NCAA restores Paterno's vacated wins

I think I need a chart to show me the last 30 years' worth of vacated wins and titles (which by and large never get restored), what it took for the NCAA to void those wins and cap the chart with 'Penn State got their wins back and they covered up child rape.'

Cross-posted from CFB:

At least Joe Paterno died in the midst of that shitshow and had to face what a disgusting pig he was before he kicked the bucket.

It would have sucked had that story broken after his death.

It's a good thing none of those players traded their own belongings for goods and services, because the NCAA will not let THAT shit stand.

who cares about the record books? only people who care too much about collegiate sports.

$60 million is going to child abuse programs. So I'm happy with that. Maybe you can make an argument that's not enough, I dunno.

could you imagine if a player signed their own jersey AND THEN SOLD IT FOR MONEY?

christ, just wipe that entire program off of the face of the earth, despicable.

I suspect they'll institute formalized harsh rules at the same time so that these sorts of situations can be handled more uniformly in the future: anyone who molests a child will miss at least 4 games of the regular season.

2 after appeal.

Unless it's before the playoffs/bowls in which case punishment will be carried out at the beginning of the next season.

And just think, Paterno didn't even molest anyone!
And neither did "Penn State!"
Punishing either of them at all is foolish!

Good job fighting to restore your reputation as Pedo State. Disgusting organization rewards a disgusting human being.

Bravo ncaa

Winning-est coach in NCAA history covered for a child molester on his coaching staff but there was no Heisman Winner in 2005 because the original winner took some money.

Progress!

Should have never vacated the wins in the first place if you were going to pull this shit. Of course they wait until after the college playoffs are over and their stock is at its highest to announce this nonsense.

So in the end, what was the punishment Penn State faced? One year of bowl eligibility and like 10 scholarships lost, and $60 million to child abuse programs? when the entire athletic department was complacent in the serial rape of children on campus by one of its football coaches?

Absolutely fucking ridiculous..

They basically were not punished at all now.

Meanwhile, USC lost a national title, a Heisman, thirty scholarship players, and untold amounts of money due to severely crippled performance because a player was paid money by an outside agent in order to entice him to leave the school.

Reggie Bush should have raped children with the full knowledge and implicit backing of Pete Carrol during his years at the school instead.

Not complacent, complicit.

Hey, it's okay if you rape a child (or a few dozen), just don't fuck with our money

That is going too far and absolutely unexceptionable. He only needs to witness the rape, and we coo.

has anybody at USC protested this farce?

The running backs coach who was fired in the wake of the sanctions is suing the NCAA and in the process of discovery right now, but Pat Haden's stance has been to "move on and win the right way." So basically no.

Congrats, NCAA. You've just condoned child rape and are enabling the scum of society. But in America, football trumps all...

The wins should never have been vacated. No one's vacating Florida wins when Aaron Hernandez was there even though he murdered people. It was a dumb thing to do.

I agree

Original post-So what was Penn State's actual punishment at this point?
Wikipedia said:
On July 23, 2012, the NCAA imposed a $60 million fine, four-year postseason ban, scholarship reductions, and vacated all victories from 1998–2011
they already reduced the bowl ban and scholarship reduction. They'll be at full strength next season. They got their wins back.

They "restructured" the 60 million dollar fine but I can't find any specifics as to what that means

It shows no punishment. Others in the future know they don't have to act, they can cover this stuff up and get a slap on the wrist

And the NCAA fought to seal all documents in that initial trial because it showed how incredibly biased and incompetent they were in their investigation.
