. There's actually people out there who -hate- Back To the Future.'

Smart people. Terrible movies lol

Also, this title makes my soul burn slow.

At least I didn't get hit with the double whammy of justin winning something the same week this fraud won canada cup.

Also, I made 65k in 9 months as a QA consultant a few years ago when I was halfway through my an BA in History. Y'all need to get out of whatever hellhole your living in and move to Vancouver, asap.

Jobs for the taking.

KidASeven or anyone that speaks Japanese can you confirm this? I saw it posted in the EH comment section(I know I know, give me a break here guys).

http://chigesoku2.doorblog.jp/archives/42832646.html

The dude who posted the link says that Topanga World League 2 is confirmed for April of this year and the line up is

Daigo
Sakonoko
Momochi
Infiltration
Xian
Xhaohai
Louffy
Bonchan or Kazunoko or Nemo
SnakeEyes or Smug

Plenty of Japanese in there already I'd like to see Snake or Smug get that 8th spot, but Smug more so to be honest. I don't think Smug stands a good chance of winning, but I want to see him get a chance to compete with the best and I think his character will provide for some really entertaining matches. Well that's if this is all true.

The link has pictures of Xiao Hai's schedule and Topanga World League is one of the events he will be attending in April.

I don't think there is a list of players though besides speculation. Last year's had 8 players. Daigo, Sako, and Momochi have to be locks to be in. Obviously Xiaohai is a lock due to his schedule being the source. I'm guessing Luffy would be invited because he won Evo. That leaves 3 spots. I know jp stream monsters have taken notice of Smug and Snake Eyez due to their popularity in the US fgc, but one of those is probably the likely US player.

I always liked your Boss rage videos , they have the appropriate amount of shouting and screaming in frustration that those games ought to give a normal person. Also helps to psych yourself up for the challange.

Btw, it seems like Daigo's latest manga chapter implied that he's going to release another manga, but of his SF2 days, circa 1994.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Kumite in Tennessee XV and was a part of my Dead or Alive pools and brackets. Congrats to those who made it to Top 8. Had to watch Top 8 Tekken from the car going 90MPH on the highway. (Took me 18 hours to get home. X( )

Kumite!

Max'd be the first to tell you his career isn't from being a fighting game player, its from being a relatable/entertaining personality with an insane work ethic.

Given how people are sponsored, there's more crossover between youtube celebrity and top player than people would like to admit. Gootecks fell into youtube after his attempt at pro didn't work out for him.

And I don't think Max's twitch stream is much different than...the Justin Wong nation.

Having a vision not going to pay the bills. Just ask my old friends sharing their mixed tape. You are beholden to a game that waxes and wanes in popularity. Remember UMvC3?

He is a youtube creator / creative production guy sharing his hobby.

And that makes it a "viable career choice"? How is he immune to the earlier statements in this very post?

They're the same. They just share their hobby in a different way.

Or rather, they share their hobby in incredibly similar ways. They just get their money from different sources.

Max's fighting game skill won't decide how much he takes home every tournament, its instead how entertaining and most importantly, how consistent he creates new content. His career is a content creator; whether it about about Benny or Hype trailer or Game/Character breakdowns or Epic Boss Battles (probably the only content my wife will watch with me besides Benny) or Lets play type content. He is entertainment/reason to watch something vs the actual game played.

When I talk about a career in fighting games is generating income based on tournament winnings and sponsors. Skill in fighting games will only carry you so far and you are at the mercy of the actual popularity of the game vs your own popularity. ChrisG, an incredible talent doesn't have the draw outside of the game like a Yipes does.

So I guess its tournament winnings vs youtube/twitch subscription money.

Its alright to dream, but its also good to get a dose of reality of people's Hoop Dreams.

The main difference is reliability. And that's even accounting for the fact that the youtube gig is fairly shaky. No matter how good of a fighting game player you are, you rely on a sponsorship for your income. Even the absolute best can't rely on winning big tournaments consistently. And unless your a name like Daigo or Justin, you can't assume that a sponsorship is going to last. A youtuber at the very least can take steps to try and ensure viewership and thus, a consistent income. While Infiltration currently doesn't have a sponsor despite having some crazily impressive accomplishments.

Re: Max

Arturo and I were chilling at the venue late last night with Max's stream running on his laptop. JRosa walks over and starts complaining about how Max is so much more popular than top players, then, somewhere later in the conversation, mentions that Max's videos were part of the reason why he got into competitive MvC3.

Arturo and I bust out laughing at him for completely legitimizing exactly what Max does.

The scan posted just has the schedule (and it indicates Topanga in April), but scanning over the page, I don't see anything about those players you mentioned.

LOLOL This is great

APEX2015 just became the biggest Melee event of all time. Its the first time Melee has crossed 1000 entrants. Amazing stuff and I wish I could be there this year haha.

Max/Doom/Strider Shell too stronk.
I use Nova/Doom Beam/Strider

I'd find it fucking hilarious is Sol ends up hooking up with Elphelt

I legit find it impossible for it to end in any other way but Sin getting both the Valentines. lol

Man, you can't script some of this stuff. :lol

I feel like if there's any major that isn't EVO that I want to head out to as my first, it'd be Apex. This one just sounds like it's going to be a monster. It might surpass Big House 4 for Smash at this rate.

I hope Prog does some commentating at Apex.

I agree. Not sure how likely it would be but it'd definitely be great.

lol

The last time I dabbled in Marvel I was picking up a pocked Doom so I could have a combination of Viper/Dante/Strider, Viper/Doom/Strider, and Dante/Doom/Strider to play the field with. Maybe I should visit that again as a pet project.

OK, thanks for the translation. I used Google Translate and it seems to be a lot of Japanese just speculating in the comment section like you said. Rog had a good showing at Masters League but I'm guessing he'll still be replaced by Smug or Snake Eyez. Like I said, I would personally like to see Smug get the invite.

My one wish for the world league is to have up to 10 players divided into two pools of 5. Each pool would still be a round robin with the two winners advancing to a final FT7 for 1st place. That way we would have a really meaningful final match between the two best performers of that weekend. But it's just a pipe dream I guess.

THROW DA SCARF

Yo that's fucking dope as shit.

Is there any precedent for what the SSBM community has been doing over the last several years? It's crazy that a game nearly 15 years old is managing to continue to grow it's competitive playerbase without any real support from its publisher/developer (until now, and even then). The closest games I can think of is something like Dota or Counter-Strike, and those were from very different situations. Crazy.

This actually makes me happier than anything. Well, almost anything.

How in the hell is that possible? Seriously, I have a crazy obsession with playing old controllers on new systems and vise versa.
I got Gummo to build me a Saturn-to-PS1 converter, then I chain that to an Xtokki 360. There's a Select/Back button on the PS1 converter since the Saturn controller doesn't have one.

The love for the game is strong, it's great.

The documentary+the Evo donation drive both were pretty big in getting a lot of new blood into the scene. And the combination of having two years of Evos+MLG and other big events also motivated current players to play and practice more which lead to sponsors getting involved, which only lead to motivating players even more. Basically it's been a big snowball effect with one thing building the next. Probably the most important aspect though is the passion of the Melee scene. A lot of people, big names and small put a lot of work into giving the community more resources and content.

There's a ps3 controller thats identical to the 6 button saturn controller, same manufacturer too iirc. I picked one up a few years back.

edit: oh like an ORIGINAL saturn controller, too much effort lol

PS2, you mean. I have that one as well, but they're rare as shit now and go for well over $100 last I checked.

The build quality on them seem to be identical to the originals in every respect except the shoulder buttons. My PS2 Saturn pad's R button is kind of unreliable now, so I only use the originals for tournament play.

This is beautiful.

Also, Mr. Wizard is asking people on Twitter what games they want to see at Evo. I just remembered... MK9 and Injustice were both at Evo 2013. So fuck it, with Nintendo's support, I don't see why they can't put both Smash 4 and Melee on the roster. They would be the third and fourth biggest games at the tournament, free. With Melee's current momentum (Apex is the biggest Melee tournament ever WTF), I can even see Melee being bigger than Marvel this year, honestly.

I wonder if they will bump up the number of streams this year then, getting pretty crowded already (or just stream top 32s of most games except the top games).

Injustice and MK9 are not the same series so it wouldn't be the same. That said, if the games have much support I can understand them running two Smash games. It'd only be unfortunate if it takes the spot from another community.
