Not sure how I feel about the design of the game honestly, I get the feeling that your character is small instead of the environment being big.
It's the faces in the models.... Just like Xenoblade. I'm pretty sure those characters look just fine in the artwork (even the faces)... Just like Xenoblade. The models look fine, it's the faces that people have issues with.
But then you could use the argument that Xenoblade just did seamless FFXII gameplay, so SE is not exactly behind...By showing them how to make a large scale RPG on current gen hardware.

These discussions are really dumb.
I really like Elma for some reason, she looks really cool![]()
Faces are just terrible absolutely miserable. The character models look boring and forgettable. I hope we see some changes here, and soon.
The scale of the game looks amazing, but what is up with the mega-jumps? Potentially a low-gravity environment? That may explain the plethora of gigantic alien animals.
Looks cool, but I wonder how much the game respects the player's time. If this is full of long boring treks and fetch quests I'll be pissed.

Luckily FFXV is finally trying to reach the bar the PS2 looking Xenoblade set.
FFXIII wasn't cutting it.
It's the 3d modelers they need to hire.
Character design is fine. They just need someone who can mold the 3D into something that keeps the spirit of the 2D artwork, but not be completely tied to it.
Check out the treehouse stream.
Your character is definitely small AND the environments are definitely big.
Your mech size is jusssst right
When the master of RPGs makes a corridor RPG on more powerful hardware, you have a problem. Especially when a game on inferior hardware is bigger than their previous gem's effort
FFXII raised the bar
FFXIII didnt even reach it
Xenoblade took the bar and raised it when they threw us on 2 dead gods.
FFXV looks to reclaim the throne by leaping at the bar with gigantic summons.
XCX is reaching for new heights using mechs.
We all win
I spent at least 100 hours on the first and do not remember anything like what was shown here in terms of jumping off or over a waterfall. Of course it may be memory failing me. I do remember crazy jumps in combat.
Off topic, the dolls are powered exoskeletons and not mecha, correct?
From the website:

We certainly do.We all win
Xenoblade Wii has a lot of fetch quests, yes. It also locks some of the good quests beneath generic ones. It was one of that game's biggest problems along with the MMO battle system. We have yet to see if they are still here or not.Looks cool, but I wonder how much the game respects the player's time. If this is full of long boring treks and fetch quests I'll be pissed.
Hahaha, you do realize FFXII set the model for Xenoblade right?
see the post below you
I never said Xeno was original.
Every game today has been influenced by a past game.
Square lost their way when half the talent left to form their own studios.
Hopefully there recent efforts get them back to what they do best.
Xenoblade surpassed FFXII and FFXIII
Hopefully FFXV can surpass them all.
Thats how its supposed to work.
Competition raises bar, rival raises it more, competition answers back, etc...

I wasn't the one who said that.
Let's not lose our heads here with this hype. You're changing what you said entirely.
SE made a large scale RPG on very similar hardware.
You said they've "showed" SE how to make RPGs, and that's wrong...
They showed them how to make a good one this gen.
No RPG on the Wii should even be a contender to Square's flagship [trilogy]title on the PS3
And it definitely shouldn't have screwed up FFXIV being the masters that they are, or taken 10 years to release a spinoff now mainline version with the numeral XV in it.
The fact that XV has been shown off looking heavily inspired by Xenoblade is honestly a great thing.
I'm much more hyped for it now than I was back at the previous trailer where the game looked more like Uncharted than FF.
Luckily Square's 3DS division never lost their way.
Although, this is a much more ambitious game, so there's totally a possibility that generic quests will be gone...
Oh my god... Are you serious? The fact that XV has been shown off looking heavily inspired by Xenoblade is honestly a great thing.

I can't see that happening unless there's only a tiny insignificant fraction of the number of quests in this game compared to the original. Most open world games with a sizable amount of quests have generic kill or collect xyz stuff. A world this huge will surely have filler content spread around.
I really didn't mind the quests or the combat in Xenoblade. Spent 150 hours trying to do as much as possible. They were all just an excuse to explore more of that awe inspiring world and there were tons of incentives for completing them.
Lets not pretend that Xeno's environments weren't as creative as they were big and explorable. FF12 was more routes to towns than actual locales
You were mentioning hardware, and now you're comparing the PS3 to the Wii? What?
The PS2 is much closer to the Wii in terms of hardware (which is your claim), and yes, FFXII and Xenoblade are both large scale RPGs. No one is showing anyone anything, and most certainly not Monolith Soft.
Oh my god... Are you serious?
Every time that Nomura said that Versus would be open world before, and even showed it to us, that was what? Nothing? It was all lies until they've showed the TGS trailer? Come on...
This is one of the top-dumbest comments about the FFXV vs Xenoblade topic...
.
Please remind me where its ok for the previous version of a game to be better than the sequel.
Your game should be better in all aspects on better tech. Especially if your reigning kings in the genre. When the competition on an inferior system out does your previous and current efforts, then it's time to go back to the drawing board and figure out what went wrong.
It looks like they figured out what went wrong, and what they could learn from their competition.
That's basically what I mean by "showing"

In the game industry, saying you want one thing and pulling it off are 2 different things.
Look at Peter Monoleux, Killzone 2, The Last Guardian, Unity, FFXV's 10 year cycle, Luminous Engine, etc...
But if you want to continue to take developers words for it, go right ahead smart guy.
They're not showing anyone anything. FFXII was a similar game that was on very similar hardware to the Wii.
One of the frequent jokes that made the rounds here a while back was X showing that HD towns were possible, since WiiU is more on par with the PS3/360 gen. Maybe that's what the guy's trying to compare, I dunno.
Again...
They're not showing anyone anything. FFXII was a similar game that was on very similar hardware to the Wii.
You're talking about how I said "its ok" for FFXIII to be ass.
I never said that. What I'm talking about is what you said, which is completely false.
You made an embarrassing statement full of hyperbole and fanboyism. No one showed anyone anything.
On topic - Game looks stunning.
My apologies.
I thought it was obvious to everyone that FFXV reminded everyone of Xenoblade.
Half the topics and even the threads were making this comparison.

Also this.how can ff15 remind Xenoblade
Just a very little derail but it's true that FXII has some great dungeons (The Pharos and the Mines were amazing) and the cities were lovely and very lively (Rabanastre and Bhuhjerba and even the Viera village) but the big open areas connecting those were... I don't know how to put it but they actually resemble the zones from Monster Hunter just more big, they were beautiful but also a little like constrained...That's really not true, FF12 also had much more interesting dungeon designs for one.

Don't even matter since I love this 2 games so MUCH but after played FFXII and Xenoblade I now dream about a game with the big, vast and detailed areas of Xenoblade and the beautiful and lived in cities of FFXII.
I don't get the war that seems to go on between Xenoblade Chronicles X and FFXV diehards. I'm a die hard of both, and when it comes to two huge looking big budget JRPG's coming out in the near future:

More than that, so far we've only seen two mechs. You made this game large as shit for the purpose of traversing in mecha, please don't tell me our choices are only the red flying robot and the motorcycle.
Have they commented on the approximate size of the game, for example, in relation to the first Xenoblade Chronicles? Or any other game? Or in square miles?

I often follow XCX threads (since I joined GAF at least), I just don't comment much about it because my opinion is already made and all I would post is "omg this looks too good" in every thread, so I kinda keep it to myself =P
Looking forward to Xenoblade X more at this point.
FFXV looks pretty, but I haven't seen one part that really looks enjoyable.
Flying a mech to the top of a kilometre-high cliff sure looks more enjoyable.
Elma for smash 5?
Agreed with almost all of this... but I kinda of like the contrast they have going with the suburban and residencial areas inside the city in contrast with the alien world out there since it make it feel more... alien? =PYou raise a good point it definitely lacks a lot of the height variation and size of Xenoblade's areas in the transitional parts of FF12. X looks to be taking that a step further and I'm really also looking forward to seeing how Final Fantasy XV will compare. But I was disappointed with the cities in Xenoblade as well. I'm hoping that X will remedy that issue, which it looks to be taking steps to do, though I'm not sure I'm a fan of how modern the city looked in the previous trailer they showed. It looked like an American suburb, which I'm sure was their intention, but I would have preferred something more fantastical.
Oh yeah, I really hope this one has some good dungeons since Xenoblade had some really boring ones, the only "dungeons" that I liked wereWell, both XCX and FFXV seem to be doing that, so we're getting there. Let's see if any of them will have the good dungeons too.
But Lynlee is the true main character of this game! Proof: She's narrating the trailer and she's got a monado hair pin (unlike Shulk, she wields the power of the monado on her hair).
Jokes aside, this trailer song totally needs to be in Smash 5.
Also, I love the solo vocal. Don't listen to your critics, Sawano! It sounds awesome.![]()
