Oscars 2026 - The nominations

"Sinners" is a pretty decent vampire movie. It wasn't the best vampire movie I've ever seen by a long shot, but not a bad way to kill a couple of hours.

I never imagined it would review so well or get nominated for 16 Oscars, let alone get nominated for best picture!

I must be very out of touch.

Bram Stoker's Dracula, Only Lovers Left Alive, Near Dark, Interview with the Vampire, From Dusk Till Dawn, Let the Right One In, Vampire Hunter D…

A little surprised to see Jennifer Lawrence miss out on a nomination honestly. Feels like a snub. Anyway, I've still got a few of those films on the watchlist, so I won't bother with predictions just yet.

For Die My Love? I've watched the trailers and it just looked bad.

Sinners has been on Sky but I didn't bother watching it. Is it actually worthy of all those nominations or was it just a quiet year?
ehhhhh, if you look at the releases this year and then consider that they really want to nominate from certain groups at all cost, then it's pretty obvious why Sinners got so many noms.

Warfare not getting at least a sound design nom is atrocious. That movie hit hard on a lot of technical levels.

And how the hell does Wunmi Mosaku get the nom over Hailee Steinfeld at least? She's in like 2 scenes and her boobs do all the work!

Actually, remembered Sinners has this scene, it deserves to win

and that's not even the song it got nomed for.

And that was, by far, the best song in the movie. If "I lied to you" beats "Golden" then you definitely know the fix is in. The scene they crafted around that song was fun. but the song itself is just ho-hum versus the GLOBAL sensation of Golden.

I can judge your opinion and general taste based on what you thought of the music history scene in this movie. We see you.
Disagree it was a terrible scene, had a great rhythm and blues/noir vibe going then trashed it with all that modern stuff that looked ridiculous and was tonally incoherent. Movie would have been far better with only a excellent R and B number and era appropriate guitar solo. It was really so dissonant it completely pulled me out of the setting and really damaged the movie for me. Otherwise I thought it was a very well done vampire movie, the villain was excellent as was the young blues player. The twin brother aspect I didn't think was great and would have been better with two different actors.

Sinners is amazing and blows away From Dusk Til Dawn. Don't really get the comparisons anyway outside of the obvious surface level stuff. From Dusk Til Dawn was a fun B-movie that subverted expectations in an entertaining way. Sinners is a borderline masterpiece.
I agree Sinners is much better than Dusk till Dawn, even if it completely copies the set up of not showing what it is till 45 minutes to an hour into the film.

WTF is wrong with you???

While I agree that Sinners is -possibly- the better film from a technical stand point, FDTD is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more fun, rewatchable, and lasting. I doubt many will tlak about Sinners in 2 years, but FDTD still gets brought up on the reg today.

I'm actually shocked One battle after another and Elio being even nominated.
On the positive side, kinda agree with some nominations for Frankenstein at least (not sure I would consider them totally valid though).

Sinners is wildly overrated. It's not a great vampire film, it's not particularly entertaining or exciting, and there's a real lack of standout set pieces or horror even. No memorable climatic moments either. Solid script, great music, good direction, and yet somehow still completely forgettable.

I can see your argument. In the long run Dusk till Dawn is probably more rewatchable. It has a horror film campiness to it that makes it endearing. I find that kind of thing takes awhile to sort out though so I could not say Sinners won't develop that overtime.

Ryan Cooler is going to win for best direction, 'cause this is the best time to give it to him. MBJ will also probably win best actor and Sinners will take most of the technical categories. No idea about Best Picture, I doubt it beats OBAA or Marty Supreme.

I've seen none of the movies listed. I do have If I Had Legs I'd Kick You wishlisted because of RLM (though I usually don't share their tastes).

When I was a kid, I remember my dad filling out a list of which films and actors he thought would win each category each year. I think it was for a contest or something, but it was a little bit of fun added on to an awards show that was genuinely entertaining.

That was a long, long time ago. We don't really talk about the Oscars anymore.

Oh boy. I liked Sinners well enough, but 16 nominations? Nah. It's third act shits the bed and is my go to for "how not to do a third act in a genre swap".
Doubt it's cleaning up though; no one's touching Avatar for best visual effects, but everything else is a bit of a wild card. OBAA is probably going to sweep.

Having seen most and followed festival reactions, I feel like best picture is between OBAA, Marty Supreme, and Hamnet. I still need to see Hamnet myself but it's been talked about highly since its debut and got a globe. The rest of the movies aren't up to OBAA and MA, and I think OBAA takes it.

I'm dissatisfied No Other Choice was left off best international film with its place take by one that's there for virtue signaling.

Pleased to see no superhero stuff, though a bit surprised none in VFX. I'll have to see this Lost Bus that got a nom.

I also thought my fave documentary of the year would get a nom, The Road Between Us, but nope.

I'm surprised at Sinners being nominated so much. I expect it doesn't get any of the major film, directing, or acting awards.
