Naughty Dog won't push Uncharted 4 to 60fps if it compromises player experience

Yup.

Not taking this as conformation of anything but if the current visuals wont reach 60 then thats kind of a failure on ND's part.

Being one fo the best looking games on the market is a failure, how?

i'd want them to prioritize gameplay over graphics to be honest, simply because you can more easily impress with realy great art direction even without hair that move realistically in the wind and all that goodness, however even if they stick to eyecandy over gameplay fluidity, i'd hardly call that a "failure".

People expected 60fps? Really?

Those games are all about the spectacle and visuals. No way are they compromising set pieces to try and hit 60fps - that was never going to happen.

I'd hazard a guess that the only reason they ever mentioned 60fps was to stay on the right side of the shit-slingin articles and 32-forum-posts-on-the-front-page-about framerate-and-resolution when console disparity was at an all time high.

Uncharted 4 may just run unlocked like Second Son, with the option to lock to 30fps. But 60fps locked in a AAA graphical showcase!? Hahaha - calling all spaced cadets!!!

Thats fine but they shouldn't have put that expectation out there in the first place. Same deal with the prerendered "in game" trailer. I suppose it bought them a few months of giddy hype and gave some ammo to the console warriors.

Running at 37fps a year out. I think they'll be fine. Stuff like framerate comes together later.

But I do think it's gonna be delayed into 2016.

It's gonna be 30 and that's ok. Still funny people actually though this would run at 60 on the first reveal with those graphics.

Eh...not really, ND themselves said they would target 60fps. Then they showed the first gameplay trailer and it wasn't anywhere near 60fps and now they are saying they won't go for 60 if it impacts the player experience.

'Well, we're going to go for the experience over the 60 frames.'

This is a weird sentence based upon previous comments. I thought 60fps is usually touted as being "experiential." As in, is most beneficial when "experienced" rather than just "looked at."

They never should've even mentioned 60fps. People expect mindblowing visuals from them and they wont be able to deliver that at 60fps.
It's a shame but that's how things are, they'll get a lot more heat if they don't deliver the best looking PS4 game compared to having it run at just 30fps.

Unlock the frame rate I say. Second Son felt better with unlocked frame rate. I think it's the way to go this gen if you can't hit 60.
It did feel surprisingly great with the frame-rate unlocked. I don't think the game dropped enough frames to make it noticeable. I think unlocked is perfectly fine as long as your game doesn't drop more than 5~ frames consistently(i'm looking at you bayonetta 2). Hopefully they include an option on whether or not the framerate is unlocked

Seemed quite obvious to me that it will now be a 30fps game. Both after the playable demonstration and the Ice team comments.

I guess they just realised there isn't enough juice in the tank to reach 60fps whilst also giving a nice increase in visuals over the previous games.

So it's above 30 with at least 10 months to go? I have hope for 60 fps. Now would I be upset with a locked 30 fps? Nope!

So 30fps has basically been confirmed, right?

Also, nice that they don't think 30 might compromise player experience.

I think i must accept that we probably wont be seeing 60fps games on PS4 as default until mid/end of the console's lifespan.

30 fps is what I (everyone?) expected and I'm fine with that. Would be nice if they had an option to play with an unlocked framrate though (like Killzone and Infamous). Stuttering and tearing has been a problem for me so I'd rather play at 30+ fps instead.

Why? What console game looks better?

Because the first footage shown was running at 60 fps and that was their target, the game play footage is running below 40 fps and looked less visually impressive. WTF happened to the 60 fps target? It's certainly not an impressive looking 30 fps title right now and Naughty Dog have a hell of allot of work to do if that is the eventual target (which it sounds like it is).

Uncharted 2 played pretty well at 30 fps (I fucking loved the multiplayer), but at the same time this is disappointing news after seeing Naughty Dog be so thrilled about the 60 fps in TLOU Remastered.

It will be interesting to see if they give an option. 30 locked with higher fidelity, or 60 with lower quality. Like TLoU.

Sorry if is a dumb question, but 30 and 60 are the only options ? Can't we have, maybe, locked 45fps ?
I used to lock some games in 45 frames on my laptop to prevent heat but still get a better performance than 30 frames.

Come on now, this is bullshit.

I don't know what framerate Infamous First Light is running at, but it's steady and feels like a good compromise. It looks like somewhere between 30 and 60, but without the stutter.

If they can't/won't do a 30/60 slider then ND has been bumped down a notch for me. I understand devs deciding to go with 30 to do a visual spectacle, but after acknowlding the 60fps crowd with TLoU they need to do both.

All hail kojima.

So 30fps has basically been confirmed, right?

Also, nice that they don't thing 30 might compromise player experience.

A game with a perfectly stable 30 fps is absolutely fine.

It's when a 30 fps game is constantly dropping frames that there's a problem.

I have no idea why in this climate of broken, non-functioning games that they would've even publicly entertained the idea of an Uncharted game running at 60fps.

Well I'm one of those people who would prefer the 60fps so hopefully they do something like they did with The Last of Us as I played threw that at 60 and enjoyed it way more than the 30fps mode.

Not visually impressive? Come on. And you didn't answer my question.

Was Uncharted 1-3 60fps? Because I sure didn't care when I bought all 3 of them with my PS3^^ Was perfectly playable and great games. So I don't care about it. It's a mass murder simulator anyways :-P

Sorry ND fans but this is just as unacceptable as with any other game. They avoided saying cinematic 30fps, yeah, but aiming for 30 definitely always compromises player experience over 60fps in a shooter.

I mean hey, everyone was praising how smooth and good it felt to play for its 60fps experience, but The Last Of Us Remastered yet still had drops into the 50s so it wasn't a full lock the whole way through, however that didn't compromise anybody's experience enough to go for the 30 lock.

The only reason people did was the shadow resolution bump, and not because the game felt better to play at half the framerate in any other way. (except for the people that get dizzy looking at 60fps, of course)
