* Whiplash for Best picture.

Thank you, God.

How that pedestrian fucking sunday afternoon the imitation game is picking up so many noms i have no idea. Could have named ten directors who deserved a nom over Tyldum.

I'm not even gay, but it's not fair how attractive Chris Pine is lol. Like, c'mon, man.

Also, seems like it's not as deep of a pool of movies as years past. No idea how Birdman got snubbed in best original score, but I still think it's gonna clean up.

I was debating seeing The Imitation Game today, and after seeing it get so many noms, I think my decision is made.

You DO NOT need to see American Sniper.

Rotten RT review:
"No matter how well made and compelling Eastwood's film is, to produce something this incurious about its troubling real life subject, to promote his "legend" with little more than jingoistic hagiography, is at best disingenuous and distasteful."

On second thought...

Shame Jake Gyllenhaal didn't get nominated for Nightcrawler. Though it is nice to see J.K. Simmons and Whiplash got some nomination love.

I liked the movie just fine, but how Tyldum keeps picking up these best director nods is baffling. Harvey Weinstein doing his thing again, I guess.

Birdman is a technical marvel that fell apart at the end for me. It became heavy handed in a way that was insulting to its audience. Which was too bad, because Keaton and Norton were both terrific in the film and didn't deserve for it to turn full turd in the last act.

that eastwood for ya, he's been like that for ages now.

I didn't expect Damien Chazelle to get a Best Director nomination but he belongs there over drab and grey Foxcatcher and boring ass The Imitation Game.

Whats strange is a nom for Best Adapted Screenplay though? Whiplash is a better movie to watch than read.

As per usual I will try and see all the best picture noms before the event. Need to see: American Sniper, Birdman, The Imitation Game, Selma and The Theory of Everything.

I don't really get the Birdman love, either.

Is American Sniper (haven't seen it) like this years obligatory war movie nomination?

Haven't seen a lot of the nominated films yet, but Fincher, Nolan and PTA not getting big nominations is interesting.

Norway represent though! First time we have a director nominated I think, Morten Tydlum :)

Glad to see Whiplash getting the recognition it deserves. Hope either J.K. or Ed Norton get the supporting actor Oscar because they both deserve it. Surprised that Ralph Fiennes was snubbed, especially with Brad Cooper's nomination.

The only three movies that truly deserve to be there are Birdman, Boyhood, and Whiplash. Why in the hell did American Sniper get so many nods? Movie was shit.

Also, where the hell is Gone Girl?

Not a single Director who started before 1990. New school running this shit.

Really like the Oscar Noms this year, very few nominations made me go "lolwut" apart from the lack of Lego Movie.

Morgan Tyldum over Fincher?!? Lol! Imitation Games was such a mess of a film.

Pedestrian run of the mill biopic with a fairly strong lead performance (that isn't much but a riff on the actor's most well known role), and some seriously questionable elements regarding its subject's history.

Guff.

YEAH.

I really wanted Academy to nominate someone like Damien Chazelle for whiplash over the fucking by the numbers direction of imitation game.\

Didn't even realize they missed out on Fincher. WTF academy.

Eddie Redmayne pls

David Fincher pls. I honestly thought he deserved it for Social Network instead of Hooper
