away and if two or three people on the other team are much closer to the server then they exhibit a clear advantage.
