Windows 10: The Next Chapter - Media Briefing Details (Phil Spencer speaking)

Not at all. Even MS isn't that stupid.

Will Microsoft's evil side be more powerful than it's stupid side? Watch the event unfold before your eyes live next week at the Windows 10 briefing!

"Those who own Xbox Live GOLD will now have access to all of your digital downloads through the Xbox store on W1indxws 10!"

*looks to crowd for applause*

"The First title to become available on W1ndxws and on Xbox one will be Ori and the Blind Forest... stay tuned for more upcoming blockbuster titles that gamers love. But wait...Here is one more game that i want to show."

*opens blazer to show RARE t-shirt*

**cut to black and play opening sequence of the next installment of Banjo*

"Make sure to see us at E3 for even more exclusives and news for Xbox One and W1NDXWS 10. Thanks"

*Drops mic and moon walks off stage*

HAHAHAHAAH what am I thinking?

I wish but that's probably going to be saved for E3. If Rare is indeed making Banjo Kazooie and other core games, it needs to be announced loudly at E3 :)

MS can't even attempt enforcing a "you can only buy PC games from Windows Store" -policy. They can't do anything that even remotely tries to limit developer or consumer freedoms on Windows. Just look at what happened with IE. Windows RT was a flop. Why was Windows RT a flop? No app support.

Windows lives and dies by software support, if MS tries to limit it, people will switch to a better OS faster than MS can blink.

I would love however if MS tried to make Windows Store more like a Steam competitor. Or if they built gaming-related features into Windows that Steam, Origin and other platforms could use.

January 21? How stable is it expected to be?
I'm moving to new PC parts in few weeks and i would like already to move to win10.

I would imagine fairly stable. You can already get Win10 on your PC btw if you want. Not sure how stable the current stuff is. I havent been using it.

I don't expect anything good. MS can't even get MCC working on Xbox One, why do people think they can do it on PC? Or would?

This. Exactly this. I figured it didn't need spelling out, but there you have it.

Durante is no fool, but I wonder if he and I should have both put a /s at the end.

If they're bringing Windows 10 to the Xbox One, then maybe they'll be turning the Xbox into just a windows PC but with no desktop access?

If that's the case, then perhaps their tools will allow developers who are making Xbox games to target PC at the same time with essentially no added effort other than adding k&m controls and exposing some graphics settings in a menu.

Instead of continuing Xbox as a platform, they can move to having just Windows be their platform, and Xbox will just become an entry-level device into their ecosystem. It would be a pretty bold and forward-thinking move that would protect their business model should consoles as they currently exist become less relevant as many suspect several years from now, but with no real detriment to the way in which they currently do business.

Imagine if Ubisoft no longer had to farm out their PC ports to Ubisoft Kiev, but instead all of the optimizations that they put into the xbox version of their games would also benefit people playing on PC since they would be running the exact same build, but with certain PC-specific toggles enabled.

I'm using it as my primary work machine, tech preview. A few gremlins, nothing I can't live with.

Haven't tried it for gaming.

Is that not a picture of Forza Horizon 2 on the desktop image above?

Well, I like windows. I plan to upgrade my Pc next year, for gaming on windows . I consider buying a windows phone in the future, since I find the interface attractive.
But I have no interest on the xbone..
Looking forward for the conference

There's some cool stuff you all will use that'll be announced!

And look at little Ori in the marketing material - looking like a boss!

Ori releasing right after the briefing? nice!

Streaming would only be interesting to me if it is possible on Smartglass on my iPad :o

Expecting at least 1 PC (W10) exclusive game to be announced, also eager to see the next step for Windows Phone, it's grown substantially in the last year let's see if MS can maintain that momentum.

Dude, this is what I hope Windows 10 is!

All the streaming to XB1 stuff is an outdated thought. Let's go MS!

MS I just want something like that for my Xbox One controller and my Lumia 930 !

Really hope streaming from Xbox One to any Windows 10 device will be announced next week !

I'm not sure if that's feasible. Although universal apps are part of Microsoft's strategy, with games you need to take into account the numerous hardware combinations for PC, instead of only one for Xbox One. So, while the same build with different toggles for a specific platform is possible, you'd have to put a lot of unnecessary code the Xbox wouldn't use. The game may not read it, but the size would probably be bigger for assets it wouldn't use on console.

It is much simpler with general apps, though. That I can believe Microsoft may go for.

I have to say, I have a strong dislike for Windows 8. Here's hoping Windows 10 is a much better release. I actually went back to Windows 7 on my main rig.

Not gunna lie. This is pretty awesome. Unified software platforms are great, as long as they are done right. Wishing them the best.

Still running windows 7. I'll run whatever OS gets in the way of Steam the least and I suspect that Windows 10 ain't it.

No joke if they announced an Xbox Store that sold games like Steam and had decent sales, as well as no bull shit, and would let me earn achievements towards my Gamerscore on Xbox I would pretty much jump ship from Steam.

  • Xbox Live Digital store on Windows 10
  • People that don't have Xbox Ones can buy its software on Windows 10 machines
  • People can play those games on their PC
  • Cross platform support between PC and Xbox One
  • Xbox One gets Windows 10 apps

Just what I think.
