Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

The way NoA has handled Amiibos over here has been awful. I think because I got into collecting late, it was fun hunting down Wave 1 and 2. But having to actively be collecting BEFORE Wave's come out, is such a shit experience. That's not even getting into Nintendo doing a shit job supplying these, and doing really shitty things like giving away Amiibos to scummy corporations in the NA for exclusivity. I am at a point where I no longer care. So this isn't me like, losing my shit. I'm actually laughing at this. I can't believe how absurdly bad this whole thing is being run.

But I would rather free up my time and money, and not waste my time on this if Nintendo is going to keep yanking us around. I have a gf that will soon be my fiance. I have my trip in Japan in Feb that I have to plan for. Just feels tiresome having to deal with all of this. Having to wait for 3 release dates in all of Feb? No thank you. It's such a joke. Other places can just walk into any store and get Wave 3's with no hassle. But not in NoA -- that would be too easy. :P I figured I would get all of this out of the way Feb 1st, then have some time to wait for Wave 4 in March/April (and I could pre-order those).

I think if you approach this casually (which you should) then, you just roll with the punches and it's fine. I actually have taken up a similar attitude to not care so much. So I'm not angry or upset. More so, just looking at how ridiculous this entire thing is. Even on a casual level, that it requires you to wait and wait and then keep up with the changing dates. Yeah. I'm just done. I'll still go to stores on Feb 1st and try to grab some Extra Rosalina. I will still ship out any Amiibos I've promised to everyone.

But in terms of actively collecting, I think this killed it for me. But it's okay, I have a lot going on (getting engaged soon!). So I'm super happy.

Please don't quit, the best part of collecting Amiibos is helping people out here and sharing info.

basically i'm just gonna keep a very loose eye out and try to snag the ones i want, but i'm not gonna obsess over it like i have been, not worth the stress, if they don't want my money i can spend it on other things
 
For those who pre ordered wave 2 from Amazon, did you get all of the second wave? I had cancelled my wave 2 preorders and got them all from a local toys r us.

On the contrary, I really don't think it's a good idea to tell people stay. Look at Nathan's post for a better worded explanation than I could ever give.

Not saying we don't appreciate you, Azula, but the thread is really taking a toll on you. There's no need to inform; if you want a break, take a break.
 
If worse comes to worse I have a gamecube adapter for trade for Rosalina if I don't get one in store. I'm starting to think I'm just gonna rely on my preorders at TRU and GS...

I put KIU in my top 3 for handheld games of all time. Though that's a divisive opinion, and requires your hands mesh well with the controls. Definitely pick it up though. I doubt it will ever really be cheaper
 
If anybody here gets a chance to check out any of the Toys R Us stores in southern California, let me know. I don't have one very close, but I'm more than willing to drive if there are confirmed Wave 3 sightings.

I do hope it's one of the DOZENS of digital titles Club Nintendo puts up in February but I doubt it.

What doesn't help is regurgitating the same post three times now. This has nothing to do what he's been through. If you're quitting, quit. You don't have to announce it three times. Like I said, it's getting old. That's all.

The manager told her that Nintendo contacted TRU and told them to stop selling them immediately, pull all their stock and not sell them until the release date. But the manager was nice and set a Lucario aside for us and put a HOLD, DO NOT SELL sticker on them and took down our names and number. She said we can pick it up on Jan. 30 (NOT Feb. 1).

Here's a new wrinkle ... the manager said that she understands that people want the rare ones, so she'll also write down that if Pit and Marth come in, they should be set aside for us. But my girlfriend didn't mention Pit and Marth at all ... so maybe restocks of those are coming by the end of this month?

I would ask the question if people could confirm for my area but then I'm certain they would all be gone so... I won't...

What were the pre order slips for then? If I go on Feb 1st and they don't have one for me I'll be pissed, I was like the first to buy a Lucario at my toys r us , the cashier even said it

Aw man, my TRU doesn't have anything like that. They said that their Lucarios would be coming in "hopefully" on 2/1. :/

People post the same thing way more than three times and we don't knock that. "Is wave 4 up yet?" "I hate Nintendo" "is Wave 3 in stores yet?" All these things are constantly said and addressed and people don't bother to read what is said before them.

He's obviously torn about collecting, he wants the Amiibo but hates how it's being handled. If I quit today I would probably be back tomorrow too. It's not that easy to quit the Amiibo addiction haha.

That being said, if you don't want to read his posts, skip it. You don't have to act like your words don't affect anyone because they do. We may not be chatting face to face but we are all still human beings and have feelings.

I wasn't in it for the whole collection. Then I was. Now...I'm not again. I don't have the funds to pay for all of this, nor the space...nor the desire for some of the franchises. Pokémon especially. Nor do I really want Diddy, but I have him because I got caught in the hype train.

So...gonna sit back, sell a few commons (unboxed, so probably for $10 per) and not stress about it anymore. I still want to hunt down a Meta Knight and a Rosalina & Luma in the US.

Stopped by Toys R Us just to look around and they had Lucario, Shiek, Bowser, and Toon Link. Saw them with my own eyes behind the counter but couldn't buy them. February 1st is the day.

When people in this thread have been equating Amiibo collecting to drug addiction, telling somebody not to quit is the worst possible advice you can give. Quit. Go enjoy doing something else that isn't going to create an unnecessary burden for you.
 
I guess the manager said a few Lucarios got sold (including to Joei, apparently) and other TRUs around the country were selling them, too (as substantiated by other GAFfers like Dr. Black Jack) but Nintendo found out and ordered the company to stop immediately. A couple other customers came in and tried to buy them and threw hissy fits when they were denied. (My girlfriend, of course, was gracious, so the manager was cool and put one on hold for her.)
