Highest scoring team in football and we're going to change the playcalling structure.

ok!

I wasn't even calling for that. I was basically saying those were the options besides firing a coach and I don't think any of it is ideal.

My overall point was that you basically let a coach off the hook because what the fuck else can you do?

I do agree with ez, players just didn't make plays, they were in the right spots but just made bad decisions/plays, as a coach you can't control any of that.

You can't give McCarthy a pass however on being thankful that he netted 6 points. Probably had over a 50 percent chance of punching it in on 4th and almost nothing. Should have been more aggressive early in the game, it's really worth it considering you had them backed up if you failed.

Guess I don't really get what you mean by "give him a pass." I said at the time it was fucking dumb to kick field goals there. Should I be lighting McCarthy effigies?

For the record, you will never see me crucifying a coach for going for it on fourth and 1 from the 1 in all but a few extremely specific situations. The same goes for passing on a third down with a lead late in the game in an attempt to keep the ball and run some clock. I'm not saying you have to be Chip Kelley all the time but generally speaking I think the more aggressive call tends to be the best one.

This is especially true against a great D like the Seahawks because how often are you going to drive down to the inch line against them?

Ok, so what do you want the fans to do about it? Or the organization? What constitutes "holding somebody accountable" if that action doesn't include firing?

You just want McCarthy for yourself.

Just disagree with the idea of settling/being thankful for FGs. I mean he doesn't deserve to be stoned, but criticism is fair, still not the main reason they lost.

Don't really see a lot of people not criticizing him, though I am also not reading anything related to football today

Kinda my question.

Also it's so dumb, and is totally results based. Notice how no one is ripping on Carroll for punting late in the game down 15 on the Packers side of the field? Nope, he's ballsy!!

Give me a break.

Am I really that bad at articulating a simple point? Apparently I am so just read LJ's post a few dozen times.

There's still time to make a proper educated decision. ;P

Why do you guys want that guy to choose a life of misery like most of the rest of us? He has a chance to choose a smart, winning organization. He can be something we aren't.

You can cheer for good, or you can cheer for evil.

looks like I've made the right decision

Deflated balls may be the lamest scandal ever. Especially after a beatdown like that.

To be honest it just seems like anytime the Patriots win there is cheating allegations. I mean if they cheated then fine punish them, but even if deflated balls were used, that would help the other team also.

You just came off as very angry about it all for some reason. That's where you kind of lost me.:)

I was really mad at it myself, it just reminded me way too much of 49ers/Giants 2002 playoffs, and Giants/Eagles 2011.

Luckily for me, I forgot about Vikings/Giants from the 90's.

You just seem mad, bro. Everybody is already criticizing him and the Packers for blowing such a huge lead. Nobody is saying "Well, that was the best they could do." But they barely missed the Super Bowl. There is only so much vitriol you can chuck at a team that had such great success.

I have seen the Dolphins lose a lot of close games over the last 3 years in part because of a pansy head coach. I guess it's kind of an easily hit nerve for me!

I don't even dislike McCarthy, to be honest. He's usually a great coach. I just dislike how he coached the game yesterday.

And ez, Caroll punting on that 4th was stupid, in my opinion. I said as much at the time. Generally speaking he is a fairly aggressive coach, though (fake FG, for instance).

Also, I didn't want to say this but I wanted the Packers to win so maybe that's part of why I sound kind of angry. ;)

Going into last year I would never had that thought about Edelman

@MikeKlis: Kept hearing last 2 years Tom Brady doesn't have Peyton Manning's weapons. Broncos have no one like Julian Edelman. Unique, winning player.

Why are you letting him off the hook when he was such a pussy coward?

Well, he did admit he was rooting for the Packers.

Personally for me, Carroll has proven to me more than McCarthy. To be given a weapon like Rodgers and only have one super bowl makes me doubtful about him (that and Rodgers being super doubtful about him as well).

*Shrug*

McCarthy makes a lot of questionable play calls during games that he gets away with because his offense is talented enough to overcome it. That or some defensive penalty bails him out. He once and a while feels like the Joe Flacco of NFL coaches. McCarthy kind of frequently gets out-coached during big games as well.

I still for the life of me can't understand why he was being so ultra conservative the entire game yesterday. He was clearly playing to not-lose instead of going for the win. He needed to go for the TD on that second 4th and goal. He needed to go for a first down on their last time. He probably should have challenged Sherman after he got hurt.

Ok, so what do you want the fans to do about it? Or the organization? What constitutes "holding somebody accountable" if that action doesn't include firing?

Take away his play calling responsibilities and give it to someone else. And while it didn't come into play during the Seattle game, he should hand over the red challenge flag to someone else and have them take care of that too since McCarthy is awful with challenging.

You can laugh all you want but McCarthy is a mediocre play caller.

They are consistently one of the highest scoring teams in football. McCarthy's value is the way he works the offense. If you want to take away his playcalling I see zero reason to retain him as the head coach.

They scored 30+ ppg this year. Who do you want to give play calling duties to that you are confident will be significantly better?

I just love how with all this hide sight talk, Rodgers is totally healthy, didn't miss 3 yard passes and the offense was totally clicking and did nothing wrong all game.
Sherman was sleeping on the sideline, and there was no worry about a defense that played lights out considering the positions they were put in.

Ultimately too many mistakes. No one would be complaining if players continued playing and doing their jobs. The last 5 minutes was a victory lap because the defense out there like a T-ball game 'good gaming' Wilson and company as if they were the ones that gave up.
Any one of about 10 different plays gets played correctly and people lament a lack of aggression, but that's about it.

The mistake that annoyed me the most in the Green Bay game was when Burnett went to the ground like he had just sealed the game. Dude had a lot of room to run and there was so much time left on the clock. When all was said and done Green Bay killed about 20 seconds on the clock and didn't score. I feel like that was the beginning of the end for Green Bay.

I don't think that was a big mistake at all to be honest. That interception should have pretty much sealed the game. But McCarthy again decided to play not-to-lose instead of playing to win and ran the ball three times and punted, didn't even truly entertain the idea of going for a first down that would have killed a ton more clock had they got it.

"I didn't think it would take a lot of points to win this game," McCarthy said. "I came in here to run the ball. The one statistic I had a target to hit was 20."

It's all good, guys. McCarthy achieved his goal!

By the way, Seattle scored 36 on GB the first time they played and averaged 24.6 pts/game (10th in the league).
