IMO I don't think any Amiibos should be rare. It would be one thing if they were just figures, but they have game functionality and are advertised as such. What was supposed to be a fun way to deepen an experience with your favorite character has instead become scalper heaven. I can't even look at eBay anymore.

Really sad Nintendo won't address this by increasing production.

They pretty much don't give a shit which is incredibly sad. They're probably thinking to themselves that those rare characters are something only Nintendo superfans want and don't bother producing more, but if you are making your toyline only for collectors then you just plain fucked up. I can't imagine how disappointed a little kid has to be if one of their favorite characters in Smash is basically gated off from them right at the beginning due to low stock.

Honestly, I was really hoping that at the end of that Nintendo Direct that Bill Trinen would've said that all rare Amiibos were coming back rather than just Marth as part of a Codename Steam promotion.

I doubt they expected the amiibos to take off as well as they did (lowered expectations is kind of a thing for them these days). With Marth going into reprinting, there may be hope yet.

Amiibo Cards will be cheap and have the same functionality as the figures if you're worried about missing out on content. It's not only about production, but shelf space.

I have pre-orders in for Toon Link, King Dedede, Meta Knight and 3x Rosalina and none have been cancelled yet. Hopefully everything's good.

Regretting not getting Shulk, Mega Man and Lucario though. I like Sonic too but his Amiibo is pretty ugly. I hate taking up space with boxes and shit though.

Where are you at?

That's part of the problem, their scheduling is fucked up. We have waves where separate characters release at random parts of the month. Doesn't help that Nintendo is trying to stuff 50ish characters into stores in a year, but even before they're done with that they've moved onto doing new toy lines. These things have just been poorly planned out from the start which is a damn shame.

I can't see the appeal in the cards at all. Unless the content is really significant I can't see many people wanting to buy them since it doesn't have the same charm as the NFC toys. Might as well just sell it to people as DLC at that point.

Low stock is an understatement. Selling out in minutes with little hope of getting one is beyond unacceptable.

I hope there will be hope! Some other Nintendo merchandise in recent history suggests otherwise but Marth reprint could be the ray of light, especially if the reprint units sell very well.

Personally I feel the figures deepen the experience in way that is a more immersive than just cards, but yeah you're right, the cards will do the same thing. Regarding shelf space, they don't have to be sold in stores. Being available online only would still make them accessible, even if sold out of a warehouse somewhere.

Love your work!

Just preordered myself Shulk and Toad - and even taking into account shipping from Japan, I'm breaking even on MSRP (in Aussie $$$)

THANKS!!

I'm going to get a more concrete answer from Nintendo, but when I asked a Target rep if they'd get any more Amiibo's, they said to just go over to the US.

Nothing final, of course, but something people would like to know.

This x 100000000

I think theres value in training and fighting against your amiibo figure. Fighting against a flimsy card sounds pretty lame, and for me personally, I would never want those.

The cards are inherently flawed since I don't think you can write data to a card. Basically, I'm going to guess that they can only be used for read-only games in which case I doubt a Villager card could bring up the character in Smash and then save them back in. (right?)

Edit: I'm dumb, carry on.

Depends on how well the cards will be. It might just hit me with the Pokemon/Yugioh/Magic nostalgia stick and mean more to me than figures of the characters ever will.

2 questions.

#1. If I preorder something on best buy can I rertoactivly add a gift card?

And #2. If any one has any Japanese amiibos, especially the ones with different names than their us counterpart, if you can cut out the amiibos I would totally like to purchase the card off of you.

Also, we need a pokemon tcg game with amiibos tcg cards.

Why wouldn't you be able to write data? It will have the same chip as a figure-based amiibo. It's not like it would take up any more physical space.

Yeah I think halfway through writing my post I realized my error in regards to that. I was thinking more along the lines of cheap trading cards.

I've never done international shipping before, and it looks like my only hope to get some of the amiibos is by ordering from Europe. Be honest, how bad is my wallet going to hurt?

I ordered 5 amiibos from germany for about $117 which includes everything.

Depends on a lot of things. International Amazons or Japan websites are your best best. Amazon.jp has the best prices IF you are willing to ship to a 3rd party (instructions posted recently).

It also depends on how many amiibos you want. The more amiibos the cheaper cost per amiibo. You can get 5 amiibos from amazon.de /it/ /fr/ /es/ /co.uk/ for about $18 per amiibo.

So ultimately, if you plan on buying a few amiibos, the price isn't really that bad at all. If you want just one or two it's going to cost you.

Using Tenso for Rosalina and Meta Knight. Hopefully everything goes smoothly, first time I'm using the service.

Thanks for the heads up. I've never used international shipping so I suppose I'll try it if I'm out of luck on the rarer amiibos.

Wow. Each amiibo comes up to roughly 15 bucks, so that's pretty steep.

My local store FINALLY received its shipment of the second half of wave 2 and I managed to pick up my Pit preorder. It was the last one, and they told me that they didn't get enough to fulfill all preorders so I was lucky to get it at all.

Apparently Mexicans are second class amiibo citizens because I was also told that their shipments of wave 3 would be late too and to expect them around the end of March

Here the problem doesn't seem to be preordering (most of wave 3 is still available, and the ones that aren't were never up on their site to begin with) , but getting your amiibo at all :|

I second this. Been using Tenso for almost two years, excellent service. EMS shipping to new york takes only 3-4 days its awesome.

Remember, if you miss out on the Amazon preorders for wave 4, you'll definitely have a window of opportunity to get them the next day at GameStop.

Tenso says you need to provide ID and stuff.
I dunno about that.

You'll need to verify who and where you are. Once done, you can use it wherever you want. It's part of the law in Japan. Just scan your ID/license/passport and proof or residence where you live.

According to Japanese law, package forwarding companies like Tenso that receive goods that other people purchase must now perform an identity and address verification check before we can send out items.

The verification process consists of checking 3 things:
・Your name
・Your date of birth
・Your current address.
You can find full information by logging into your My Page.

However, you don't have to wait until identity verification is complete before starting to purchase items. We will hold your items at our warehouse until you complete identity verification.
