Evolution 2015 lineup to be announced January 20 at 7 PM PST

-SF
-UMVC3
-XRD
-Smash 4 (I doubt were getting melee by itself since Nintendo is involved)
-melee (If evo can fit it in the schedule)
-What ever game NRS pays to get in Kappa
- Killer Instinct BibleThump

I don't think KOF or Tekken will be part of the line up, maybe Persona.

Is that actually confirmed? The timing sounds about right though with school ending in late May/early June almost everywhere and EVO being in July. It would be really great to see a legit celeb at one of our events for once.

Well Kayo is a runway model in Japan. She's friends with big japanese celebrities who regularly appear on television.

Aris can legit say he married her. :lol

Ultra
Mahvel
Moneyhat instinct
MKX
Xrd, praise be
Melee or Smash 4

really want to see P4U 2.0 tho. Tahichi yukari in top 8 pls

I don't see AH3LM on any of these lists...
I know right?
I would seriously consider flying out to Evo if it ever made it :P

In seriousness though, if we're have an eight-game lineup like last year, these are my thoughts:

Probably locked in:

USFIV
UMvC3
Smash Bros. (draws huge numbers but which one? WiiU for current version or Melee for classic? I couldn't choose between them)

Likely:

Mortal Kombat X (the previous one got into Evo in its debut year)
Guilty Gear Xrd (probably the big game from the anime quarter right now, also BlazBlue in the West will be behind unless CP Extend gets a simultaneous release)
Killer Instinct (second season is still pretty fresh)

Outsiders:

BlazBlue Chronophantasma (CP Extend releases in Japan in April, see above as to why it may not make it, not the first time late releases have affected this series's involvement with Evo)
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (it is getting an update this month, could we see a second anime game? I reckon it's more likely than BB at this point)
UNIEL (another interesting anime pick, and is still pretty current)
Injustice (with MKX coming out this year?)
King of Fighters 13 (third year in a row? I dunno, fatigue might have set in from last year)
Skullgirls (keeps getting updated, might be a nice surprise, but again the numbers)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (Namco usually have one representative at Evo and this is the only thing they have at the moment)
Both Smash Bros. games at the same time (it'd be definitely interesting if they did put both WiiU and Melee on)

Slim to Nil:

Any other 3D fighting game (DOA5, VF5, SC5... yeah, probably not, it's mainly a 2D fighters' event)
Any other anime fighting game (let's face it, we probably won't see another Melty Blood moment ever again, sorry my fellow AH3 bros T_T)

If I were a betting man (and I'm not), I'd say USFIV, UMvC3, Melee, GGXrd, P4AU, KI, MKX and TTT2. If they squeeze in another game, maybe Skullgirls or UNIEL? I dunno, that's my two pence on things.

Since I have no idea how many games there will be, I'm just gonna rank based on most likely to least likely. Draw the line where you please, but I drew one anyways:

USFIV
UMvC3
MKX
GGXrd
KI
Melee
Smash 4
----------
KoFXIII (Because the EVO guys just like the game despite it's numbers)
DOA5 (Because they might want to throw 3D a bone or moneyhats)
IGAU (Because it might still pull numbers and/or NRS sponsorship)
P4A:U (Because they might want to throw anime a bone if they have space)
SFV (Capcom promotion opportunity)
TTT2 (Because they might want to throw 3D a bone)

The last few are not far apart in likelihood for me, and Smash can go either way depending on Nintendo's terms.

I won't make suggestions until I know what parties are privvy to certain things. Like for example if Boyes is a power broker, my suggestions would shift greatly. So I will wait and watch.
Also no faith in my peers:E

- Strong chance for no 3D game unless Madcatz/Markman steps up to the plate again.
- Both Smash games are likely. Probably Melee top 8 on Saturday and Wii U on Sunday, 'cause I don't see them scheduling a 6-hour block exclusively for Smash.
- Is EVO sponsored by MS this year? If so, KI is in.
- KOF is out. Doesn't get the numbers and was teetering on the edge last year.
- MKX is in; Injustice a maybe.
- Xrd is in. Who knows wrt other anime games.
- Marvel will continue to be shrugged off as "dead" despite being a bigger draw than the majority of games that make it in.

is the KI scene even thriving? I never hear anything about it beside CDjr winning everything.

It's always gonna be smaller than a lot of fighting games. Western fighting game that's only on a current gen console with no proper last gen stick support isn't doing it any favors.

Agreed with your list. Seeing any of those excluded would be odd.

The announcement I'm most interested in seeing is Melee or Smash 4.

As much as I don't like it, Smash 4 will probably be there instead of Melee. It's the new game and Nintendo will probably be sponsoring - they'll of course want their newest game ran.

I wouldn't be too shocked if Melee got some kind of side event though, similar to PM last year. Just for the views, it's basically free money. They must know about Melee's popularity, didn't it have the second most entrants last Evo?

The biggest reason why Melee has a decent chance is because it doesn't use up the same resources as the other games. It's on its own TVs and consoles (which are still probably available for EVO use); it's just a matter of whether or not there's space and time for it.

I could easily see some kind of compromise being made if necessary, such as 6-minute 3-stock games instead of 8-minute 4-stock. EVO's no stranger to running short sets when pressed for time if they have to.

USFIV
Marvel
Smash 4
Melee
GGXrd
KI
MKX

7 games. This would be a pretty decent lineup all things considered.
This is my guess too.

Anything else would be a surprise or money hat.

Strong chance that this would be first EVO without a 3D fighter.

- Ultra Street Fighter IV
- Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
- Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-
- Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
- Mortal Kombat X
- Killer Instinct
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2

My ideal line-up, though I have a bad feeling that P4AU & TTT2 might not make it (more so the latter). Atlus is a usual sponsor of EVO & they didn't publish Xrd (for reference, we got BlazBlue last year & P4A the year before, both Atlus-published games), hence why I'm a bit more confident in P4AU & GGXrd co-existing.

EDIT: It was KoFXIII that was Atlus-published, not BlazBlue. My mistake, but the point kinda still stands if KoF doesn't return.

Isn't melee still far bigger? If any Smash game draws a crowd its melee and not 4.

That's not how it works. There's no need for melee unless Smash 4 is a complete and total bust. There's going to be a lot of overlapping between players for both games and Smash 4 would draw more new blood.

EVO generally only has room for 1 game per franchise and almost always go with the newest possible iteration.

what if evo does top 4 for melee on sunday instead of top 8? have it on before smash 4 top 8.

apex this year has shown us that there isn't much overlap.

But the fans would riot if Melee was axed. Plus Smash games are almost completely different between iterations, so having both Melee & Smash 4 wouldn't be that weird.

If only one Smash game makes it, it needs to be Melee. I'd rather play 4, but it's just not a spectator sport so I'm worried that if 4 has a poor showing, Smash won't be back at all in 2016. It's just better for the tournament and the community that Melee remains the flagship.

Would love to see both of course.
Don't understand this sentiment.

It is most definitely a spectator sport, especially with the much, much, much more unique and diverse character roster. It's not quite as developed as Melee, but at a high level Smash 4 has a lot to offer.

BlazBlue = Aksys-published, not Atlus. KoF XIII was, but never BB. That said, I do see the logic behind your conclusion.

I just want UNIEL.
Every other game could be Smash Flash 1 and SF x TK, I wouldn't care.
Just give me UNIEL

I've always wanted to try UNIEL back when I saw the arcade videos, looks like a lot of fun to play and watch. Would be cool if the game could get a spot on the lineup.

Anyone know if the game still getting good tournament numbers? I know a lot of people were playing and talking about it in the first month.

wrong

Lol @ people thinking ultra will die the moment V is out, not happening.

even if it lost 80% (as if) it will still outdraw most games.

It's not like evo never run cvs2 along with sf2t, 3rd strike and mvc2 back in the day

It is mindblowing to me that people want two Smash games on the main stage. I couldn't think of a more depressing announcement for an Evo line-up.
