NFL investigating the Patriots on possible deflated football allegations

This is what I'm confused about. It's not like the pats can go and deflate a ball and bring it back. Officials always handle the ball before the play right?

I think there's a possibility the ball was deflated, but it wasn't intentional.

But I'm biased

Basically it comes down to these three scenarios. The ball would naturally deflate, a ref would deflate it, or a person would have to go on national television and deflate them.

As a non-American I have to ask; can any of this be turned into the plot for Ace Ventura 3 10 years from now?

No amount of air would've kept the Colts from getting their asses kicked. 45-7

...Now I'll just be over here in my corner being depressed about the Packers.

Harbaugh just announced he's scheduled a press conference later this afternoon to come out and state the Patriots deflated his balls too.

That's not exactly explicit in the rules, but even after the equipment people break them in the officials check them before the game.

Yes, agreed. If anything was done, you would assume it would have been caught. I'm leaning towards the weather affecting the pressure in the balls. Either way, it's blown out of proportion imo.

Nah, that will be from the Packers player that had the ball go through his hands, bounce off his helmet, and right into the hands of the Seahawks player.

If they did doesn't that mean the Colts were playing with a deflated ball also? Thus making things even?

The Cheatriot Way.

But as the Cowboys learned in Green Bay, the universe is self correcting.

It will be swift and pitiless.

When it was the norm and everyone did it and it wasn't illegal until 2006 yet it somehow takes away from them winning three SBs, it's a bit of a conspiracy theory.
It's less conspiracy theory and more every team fan that wasn't the patriots coming together and collectively having a group therapy session for the ass kicking they received at the hands of the patriots during those years. "It's okay Timmy, THEY CHEATED!!!11", "BRADY HAS ZERO RINGS PEYTON HAS ONE SO HES BETTER", etc.

At the time it was just amusing, but over the years it's sort of becoming a sad joke that you scratch your head at for people still talking about what amounted to such a complete nonissue that no one in reality actually gives a shit about. The patriots are a good football team and have dominated the last 15 or so years. Get over it.

If you actually think is a remotely relevant issue you're just revealing your own bitterness at the Patriot's success. Not a fan of them but that's how it looks to me.

-CHEATING DOESN'T MATTER
-EVEN IF IT DID, EVERYONE DOES IT ANYWAY
-YOU HAVE NO PROOF(because Goodell destroyed it LOL)

Pat stans bingo is so fun.

Really? Plagiarizing reddit posts?

Never mind, definitely different enough and obvious enough to be coincidence. Disregard me.

One of the sad things about the internet is realizing just how many of your jokes are obvious low-hanging fruit that everyone else is also using.

Deadspin is calling this Ballghazi and it's making me so so so so happy.

Jeez, there's an example right there. :/

Yes, they handle, inspect, and mark the approved balls. I don't understand how the Patriots could cheat in this manner. This particular accusation of Patriots cheating doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

They've cheated before, It wouldn't be surprised.. But really, it didn't matter how much air was in that football. They destroyed the Colts.

They destroyed the colts by lining up in illegal formations, announcing eligibility and then running the play immediately without giving the defense enough time to assign people to free receivers.

It's unbelievable the league said what the Pats did to Ravens and Colts is legal. Watch next year they change the rule after Brady and the Pats get their ring so no one else can shit on the rulebook.

How can they simultaneously line up illegally but do nothing illegal according to the league?

Considering the patriots are going to get beaten badly by the seahawks. they won't be getting any ring anytime soon.

Hahahahaha this is incredible

John is that you!?

Announcing the eligibility of the players turns it into a legal formation. The kicker is, when you do announce eligibility/ineligibility the defense is supposed to be notified by the referees and be given time to adjust. Guess what didn't happen?

I think it is pretty clear that the Patriots, with their formations and last second eligibility calls, are playing a similar game that seattle did the other year. They are gaining a competitive advantage through unethical means.

Seattle took advantage of the refs unwillingness to call defensive holding and PI on every play based on historical statistical evidence and exploited that by committing fouls on pretty much every play to disrupt receivers and the QB timing. The result has been a tougher focus on those sorts of penalties(though I'd argue still not enough) which should of been in place all along.

Same thing will happen to NE. They will get to see how far their borderline behavior gets them and then it will be clamped down on in the offseason.

It's just a shame our Super Bowl is between these two.
