The Order: 1886 has gone gold

Thanks, I never played those games. The visual aesthetic is cool it's just the gameplay kinda of makes me sigh, I guess I've just played too many third person shooters and I'm kind of burned out. I'll wait for reviews and GAF impressions to decide whether I'll give it a shot.
Play Ghost of Sparta!

Need to see some reviews first, maybe more gameplay as currently it feels like a rental product. Still hope it is going to be very good.

It is great and is actually one of my favorite GoW games. Even though it doesn't have as much content as the console releases, I feel it gives the game a great pace. The console releases can sometimes drag on a bit too long for me.

I really hope The Order can propel RAD to the next level both commercially and creatively.

let's wait to see what pc multiplat and/or exclusive will deliver this year on high end ....
But yes, mass ignorance will probably choose a well marketed console title even if you can find better on high end pc.

Is this pre-salt salt? A preview of salt to come?

Hell yea...! Pre-ordered and looking forward to it.

looking forward to it too, but why have you preordered it?

Not baiting you, just curious what makes people preorder so far out from release.

The only reason i would preorder now is if it's a "day 1" game. I would order it digitally a couple of days before release so it's ready to go in the morning and I don't have to leave the house (I am that lazy).

I am never going to preorder for any other reason, especially DLC, which is usually pointless rubbish. Been burnt before, never again.

I'm trying to avoid watching too much footage before playing so i was wondering if someone could answer a question i have about this game. From earlier footage, it seemed that the camera was very close behond the character so i was wondering: is the camera in this game 360 and free (like Uncharted) or is it limited? Can you look everywhere (above, behind,...)? I hope you can since the setting and world seems amazing. I spent half my time looking around in games like Uncharted :) I hope the gameplay isn't so guided that you can't spent time doing that.

I'm depressed at how many people are saying "Already Pre-Ordered!" in this thread. Did we learn nothing from 2014? Even games that seemed like guaranteed hits had massive issues for weeks after launch, or plain and simply were mediocre games at best that no amount of patching could fix.

Here's a game that has mixed previews, with some big websites posting videos literally warning gamers against pre-ordering The Order, and so many of you are still so eager to throw money at it in advance? Guys, wait for the reviews if you want devs and publishers to focus on creating quality games to turn a profit, instead of focusing on creating hype trains and marketing pushes to drive pre-orders to turn a profit. No harm in buying this game on day one without pre-ordering. The stock won't run out. RAD still get just as much of your money. You'll have a good idea about the game's quality by that point.

I'm so worried about seeing a bunch of threads popping up next month discussing how bad this game's mission structure is, and how ripped off some people feel by unpolished gameplay... Be smart with your money.

Sony have yet to disappoint me this gen, I pre-order based on their track record.

You are so worried?

Let people do as they wish and worry about your own money.

You maybe sincere but it could also be construed as concern trolling.

Also day one sales are as much part of the hype train you are worried about, don't make sense what you are saying.

The best way to learn a lesson is to learn it from your own failures, not from somebody else's advice. Let them pre-order if they want to.

Wouldn't the fact that it's gold a full month prior to release negate any need for a day one patch? Particularly considering there isn't any multiplayer?

No. For example Infamous Second Son went gold a month before release but during that month they were fixing bugs for a day one patch.

Of all the games coming out soon, this is one of the last ones you should be worried about regarding broken launches. Of all the recent games with launch troubles, almost all of them are related to some sort of online component. Even AC:U's bugs were amplified due to online integration gone wrong. This game is entirely offline. It is highly unlikely for there to be any "unforeseeable errors" that slip through a controlled QA testing.

The game going gold this early suggests that they've had more than enough time to polish to their liking, and haven't had to make any last minute compromises.

Really hope they get photo mode in there close to launch. Its so much better imo to go around taking pics on your first play-through.

Driveclub is their most recent release. Delayed for an entire year, and it still didn't work properly for over a month after release. Even today it still has frequent issues with connections. That's an acceptable track record?

Also day one sales are as much part of the hype train you are worried about, don't make sense what you are saying.

How does that not make sense? I'm saying on day one you'll have a wealth of reviews to read over to determine if this game is going to be enjoyable for you, whether it delivers what it promised (as so many games last year didn't), and whether it actually works or is riddled with bugs, glitches, and performance issues that will take weeks or months to be patched out. Right now we only have previews to go on, and a lot of those previews talk about lackluster gunplay, insta-fail stealth sections, copious QTEs, frequent bugs, and some specifically warn people against pre-ordering this game.

On day one, you'll have reviews and a good idea as to whether the game works as intended. You lose nothing, still play from day one, and gain extra knowledge about the title. We should all know by now that marketing can't be trusted, and pre-orders benefit you in absolutely no way at all. Unless you love pants of speed.

if it makes people like you depressed then I definitely will pre order.

Well, if you're capable of logic like that I can understand why you don't see the problems with pre-ordering.

Firstly The Order doesn't have any online mode, so in terms of server issues and things of that ilk, there's no chance of it.

With regards to the game itself, do you always let reviews and other people's impressions dictate your buying decisions? Whatever happened to buying based off your own personal interests and whim's? We need to stop giving journalists and review outlets so much clout, because the reality is it's just one subjective opinion offered as part of someone's paid job, with a deadline and other constraints in place. If anything, I'm finding journalists are to an ever increasing degree, out of sync with a good portion of gamer opinions, and more to the point, skill levels. The latter especially makes a big difference.

Games such as Driveclub, Ryse, Alien Isolation, Wolfenstein, Evil Within etc, got a large number of negative reviews, but gamer impressions have been far more positive on the whole. And then you have games like Dragon's Dogma which sit sub 80 on metacritic, but are overwhelmingly praised, and several gamers GOTG here on GAF.

I'm pre-ordering the game because I like the look of what I see, want it there in a package waiting for me day 1, and I'm willing to take the chance on it. Plus I'm supporting the developers, who are still in their infancy in the grand scheme of things. I don't need, nor do I rely on other people's reviews to make that decision for me. I'd rather be the one giving my own opinion and impressions on the game.

Yeh thats utter BS. Been playing DC nearly a month now and only had connection issues during the DDoS stuff.

May want to recheck the fact sheet there. And why is DC even being mentioned in this thread?

.

I do wish people would stop using DC as an example of shit like this.

If I was a developer, that's the very reason I WOULDN'T include photo mode in the game at launch.

Yeah I guess that could actually ruin immersion for the first play through. I guess what I mean is I hope it comes out within a week of launch just to help me keep interested in it for a bit longer. Hate having to wait weeks because by the time it does, I've moved on.

Especially when the response from gamers who own the game has been overwhelmingly positive. If most had decided their purchase based on reviews of the game, they wouldn't have had "some of the most fun they've had in a racer in years", which is a popular sentiment you'll hear from people who bought the game over in the OT. Hell, it was my GOTY.

Side note, DC does not have frequent connection issues. I've had maybe 3-4 drop outs in several weeks, over dozens of hours of game time, and even then I suspect those may have had more to do with DDoS or PSN issues than with the game itself.

Yeah, don't tell me how to spend my money. I trust RAD, I trust Sony, I'm a big fan of single player (only really like couch multi), I love the look of the game and I want to play it early so I can still be surprised by it.

Edit: The gaming media and I have never been so far apart in our opinions - I trust Edge because they criticise a game in a good way without just trying to score hits, or rambling about vagaries like 'soul'. And I trust my own tastes.

It was one single Eurogamer preview video. Just because it spawned a thread of epic proportions doesn't make it more than what it was: just one single preview, and a controversial one at that.

Driveclub is their most recent release. Delayed for an entire year, and it still didn't work properly for over a month after release. Even today it still has frequent issues with connections. That's an acceptable track record?
Driveclub is among the best games I bought last year and I had enough fun playing tour mode during the first two weeks of connection issues. So going by that track record I should definitely preorder, thanks. I will wait for my birthday though

I'm depressed at how many people are saying "Already Pre-Ordered!" in this thread... Be smart with your money.

I pre-ordered it and I'm getting it for £22.20 with discounts. If I don't like it I could sell it for profit. Try buying a PS4 game at half price in the first 2 months, never mind day 1.

I'm being very smart with my money. If I went off reviews that others said were great, I'd have wasted a lot of money on games that sucked. If I'd been put off by reviews who said games sucked, I'd have never played some great games.

Sure, but there's still a chance of unoptimized gameplay and awful framerates, frequent bugs and glitches, poor mission design (like the rumoured insta-fail stealth sections in this game), lack lustre story, etc. The majority of big AAA releases last year suffered from one or mulitple of these issues. I'm just advocating waiting to hear that this game works as promised and delivers what it claims before throwing money at it. Especially after the negative previews we've been reading.

With regards to the game itself, do you always let reviews and other people's impressions dictate your buying decisions?

Of course not. I also don't adopt the opposite extreme of believing the publisher's hype and throwing money at something before I have an indication of its quality. That's equally crazy.

I'm pre-ordering the game because I like the look of what I see, want it there in a package waiting for me day 1, and I'm willing to take the chance on it. Plus I'm supporting the developers, who are still in their infancy in the grand scheme of things.

And all I'm saying is if you wait for the review embargoes and it's everything you expect (doesn't have to be universally considered great, just ticks all your personal boxes and isn't broken at launch) then you can still buy on day one (still pre-order and pre-download digitally if the embargo is up before launch day), still support a dev knowing they've earned the cash. The devs lose nothing from that. You're only more informed about your purchase, and avoid disappointment.

I just think it's crazy that people are still willing to believe publisher hype and throw money at a game in the hope it will be what they expect in a post-Aliens: Colonial Marines, Assassin's Creed Unity, Destiny, Driveclub, Battlefield 4, Diablo 3, Sim City world.
