Evolution 2015 lineup to be announced January 20 at 7 PM PST

Time to run the predictions, folks.

The lock-ins:
USFIV (the classic, will be the last year for this entry, SFV to follow up next year)
UMVC3 (will get a good amount of entrants, may be the last year in the lineup)
GGXrd (Respected anime FG series, possible ASW money-hat?, next-gen)
Smash 4 (next-gen, Nintendo will somehow sponsor/push for this version)
MKX (next-gen, "guaranteed" Netherrealm money hat, "groove" system will be interesting to see)
KI (EVO sponsored by MS, next-gen, new update/developer doing great updates)

See a pattern? Most of the entries above are in new consoles, I see this being the last year for games that are run exclusively on PS3/360. USFIV is ready to call it quits, UMVC3 may end up having to be taken out due to this)
Which may leave one to three spots open depending if the EVO staff has the scheduling on lockdown...

Up in the air:

KOFXIII (low number of entrants last year, been in the running for a couple years now)
TTT2 (same thing, developer/community had to step in to be even considered last year)
DOA5 (possible moneyhat? new entry?)
Melee (community's favorite, if Nintendo wants to be nice...)
Persona 4 Arena 2 (new entry, GGXrd may overshadow)

LOL NO WAY:

Skullgirls (most of the DLC characters have been released, small yet strong community)
Blazblue (old compared to P4A2, plus, again, GGXrd)
Injustice (MKX, tho)

When's Anime?

Actually the more I think about it the more Melee makes sense to be included too. No way Wiz is turning down all those $50-70 entry fees.

if they've beaten it into Mr. Wizard's head by now that Melee and Smash 4 don't have that much crossover, then that $$$ from entry fees might change his mind....lol

It's time for skull girls to shine.

I love me some Skullgirls, but I'm just going to be real here. It's not going to be popular enough to make it. The amount of trouble that the studio went through which a lot of wasn't their fault, contributed to the game's decrease in popularity.

I like how people think NRS just money hats their way into EVO. Our community has had good turn outs for years now. We have spots because we're some of the bigger games. Deal with it.

If only one Smash game makes it, it needs to be Melee. I'd rather play 4, but it's just not a spectator sport so I'm worried that if 4 has a poor showing, Smash won't be back at all in 2016. It's just better for the tournament and the community that Melee remains the flagship.

Would love to see both of course.

I'm not gonna make predictions because Wiz and co. always blow them up by announcing more games than ever.

If it were me, I'd want fewer games than last year because we didn't get enough stuff on stream. I'd take Xrd, Tekken Tag 2, Melee, Smash 4, Mortal Kombat X, Marvel and Street Fighter just to hit every sub-community in the FGC (cept KOF, but your game is old as shit and it's not popular enough to justify running it again).

Tekken begins and ends on Friday. Xrd and Melee top-8 end Day 2. MKX, Smash 4, Marvel and Street Fighter are run during finals day. Fewer games on Day 3 to get Street Fighter top-8 a bit earlier. Smash 4 gets Melee's spot this year because the new game deserves the shine, Melee can certainly return to that spot if Smash 4 falls off in 2016.

My Prediction - 2 games for every category.

*Capcom Games*
Ultra Street Fighter 4
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

*USA!! USA!!*
Killer Instinct
MKX

*Smash Scene*
Smash 4
Smash Melee

*Anime*
Guilty Gear
Blaz Blue

No 3d Games until Tekken 7 and KOF finally off the main games list.

USFIV (Every year until SFV)
UMvC3 (Decent run last year, will probably be back for one more year at least)
Super Smash Bros. 4 (Nintendo sponsoring recent major events has this on a lock)
Guilty Gear Xrd (With steam having been picked up I think this is going to be it's first major voyage)
BlazBlue Chronophantasma (Last year's miracle story might just fuel another year)
Killer Instinct (Still in it's seasonal work and Microsoft is guaranteed to sponsor)
Mortal Kombat X (The earliest release out of all, but NetherRealm/WB sponsoring are to be expected)

My modest prediction. Melee could happen but that's going to sorely depend on fan influence or whether Nintendo is okay with Smash 4 sharing the money throne (which I honestly think is very likely). Don't think KoF or Tekken will live to see this one.

The real EVO game we need.

Oh we're doing ideal EVO lineups?

Ultra Street Fighter IV
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Super Smash Bros Melee
Guilty Gear Xrd
Under Night In Birth EXE Late
Killer Instinct
Injustice/Mortal Kombat X

You mean like last year? :P

I'm getting married the wednesday before EVO. :D

Then I'll get bodied the rest of the weekend. :(

Congrats man :)

Xrd AND P4AU for 2k15 #believe. Although BBCP had an amazing showing last year, Arc System Works once again gives us the middle finger by releasing a standalone Extend version that will fracture the community even more.

If melee doesn't make it in to evo I see a bigger rift forming between the smash 4 and melee communities. Some of the prominent figures will probably understand but a lot of people will join the angry pm folk.

Ultra Street Fighter IV
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Mortal Kombat X
Killer Instinct
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Guilty Gear Xrd
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Melee is the bigger game, yet Smash 4 is the one that would get sponsorship from Nintendo. I question the chances of Evo running two Smash games as main events, but I suppose stranger things have happened. Should two anime titles run, Xrd and P4AU seem to be the most likely choices, though the latter seems like less of a certainty. BlazBlue players are apparently dissatisfied with the changes that have come with the arcade Chrono Phantasma 2.0 patch that will serve as the basis for BBCP Extend on consoles, and running two games published by Aksys in the US (Xrd/BBCP or Xrd/UNIEL) would mean not getting additional sponsorship from Atlus since neither P4AU nor KoF XIII would run. Furthermore, the reception to the arcade 2.0 patch for P4AU seems more favorable so far, and there would be no additional content for Atlus to justify a re-release on consoles since it would only be rebalancing what was already there (it was the arcade version that lacked the console characters before now), so no need for players to replace anything. More subjectively, P4AU seems more likely to draw in more viewers on the basis of being Persona than BBCP or UNIEL, even with memories of the former's grand finals from last year still fresh.

All nothing but speculation, of course. I only consider the first five from my list to be locks.

Don't forget Jamie Lee Curtis at this year's Evo too.

Is that actually confirmed? The timing sounds about right though with school ending in late May/early June almost everywhere and EVO being in July. It would be really great to see a legit celeb at one of our events for once.

Guessing for main stage:

Ultra Street Fighter IV (PS4?)
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Mortal Kombat X
Super Smash Bros 4 Wii U
Guilty Gear Xrd
Killer Instinct Season 2

The rest is up for grabs for main stage:
KOFXIII
BlazBlue Chronophantasma EXTEND (comes out in May, would be silly to be a version behind)
Persona 4 Ultimax (I really wish, but I doubt it)
Injustice (lol no)
Super Smash Bros Melee (There's no way Melee will make it over Wii U, but both is a small possibility I think)
