Hopefully there's some news at the Arrow/Flash panel today
I hope so. Some casting info would be fantastic, along with when we can expect the show to finally start airing.
Today was CW day. CBS day is tomorrow.
I'm aware, was just hoping that with all the shared executives and Arrow/Flash combined panel they would drop somethingToday was CW day. CBS day is tomorrow.
Question: Anything you can say about Supergirl and what the tone of that show is and also if were going to hear about casting soon?
Greg Berlanti: I hope youre going to hear about casting soon or were not going to be able to make the pilot! I would say, tonally closer to Flash than Arrow. Thats probably the best way to say it.
Question: Do you mean it'll be more romantic?
Berlanti: Well the nature of the character is a bit, and who we have in her life and who were surrounding her with. Also, tonally, I thought of those kind of characters as [strongly] DC Universe and Im sure Geoff [Johns] would agree. And they both died in Crisis of Infinite Earths! So theyre similar.
Question: Is there crossover potential for Supergirl with Arrow or The Flash?
Berlanti: So much has to go right for us to be able to make a great show. Again, I think of myself as like if I were watching them, I would want to see that. But we have to get so many things right to make a good show and so much of it is luck, unfortunately.
Question: People have been clamoring to see a female superhero have her own project. Can you talk about how youre approaching the idea of a female in the superhero world?
Berlanti: That was really important to all of us when we set out on working on it and it was really important to DC and it was really important to the women Im working on the show with and the women that work in the studio and the women that work at the network. In a lot of ways, Im surrounded by more women on the project that could answer that question better.
Question: Are you looking at things like what didnt work in the Wonder Woman pilot?
Berlanti: I think its more, for us, always more learning from our own mistakes and our own successes. So a show like Arrow and Flash, without stuff I learned on Eli Stone and No Ordinary Family probably wouldnt exist in terms of visual effects or stunts or things like that. And storywise, what we learn on these shows, a thing that we always learn is just how important casting is. If youre right on the money and you have the kind of actors we have on these shows, it just makes you look so much better.
Question: Hows the casting process coming? What are the challenges?
Berlanti: As with all these things, theres only one person, right? Thats the thing. I cant imagine someone other than a lot of our actors playing these roles so I feel like youre always just looking for whos that person.
I hope they do the training scene with Kara.
Ollie: We're here to train.
Kara: This is a waste of time. There's nothing you can teach me.
Barry: I wouldn't be so sure.
Ollie: Here's the exercise. I'm going to shoot you with an arrow.
Kara: Yeah okay.
*Ollie shoots Kara, who heat visions the arrow to dust*
Kara: See? Waste of time.
Barry: Wait for it...![]()
*hidden crossbows shoot Kara. The arrows break when they hit her skin.*
Barry:![]()
Ollie:![]()
Kara: So when does the lesson start?![]()
Is this show really far away?
Non-answer. It seems like he's alluding to schedules or something but it's so vague even that takes interpretation.
I would say, tonally closer to Flash than Arrow. Thats probably the best way to say it.
That's a pretty clear answer and it pleases me greatly.
So Power Girl's not real then?![]()
How does one do a Supergirl series without Superman somewhere in the background?
I was referring to the biggest question asked there.. which is cross-over potential.
First, since Supergirl is on CBS, you can definitely expect the show to be a crime procedural. Yet Tassler emphasized the show will have serialized elements as well. There will be [crime] cases, but what [executive producers] Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti pitched was a real series arc for her, she said. The beauty of it is now with shows like Good Wife and Madam Secretary, you can have serialized story elements woven into a case of the week. Shes a crime solver, so shes going to have to solve a crime. Shes going to get a bad guy.
Tassler described the CBS version of the DC Comics icon as a very strong, independent young woman. Shes coming into her own. Shes dealing with family issues. Shes dealing with work issues. Its a female empowerment story. If you look at the strong female characters we have on the air, it really is resonant of that Were big feminists. Its her intellect, its her skill, its her smarts. Its all of those elements. Its not just her strength, which she does have.
CBS has been searching for the perfect actress for several weeks and sources say the network is leaning toward a lesser-known performer for the role. Tassler emphasized the actress has to carry the series. Shes got to be an every woman, she said. Shes got to be specific. Shes got to be a terrific actor. I think back to having had the good fortune of being at Warner Bros. when we were doing Lois & Clark, the chemistry between Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher was really wonderful. So I think in this case, its looking for someone who embodies both the freshness and the exuberance of being a young woman in todays challenging climate and being someone who can carry this kind of series on her shoulders. Its a big, big show.
Though theres no actress announced yet, CBS has a costume design ready to go one that Tassler was most definitely excited about. We have seen the costume, she said. Awesome costume. Tassler added that the costume was being made by Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also did the costumes for Arrow and The Flash.
And speaking of which, reporters also wanted to know what made the young-ish super-powered character a good fit for CBS especially when sister-network The CW has made youthful DC heroes a major part of its brand. I think were watching an evolution with regard to the way that superhero characters are portrayed, Tassler said. Theres a humanity. Theyre flawed. Theres a relatability. For our network right now, what we did respond to was the characters humanity, the other characters in the show as well the story trajectory and the characters arc and growth. These are all things that made her just imminently relatable, and made the story exciting. We made a decision based on the pitch that we heard.
Earlier during the press tour, The CWs president Mark Pedowitz was asked if he was dismayed that CBS landed the big title instead of his own network. Not surprisingly, the executive said he was fine with it. Im happy for [Warner Bros.] that they were able to sell it to CBS. We were aware of it. We knew about it You dont want to become just one thing to everybody. So its good to have some diversity, and Im very happy that they sold it to another network.
Pedowitz added that he wouldnt rule out the possibility of a crossover between his DC titles like Arrow and The Flash.

Why not just debut the suit now? Give us something, even if it's just a drawing of what it looks like.
Same here. Was looking forward to it.......Probably waiting to have someone to wear it first. Sorta surprised a casting announcement isn't going to be made today, honestly.
Thats a different network so I think were going to keep Supergirl to ourself right now.
So one article says not to rule out crossovers. The next says it ain't happening.
?
Lobo sucks, though.

CW is open to the idea, CBS president is not.
Nina Tassler says she just wants it to stand on its own for now instead of worrying about tying it into two other showsAnd reading GAF only, I were of the impression Supergirl were gonna cross over for sure. Everyone just seemed so sure..

As long as it's for sure the same universe, I can wait for a cross over.
