New Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer

This trailer makes me want to purchase the game. Do I have to play xenoblade on the wii to get the full experience of the sequel? Or is the story not connected?

I'm still pretty conflicted about this game: the enviroment and kaiju-level monster are amazing, but the gameplay feels more of the same, the graphics are mostly hideous (animations and character models, eugh), and the story premises doesn't inspire me much confidence, feels to much like some over the top anime like TTGL (which is a bad for me imho).

I don't see this topping, or even gettin par with, Xenoblade.

Also, the name is still ridicolous.

I don't own any current Nintendo consoles, and I don't know anything about Xenoblade. But I just watched that trailer, and the game looks fucking awesome!

This trailer suffers from the No Man's Sky Syndrome: Just what the fuck do you do in this game besides walking/flying around in huge gorgeous environments? Dear developers/publishers: That is NOT motivating.

There will be a plot(s) and missions that involves traversing/interacting with the world at large.

Are you you new to video games?

Now THIS is a world I am eager and feel very compelled to explore!

Hey WRPG devs. Show some creativity in your worlds! Take a break from trying to make everything look "realistic" (ie. inspired/influenced by some real-life locale). Sometimes a bit of imagination goes a long way! It looks like it will be time again...

Seriously, I couldn't care less about Seattle or Los Santos or Middle Earth or whatever (yes I do own the games). Give me floating islands and giant monsters and all that crazy shit.

Holy crap.

It looks like Monolith Soft did a better job creating a massive open world than any PS4/XBO dev has done on current gen hardware. Seriously, that's super impressive. I'm hyped.

Xeoblade spoilers-
Unless there some kind of absurd connection like the planet they land on in X is actually the newly created Xenoblade world from the end of Xenoblade.

Again,
when the old Earth and universe died and the universe was rebooted, all that was there was the ocean and titans. When they reboot the universe again you clearly see multiple galaxies being created and then later on Alvis mentions that there's more life forms out there. It's ambiguous enough that it's not impossible for another Earth to have been recreated/reborn.

Indeed, it make no sense at all.

Someone actually said that in one of the No Man's Sky threads.

The game is probably amazing - and the scope looks massive - but visually it's honestly not that impressive. I'll still day 1 it because I'm craving a new jrpg, but this trailer did nothing to make it shine graphically.
Agreed. I remember people going nutty over the initial reveal which had some nice visuals, most of which is missing here. I loved Xenoblade Chronicles, but looking at this I can't help but feel annoyed that the jump is just a tiny bit more than Wii to PS360 levels of visuals (plus nicer shaders). Ah well, if there is any game I would actually get a Wii U for, aside from Metroid/Starfox/maybeZelda, it's this one.

well there we fucking go haha. I swear he's also doing the Aldnoah. Zero soundtrack which also sounds identical. It's very similar. I don't mind because hey I own the OST's but I'm sure somebody more critical would point out that the sound is a bit too similar

Samesong Sawano amirite?

Let the story unravel before you judge it, it's going to be amazing with the talent behind it)

Also, the name is still ridicolous.(eh, love it that my favorite game of last gen is now a series but to each their own.)

My responses in bold. I don't know if this is going to be better than Xenoblade or not, and I don't really care, it looks amazing and that's all I know.

Wow, this is still really impressive considering we didn't get many JRPGs with this level of scope last gen aside from the very pretty but questionably playing FFXIII games.

Not nearly the same situation; XCX is a sequel to a known commodity, it's by a developer with a proven pedigree in the genre, the trailer itself is called an exploration trailer and was introduced as such in the direct, and we HAVE seen unbroken live footage of combat and questing in the E3 tree house steam. I'll admit to being a bit underwhelmed by the trailer myself, but this is not at all in the same situation as NMS

Nice, big fan of their style.

Also what's the best way to play Xenoblade chronicles before this game comes out without playing that ridiculous price tag? No I do not plan to get the New 3DS so thats out

If Nintendo was smart they'd release a digital Wii u VC version in the month leading up to the game's eventual NA release.

Themes may be linked, but the story isn't connected.

but you never know if Takahashi might flip the script at the end

your forgetting about one game with a Xeno in the title (If we are counting Wii as last gen)

If the story is connected, it'll likely be revealed end game. They wouldn't want to be spoiling anything big so we wouldn't hear anything about it.

There's no clear connection as of the moment. But gameplay wise I recommend playing Xenoblade, just so you can judge whether you'll like it or not.

The OP or a mod can just update the post or title to mention that it's an exploration/environments trailer.

+1 for this. The NOA Direct was pretty clear "...that showcases various locations from around planet Mira." It is a very deliberate trailer. No need for "barren", "lifeless" "running simulator" concern just yet.

I beat the game a couple weeks ago and that was my exact same reaction. It was like an "aha!" moment, where I fully understood how they were connecting to a more sci-fi world. In fact we may run into Shulk who's off to explore all of these new life forms. Would be really cool if we got to go to the "titan world" for a bit; or at least I would really enjoy that.

Those who know me probably figure I was taking some not-so-subtle dig at Dragon Age Inquisition. Those environments just were not compelling at all to explore for me. Skyrim/Oblivion were the same (Morrowind did it better)

So yeah, WRPG's with more creativity would be nice in their environments. The Torment Sequel seems to be aiming for that at least.

Well honestly I'm not that invested in whether the games or connected or not, I just think it's not impossible, especially with the scifi theme the game has. Parallel universes? Who knows. I would love it if a character from the last game made an appearance sure, but eh, I'm also perfectly fine with this being a completely new and unconnected game.

They hire Tanaka Kunihiko for character design and makes the main character customizable character like mmorpg...also doing bad job at bring the art to 3D.

The biggest and only real disappointment for me is still the customizable main character. Will see how it works out in the end I guess.

I'm getting Phantasy Star Online + Final Fantasy XII vibes.

In other words, I'm super interested.

Character designs look pretty terrible, though.

Yeah, Aldnoah is Sawano's music as well. The man gets around.
