Fighting Games Weekly | Jan 19-25 | As Seen On WSHH

i agree. in general i think fighting games are just not well suited to the netplay experience. i'm fortunate enough to have a group of friends who'll play just about everything, but i understand that's not the case with many people.

It depends on the game. Some games are much more lag tolerant than others due to their design. For example, ST is very lag-intolerant, while I think VF is pretty lag-tolerant by comparison. Much of that has to do with input buffers and the amount of quick reactionary things in each game.

Much of what sixfortyfive is saying is right on the netcode stuff from my experience, and I've been doing netplay since before GGPO.

SF5- I really wouldn't be shocked if they try some sort of unique netcode with rollback. The game does have crossplay, and Capcom's going to be pushing hard for SF5 to be an esports game. For that, the online experience is going to be really important- they need folks to be able to play online and get good. Doesn't KI have rollback? If KI can do it, why can't SF?

While part of me envies Ono for getting to design fighting games, he's got a damn tough job this time which I don't envy. He's got to follow up a very successful series with huge expectations, that's one of the hardest jobs in gaming, and I've seen many talented developers fail at it over the years.

I'm just going to go to my default response for this sort of stuff and say that if you're going to engage in a witch hunt, then you better be hunting an actual witch.

I mean that in all sincerity and am not trying to dismiss any party involved. I'll try to read up on it in the meantime.

Being falsely accused of sexual harassment can cause all sorts of damage. One of my favorite developers has had to deal with that over the past few years, and I eat a lot of crap from my SJW friends for defending him, because they still to this day believe all sorts of horrible stories about him, when I know from personal experience that this isn't the case. I've even seen mods on GAF blatantly post false shit.

This much I can agree with. It was weird getting back into VF after trying out SF seriously for the first time because I was mystified on where all of the "VF is hard" stigma came from after doing so. Execution in that game seems piss-easy in comparison (especially after VF5FS throw escapes) as long as you're not using a character who needs to use just frame moves imo.

The three things I want from EVO:

1. Side tournament finals on stage during dead air

2. More streams

3. A very fancy app and some bracket organization that makes watching all the streams feel like watching one stream with a news ticker for updates.

EDIT: 4. Devs reverse their shit and/or speak their native language with a translator.

VF's hard stuff comes in where in should, at really high-level. The biggest execution hurdle for mid-level players is probably breaking staggers.

I mean like in DotA, where no matter how bad you are, you can win by getting carried by others, and you can blame your shortcomings on them too!
Low execution barrier, tons of fighters and win by getting carried by others?

Gundam vs Gundam already exists. Now, if Namco doesn't fuck up RoI...

I want quite a few things from MOBAs in fighting games but not fucking RNG. Keep that shit in TCGs and MOBAs only... do not let that shit infest other competitive games please.

Dude won 2 games in a competitive set of Hearthstone yesterday where the Sneed's Shredder spawned Kel Thuzad... twice! Shit is ridiculous.
Hey man, I didn't complain last time I played GGAC and my friend's Faust threw 2 meteors in a row.

I keep saying that but, I am not sure how many people know what that game is.

Also let's be fair Namco already fucked up RoI.

my default reaction is "fuck Alex Strife", I don't think you realize a lot of the community already despises him/Apex

edit: that's too many people going in on him, there's no way at least 50% of this isn't true

I don't want to put down anyone with a real reason to be upset either; it just doesn't sit well with me that, for example, the top auto-complete for "alex strife" in Google is "alex strife death threats." That colors the lens through which I view other news on the guy.

That kind of stuff is pretty much the extent of my knowledge as someone who only has the most cursory read on the Smash scene, though. I'm not gonna fall on a sword for the guy or anything or try to put down anyone for airing something that should be aired.

I was bored at work, and started to think about Street Fighter 5, which I haven't done yet. A thought occurred; I'm probably not the only one to have had this thought, but regardless:

So, chip damage via blocking normals seems to be a thing in that game. While this does buff offense, it is also sort of an indirect buff to grapplers(and throwing in general).

Tick throws would add a little bit of extra damage, should that be the case. Like, imagine if Abel's step kick pressure did chip damage. That sounds good to me, and should this actually come to pass in SF5, I'll be more interested in playing it.

Personally I'm viewing everything I saw in the SF5 reveal as subject to change or heresay specifically in regard to theories such as just defend.

Agreed )=

Fun fact: without his chair, Beowulf (Skullgirls) takes chip from normals.

Maybe not-anime has to be a requirement...

Uh-huh. So basically Alex Strife is accused of:

1. Being a creep

2. Hitting on them

Both of these are not illegal nor did these people choose to block him on Facebook or whatever. If it's really to the point where you feel you're sexually harassed then go to the police. Don't make stupid posts on twitter and smashbros reddits expecting people to go on some campaign for you.

Also probably a good idea if you're transgender to probably not get so upset over other peoples choice of pronouns.

As of right now I won't be attending EVO this year. That could possibly change, but there are some other places I want to travel. I went by myself last year and met up with some of the gaf crew (QisTopTier, MasterMilk, Smedwicks, shouta, etc.) Everyone I met from gaf was really cool and fun to hang with. So if you've never been to an EVO I would try to go to at least one in your life time. Sitting 10 rows from the front watching finals day was pretty awesome and with the trip.

Well, transporting players though a UHAUL truck is some stupid shit that should anyone involved fired and sue.

It's tough to know where to start, as this is part of many years with a pattern of disrespect, poor decisions, and the inability to hold such a position. I would like to start with Apex 2010. Among many issues stands out, but the one that makes my skin crawl is the transportation of Japanese players to and from the venue and their hotel. Remember that this was the first time Japanese players had traveled to America to compete in a very long time, and the mode of transportation set up for our welcomed guests was via the back of a Uhaul truck. Incredibly unsafe, dangerous, and flat out disrespectful for treating guests from outside of our country to the best display of our tournaments and hospitality. How do I know this happened? I was guilt tripped into being the driver. Looking back at it, I probably should have denied doing this, but as far as I know someone else would have done it. I already discussed this publicly and spoke more on the subject in a mini video series I posted on YouTube in 2011 (Strife starts mostly happens in part 2 at 5:60 through the end):

There are other things in the video about CoT5 and such in the video, but that's not really important now. I originally posted this because Strife felt the need to share his opinion on other TOs, and trash talked myself along with other main TOs, while he's far from perfect himself. To summarize, Alex Strife had Bardull from California unexpectedly rent a Uhaul truck (because Strife lacks his own license), spend all night driving and transporting equipment for him without asking us prior while he stayed at the hotel, and transport international players from Japan and Europe in the back of the Uhaul truck, even while TVs were back there that could fall over on them and cause serious injuries.

Creeping underage girls makes him a scumbag.

Misgendering is something that should be avoided whenever possible, unless you're trying to not out someone.

This is a sore spot with me because some really close friends of mine are trans, and I get pretty protective.

even if it was legal, so what? doesn't make him not a scumbag

Yea man he should totally get sexual harassment charges for telling a 14 year old "I'd go pedo for you;)" 5 years ago.

Definitely. Lock his ass up.
Oh! It was 5 years ago?!

Yea, the guy is totally fine now, nothing to see here, sorry, the girl isn't even a minor anymore and probably used to creeps asking about her bra size by now.

That also doesn't mean you get to continue to run the largest Smash tournament in the country.
