Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

When did Feb 1st become Wave 4 pre order date? Thought that was just the release of Wave 3 at retail stores in NA.

Idk that manager at GS lied to me about preorder date though :( at least he showed me shulk... He was pretty miffed too they had a memo saying they would have the skus to preorder Monday...

I hope they do a reprint of Villager if/when they release Animal Crossing Wii U, I like collecting Amiibo but I can't justify paying above retail price when so many games I want are coming out.

That's not a better option :p

Could be that they used Yodel because I'm down south.

Yes, my experiences with Hermes have been... variable. Villager arrived OK, but with the order before that the courier just opened by front door, chucked it in and shouted something unintelligible. He was off down the path and in his car before I got to the door!

With my Ambassador N3DS , which was meant to be signed for, he just knocked on the door quietly, not using the doorbell, left it against the door and had got back in his van in the 5 seconds it took me to get from my desk to the door. If I was out, it'd have been stolen without a doubt.

I don't think it ever was the pre-release date. Just merely speculation at this point. Any retailer I've asked has merely said soon.

On a different note videogamesplus.ca seems to have all their pages up for each amiibo but says out of stock so not sure if pre-orders went up already for them or they're merely prepping at this point.

Ah okay :)

Lol back to sleep! (Again) damn nowinstock woke me up :p I
I love you guys. Thanks for everything.

You can preorder rosalina on shopto again now, was saying we are no longer taking orders the other day but they must have had a bigger allocation than they expected maybe

"as soon as the manufacture provides the release date usually we will get the items a couple of weeks before for pre order"

This is ultimately what I got from chat. So got nothing. Trying GameStop now.

*wakes up, check AmiiboGaf, sees 6 new pages since last night, freaks out assuming Wave 4 went up, skims thread and sees Amazon trolling people*

Gamestops chat is broken, now chatting with Best Buy.

Pro Tip: Sit in your chat for a couple minutes and you can chat live with a representative. They removed this from the help center, you can only call and email from the help area. Live chat is so much more efficient.

Edit: lol she flat out said I have no idea, ask your local store.

Good luck to you as well! Hoping I get lucky and somehow stumble across the rares that I need. I know that's a longshot, but I'm trying to stay positive.

Bolded for emphasis. You absolutely need to stay positive. If all else fails, this community is fantastic and I've seen several examples now where people have come through for others. I'll keep an eye out for an extra WFT for you.

What's up with Amazon? Now the nowinstock alerts are going to Zelda and not Peach... Peach isn't even listed anymore.

Whew. Good thing I finally got around to ordering her and Kirby yesterday. They don't seem to have Kirby in stock anymore now, either, aside from third-party vendors. Up to $20 already.

Leaving for work now, got about a 2 hour commute between home, pickups, and work. If pre-orders go up, please let it not be for a few hours.

Hm. I used to be an Amazon third-party seller and in the past when this happened in certain categories it meant that they were about to restrict the category and/or item to only authorized resellers. Happened to a bunch of DVDs a few years back. I wonder if the new ordering limits on other sites point to Nintendo tightening the reins on resellers.

What exactly would that imply? Basically if they don't sell at a specific price then Nintendo gets them denied?

Thank you so much! I will be sure to do the same four you :) And yes, that's what I like about this thread. Everyone seems to be banding together, and it's so nice to see that -- especially in an online community!

Well it varies by manufacturer, but take Apple, for example. You're banned from selling or reselling Apple products on Amazon unless you've been licensed/authorized by Apple itself and can provide the necessary paperwork to Amazon proving that Apple has authorized you. When you go to list a restricted item, it explicitly blocks you (and sometimes just doesn't offer the option). This allows Apple to prevent counterfeits, maintain quality control, and lock up the pricing market for good or bad.

So, theoretically, you would have to provide proof that you're sourcing your amiibos/what-have-you direct from Nintendo or its distributors or you're out of luck on reselling. I could quite easily see Nintendo being the kind of company that would do that, as they're very reliant on maintaining price points for their games, and we all know it's quite warranted in this situation.

Edit: I should also note that the reason for removing the old items is that I believe they have to create new listings from scratch in order to build those restrictions into the listing.

Ebay is about to get flooded.

Interesting, perhaps they don't want a repeat of Wave 1 and 2 rares before Wave 3 releases, although it doesn't matter with things like eBay and Craigslist. On the bright side, it will remove the temptation from me to pay $100 to scalpers for the trinity.

Interesting if this is the case. That would surprise me that Nintendo is listening so well, honestly.

Good point, I hadn't considered the timing, but this would be perfect as well. I mean obviously I'm just speculating, who knows, they could be just removing them, but I know for a fact that Peach had plenty of third-party sellers yesterday. I think there's something else going on. The idea of NOA taking proactive steps surprises me too, but they have to know how much money they're leaving on the table.

Toys R Us here in NYC has cleared out a lot of area in the Amiibo stand. Looks like a big shipment of new stuff is coming.

Strange. GAME sent my wave 2 in mint condition, all individually boxed so I feel they are more reliable recently, dare I say.

Everything I've ever gotten from game has just been completely rekt. I've looked up and I'm not the only one to get their item damaged in the same way. Though I am ordering internationally [Texas]...

Texas here as well. The only international purchasing I've done is through amazon.de though. I still haven't received my shipment, but I'm hoping it comes without issue.

Such a liar. Those are EU packaging. He never got 100 from Target, see? We have hope!

If anyone finds a seller with EU Rosalina on eBay and the seller if form Michigan, report it here pls. Pretty sure it'll be from our very special friend.

What made you so sure that he live in Michigan?

It breaks my heart to think that some d-bag is holing up somewhere with a bunch of Rosalina's just waiting to scalp people. I know it's true and it happens everyday, but still... now that I'm invested in amiibo's and this community I don't want to see people get left in the dark.

With you 100%, but part of me feels like it's the consumer's fault. If people exerted self-control and refused to pay over retail, this wouldn't be a problem or at the very least not an epidemic. Stock would be available in stores/online for the most part. Consumers drive this mentality. I can even't blame the eBay auctions that have no reserve, that is 100% the purchasers driving the price. People holding the money have the power yet behave otherwise.
