Fighting Games Weekly | Jan 19-25 | As Seen On WSHH

so why is p4u at evo instead of uniel? from what I've read and seen, the latter has a bigger scene but it always gets unnoticed.

P4U2 and UNIEL scenes are roughly the same in US numbers just at different places and tourneys. It'll be different with the US release, maybe. But Persona is much bigger than UNIEL in Japan.

Melee is going to be #2 this year, isn't it? Holy crap. Hopefully that is enough to get it on Sunday, but I can see Nintendo asking for the new hotness to be played on the final day. Whatever.

I'm gonna try so fucking hard to go to this.

ATLUS sponsorship I'm guessing
RIP in McRibs

It wouldn't also surprise me if the Evo staff thought P4AU community was significantly bigger than UNIEL in the US, even though that really isn't the case. From my experience, their knowledge of non-Capcom communities can be... inconsistent.

Frankly, I think Japan's playerbase should be a tertiary concern, at best. It's cool to have international players, but the vast majority of players at the event are from the US. If we're going that route, then they should have added Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax instead. :p

DFC wouldn't get international players. They'd all be cooped up in their rooms with their waifus.

Honestly I would have preferred UNIEL over Ultimax but if they're close in representation I guess it makes sense to push the stronger IP with a company that's probably more capable of putting out support for it.

I think Japan would have come in and collected money over either game though.

Wafuus.

I actually just booked a room for Evo, come see me in the pit of debauchery and despair that is the poverty anime games corner.

Sad to see Injustice go. Would have been nice to have one more year and to play two games again.

But I'll take only MKX. Kitana top 8 :)

Fate setup? lol
Of course. :x

And Melty, and Arcana, and DBFC, and Aquapazza, and Chaos Code, and HnK, and Sengoku Hime, Phantom Breaker, and EFZ, and Angel Eyes, and... well, all the classics. Plus a whole bunch of games nobody asked for.

No, I don't play all of these... not like I'm any good in anything, anyway. D:

BAN THE TESTERS!!!

Mark Man with the setup from few days ago, lol:
We won't see T7 official arcade units in the US. The way the infrastructure works it won't work if it's imported. It has to be an official release otherwise once the unit runs out of plays that's GG.

This is much better than just doing a T7 exhibition, but I really hope Namco fly a lot of Japanese and Korean players to EVO, I don't want to see day 1 tech in top 8. ;p

Dadwicks and I just booked our room, I better see a bunch of you there.

3rd Evo HYPE

If I can actually make it again this year you better not forget to tell me where you guys are damnit >:V

I want to say that I wiill go, but my situation is different this year so it's harder :/

Still, assuming I can make it, I'd enter Xrd and Smash 4. Marvel is maybe since there should still be people that aren't too good entering, but Persona 4 tournaments have traumatized me enough already...

I know you weren't serious, but I have a hard time imagining competitive level Fighting Climax.

I want to go to EVO so badly. GGXrd, Smash 4, Melee, Marvel... Sure I'd probably go 0-2 in two of those, but damn. It's also about time I started meeting Fighting-GAF offline.

For sure, sorry if I missed you or anyone else last year :(

I'd love to do another Thursday night session in my room this year, but I'll see.

Registration numbers are going to be massive judging by the fact they've been growing every year. SF4 was 1.6k in 2013 and almost 2k in 2014. This year after showing off dat e-sports money for SF5 and Capcom Cup bringing in over 90k viewers at peak internationally I predict 2.2k will be broken quite easily. Melee went from 700 in 2013 to almost 1k in 2014. It will probably bring in as many players as Apex if not more. The only game that might see a slight decline is Marvel. With all those new games like Smash 4, Tekken, and GG I don't know how they're going to have room to do anything in there! Best of luck to the staff. I don't envy them. lmao

The big boost will come in next year with SF5. That's when I think Evo will have to become 4 days, or they're going to have to cut games. Not bothering with Evo this year, next year's a possibility depending on finances.

We can read Prison School there.

lol rhapsody, everyone would be too pure to understand the glory of prison school.
hana is still the best girl.

i might go... if I do I might have a room if my friends don't want to crash along as well

i might do this and borrow some money... I believe a while back someone did the math for me and it rounded about $2000, if memory serves me right, to comfortably attend EVO. That is some money right there...

Looks like I'll finally make it to evo this year. Hype to 1) see it in person and 2) compete in an American tournament!

Poor UNIEL
2.0

Best anime game goes unnoticed again
