I'm not that happy about this EVO lineup to be honest. I know it's complicated but Killer Instinct and Persona seriously? I like both of them but I'm not sure these games would be here if it wasn't all about money since KI didn't have many more entrants than KOF or Injustice ; and Persona did 400 two years ago and I'm not sure there is a real follow of this game now that Xrd is out.

I would have preferred BBCP again to create a followup from the amazing finals of past year. And Uniel as for a game that has 0% support from his editor, it's quite played. Or keeping KOF.

I don't know, I just feel that the choices are now more dictated by payers than community interest in games. I may be wrong but I can't stop thinking this.

Evo lineup is solid. This is going to be a great year.

I haven't played Tekken much since ps1 days and Tekken 7 announcement still has me hyped.

how strong have persona numbers been this year?

I think 90 people to uniel's 120 at NEC. persona had the same amount of entries as uniel at TFC, more entries than uniel at KiT.

If Killer Instinct had more interest than KOF, then why should KOF be at Evo over it?

Killer Instinct had a 44 man tournament at KiT. That was 44 more people playing that game than KOF13.

Stunedge and Xie are flying out the KVO x TSB winners.
Gonna be lots of Japanese this year.
Hopefully those that're already confirmed (Mui, Souji, Mad, a couple more) don't win that.

They're moneyhats for lower attendance games. I don't think one game clearly deserves to be in more than any other, so why not just let the moneyhat in? It's not like Persona is inherently less deserving than BBCP.

Community interest for KI is higher than KOF, I can say this for a fact. The overall player-base and player attendance for KOFXIII is shrinking for a variety of reasons -- KOFXIII is really only big in NA, Japan, and Taiwan from what I've noticed of the game and the Japanese/Taiwanese playerbases alone dwarf the NA playerbase. Very few players are traveling for the game to play in majors. There's no developer support for the game because SNK's already working on 'the next, 3D KOF (whatever that means.)' and there hasn't been any since the Steam version of XIII released. Then there's this odd stigma that certain players (capcom stans lol) the game is relatively unbalanced.

Also KOF matches are LONG. They've always been really long compared to other fighting games. Even smash (which isn't a fighting game.) KOF has had three amazing years in the spotlight. I know people are upset--hell I am, it's my favorite spectator game!--, but if it did return, I'd be more upset because there are games that deserve the spot more. Like KI. Like UNIEL. Like DOA5U (the fact that DOA5U isn't even in says a lot about what people think of the series in general.)

BBCP. 2.0 is already out, and CP Extend won't even release until April in /Japan./ A lot of international players aren't going to want to play the obsolete game, and the fact that Arc Sys is still fucking backwards regarding balance patching I'm really /not/ surprised about BBCP not making it back.

...But I really do believe UNIEL deserves it's spot way more than P4AU.

--

KI gets the support from it's fans, it's developers, and it's publisher. I can see it lasting 2 more years in the competitive scene. I think it deserves more, but you know how it is. I'm glad it's in the spot, haters be damned.

I'm satisfied by EVO's lineup for 2015. Some pretty solid choices all around.

I'm not too broken up about UNIEL not being there. I love the game, but I think a sequel(Under Morning In-Birth?) has a better chance of making it, and I've got a feeling that an UNIEL sequel will come sometime in the future.

Not broken up about Skullgirls either; the side tournament will be good. Maybe Robo-Fortune will release prior to EVO so the game has a full cast?

Imo EVO made the right choice, japanese players will come for P4U2, not for UNEL.

Are we actually going to have P4AU v2.00 by the time EVO happens?

Because if not, the Japanese players might not bother to come for playing a version that is obsolete to them.

I feel like that's the eternal problem with running Arc System Works games outside of Japan, we're almost always out of date because ASW keeps prioritizing domestic arcades over the international audience.

blame where blame is due, I think in this case it's Atlus' fault, not Arc's.

Of course, when this summer JP Arcades are running Xrd #Reload, blame Arc for the low Evo numbers in Xrd tho, lol.

Tekken 7...is a good marketing move, really, but the fact that an arcade only title (It'll be finished by EVO.) gets priority over 3D fighters compared to DOA and that other fighting game that oneida likes is a huge slap in the face.

DOA has been putting in work. It's developers have been continuously supporting it. It's a successful title. It has a pretty sizable playerbase overseas. But nope doesn't make it to EVO, or hell the damn game gets little recognition in a lot of majors.

Says a lot.

I imagine Namco reached out to the Evo2K folks to make this collaboration happen.

Tekken 7 getting priority over VF5FS isn't a slap in the face lol that game is 5 years old and low attendance in the west. T7 is big and new and Tekken has a strong history with evo.

Yeah I would say that having T7 over DOA5 isn't right.

Two Smash games shouldn't have happened either, it should be one game per series.

Is the DoA team doing more than new fetish characters and costumes? That's all I ever hear about. I'm not clear on how slight revisions to a last-gen title trump the inclusion of a fully developed (arcade release) current-gen fighter as worthwhile for the community.

Plus, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, the Bally's event hall isn't as big as the LVH's hall last year? Last year's hall was freaking huge, and it was awesome.

I don't recall 2013's hall being that large.
LVH hall was huuuuge. Bally's definitely isn't that big.

It doesn't say shit other than DOA historically gets very low entries at tournies on a national level. If people showed up and played the game, it'd be in. But they don't so peace out.

I kinda doubt this was really a binary decision, "either Tekken 7 or DOA."

Just spitballin' here but I'd put my money on "sweet, Namco offered Tekken 7 arcade, can we fit it in?"

How fucked up do you expect Nintendo's rules to be on Smash 4?

Probably not very.

I imagine Wizard, whatever Nintendo rep they have (probably Bill, so appreciates competitive Smash) and Smash community leaders will sit down and hash out a solid ruleset and stage list. I think Nintendo knows how important it is to take care of this community.

Okay good.

Because the official 3DS tourney had some fucked up rules.

I think the invitational and 3DS tournament were partially competitive and partially to show off the game and everything it had.

Now that it's out that's not as much a concern.

Now I can only hope they patch in a tournament mode that unlocks all customs and makes equipping them super quick :<
