Naughty Dog won't push Uncharted 4 to 60fps if it compromises player experience

Its sad that in this day and age developers are not allowed to make a game they want to make. So ND may have targetted 60fps and now it seems they not entirely sure which way they will be going. As long as the game is at a stable framerate (locked 30 or 60) and not bug ridden, it should not be an issue at what res or framerate (locked 30fps obviously being the bare minimum) they launch at.
 
Not when you are getting other things that wouldn't be possible at 60.

I really hope ND ignores this Gaf 60 fps crowd and go for stable 30 with better graphics.
I'm curious about what isn't possible at 60fps except for better graphics and effects.
 
Truth be spoken, ND and especially Neil and Stanley indeed implied the 60 fps "dream".

I mean the way they tweeted it looked like something more than your typical "we are targeting 60 fps, we will see if we can do it".

Did they speak too early? Perhaps.

I certainly am hyped for the game , but indeed the whole 60 fps dream is theirs to blame.

People believed they were going to hit the trailer visuals with 60fps.....then the gameplay was shown, but people were still saying its work in progress, ND wont let us down, they have time to bring it to 60fps!

They said they were aiming for 60fps but that was always a load of shit. Any dev saying they are aiming for 60fps is full of it, they know damn well what they want to achieve visually and with their engine and if they wanted to hit 60fps they could; but they dont. Their goal was always visuals > framerate.
 
How is this a surprise? It's been quite clear this (outside of the WiiU) is a console generation of 30fps games at best for the most part.

Please don't do this, I own a Wii U and greatly enjoy it but it is not a graphical powerhouse and pushing Wii U graphics at 60fps should be a given.

I can't believe some people act like a 30fps game is unplayable.

Agreed a locked 30fps is suitable for most games. The only games that require 60fps in my opinion are fighting games, mobas and some first person shooters.

Make up your mind. You say they are not allowed to make a game they want, then you impose restrictions. What if they don't care if its 30 FPS locked and don't mind dips? Its still the game they want. What if its above 30 unlocked?

Are they allowed to make what they want or not?

As I keep saying, Uncharted 4 should be 30fps SP and 60 fps MP. Problem solved and customers get the best game possible on the PS4.
 
This thread is the exact reason why Neil Druckmann said don't listen to NeoGaf. Loads of embarrassing quotes by people who act like they played the game
 
I just hope they're designing with 30 fps in mind and then try to optimize it to 60. Would suck if they are designing it the other way around and end up having to lock it at 30. We would possibly get a smaller scale game as a result.

I think the article/quote clearly states that ND is actually trying to make the game they want to make.

Hmm... this is a good point. They should design the visual fidelity of the game for a solid 30FPS then try to optimise it to get 60FPS and maybe even add or improve some effects. And after watching the PSX demo, no way in Hell do I want a smaller map!

They probably shouldn't have teased the 60fps before they were sure if they're really going for it.

No. The average gamer doesn't care for framerate. Visual flair is what appeals. Only the hardcore care for the numbers. Flagship title is always going to go for visual flair given it has to showcase what the console can do. Locked 30fps is pefectly acceptable. I don't get where this "60fps or bust" talk is coming from. Developers are allowed to adjust to what they want to achieve. Be it visuals over framerate or vise versa.

For the clowns on Gaf who obsess over 60fps yes it's a PR blow.

Average Joe doesn't even know or care about any of this and just wants an awesome Uncharted game that plays great and has amazing graphics.

In addition, people with brains here also recognize this is not a blow for them either and respect ND's right to make the game they want.

apparently it was just a dream. Honestly, I rather have a stable 30 fps with amazing graphics than a unstable 60 fps with average graphics. 60 fps would had been nice, but it's not a deal breaker in my humble opinion.

Not only that, but also spectacle. It would be shame if they dial set-pieces down because they want to aim for 60 FPS, and don't reach it at the end.

Set pieces are what define the Uncharted series and I have faith Naughty Dog will not compromise them for frame rate
 
I'd definitely prefer 60fps, but there's nothing wrong with a solid 30fps. Whichever they end up achieving in the end is fine by me.
 
It is, GZ is V. Additionally, they still work on the engine. If anything TPP will be better than GZ.

I agree with you but I think you feel like I'm doubting the game will maintain 60 fps. I'm not, in just simply saying it's not out yet lol. GZ is only a part of TPP

Sure we would all love to have it in 60fps, but practically no one truly expected itor would consider 30fps a "serious blow".

GAF is a wonderful place like that. People here actually said TLOU on PS3 was a slideshow and was unplayable.

The game was never going to look this good and be 60fps locked and people are delusional if they thought it would. There is absolutely nothing wrong with 30fps.

My comment was aimed at the "60fps or bust" crowd. The die hard 60fps crowd. 30fps locked is the bare minimum in terms of performance and playability. Anything below that is obviously not going to be something anyone would enjoy. They should be allowed to make what they want above locked 30fps.
 
And the point is, which of those features are more important than 60fps? You're gonna have diverging opinions on it, but personally i'd take 60 fps over hair that gets wet or a moving shirt that, as cool as it is, i won't see and forget about while i'm actually playing the game.
Great stuff to post as gif on forum console wars, but beyond that, i wouldn't prioritize it over something (like 60fps) that actively helps responsiveness and fluidity.

Did you enjoy Uncharted 1 - 3? Probably not. They weren't 60 fps and we know how that's unacceptable.

The 60fps-only is the new annoying thing of gaming. Stable 30fps is very much playable with 60fps preferred.

Targeting and achieving are two completely separate things. Watch the TLoU doc for a quick glimpse of what they want to achieve and what they know they can feasibly achieve with what they have to work with.
