Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

WTF did Amazon just change the layout of the Amiibo pages? I used to be able to view them all on one page, but as a few minutes ago it appears each character has it's own individual page.

Edit: When I pre-ordered sonic it said Feb. 28th but I just received an email confirmation saying March 11th.

Sorry man. Friend ran back to the store and it was gone :(
I honestly expected that but thanks for checking, much appreciated!

doowrah pls

In amiiboGAF, we preorder first and cancel later. You'll have plenty of time to think about how bad he looks when he goes for 2x-3x the price.

Ugh, I'm really not interested in a full collection or reselling online, but I placed a preorder for him just in case someone else here misses it and needs a blue blur

Couldn't wait any longer so I ran to Tru after work and snagged King Bowser. Second to last one they had. Damn he looks cool. All shieks and toon links were already gone.

Well I went last night to the Huntsville Toys R Us, and the very knowledgeable lady said they were allowed to sell Toon Link and Bowser, but they hadn't come in yet, and that I should call at 10:00 this morning.

Well I did that, and the guy I talked to had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. He had never heard of Shiek, and didn't know what Toon Link looked like. He said, "Is that like an anime Link or something?". Anyways, he couldn't find any of them, so he told me to try again later...

All this talk of scalpers buying up 50 and 60 figures seems discouraging on the surface, but it actually makes me think we're nearing some sort of end of the bubble. Once people like that start getting into the game it becomes even more obnoxious but the fate of the secondary market is pretty much sealed. Smart money probably got out with wave 2.

An artificial shortage is still a shortage. It will depend on how many buyers there are, how much stock is out there, and how much people are willing to pay.

It doesn't sound to me like there were more Sheik at these Toys'R'Us than Villagers for example. With more scalpers, the problem could very well get worse.

True, I'm just thinking of the knock-on effect when people like the genius in SalvaPot's post end up holding the bag on all those Bowsers. Some people get smarter, but the majority give up. Short-term, yeah, you're right, it could still get worse, but I don't think it's going to sustain itself for more than a wave or two more.

Brandon/Tampa FL...TRU had nothing special.
In case any local peeps are curious

By nothing i mean, nothing rare or new. Just the typical crew

I don't believe your cousin is telling the truth. No one else on here has seen any of wave 3 in NA outside of TRU. Lucario maybe, as there's evidence of that, but no way is Rosie out there yet.

Not that my case is the last word, but I zoomed to Target right after reading that (I work about two minutes away from a Target) and there was no Rosalina.

There's anecdotal evidence of people giving up, yes. You have to determine whether demand is there because people really want the items or not. It being very hard to find Little Mac didn't dissuade me because it's a really cool looking figure. Most of the figures that come out are really cool looking.

In the end it's all about supply and demand. I don't see the return period scalpers have access to killing the market.

We may be misunderstanding each other, I was talking about the scalpers getting discouraged, not the buyers. I guess in the end it's a factor of whether demand stays strong (so far that appears to be the case, not disagreeing with you there), the supply (which to me is the real X factor), and the number of scalpers jumping into the game. I was just talking about the third factor, though you have a good point about the return period and it's something for which I hadn't factored. I'm used to dealing in vintage goods where we don't have that kind of luxury.

The whole thing sucks as a collector, but it's fascinating to watch from a market perspective.

PS Sweet avatar, hope we go all the way this year.

Seems if you live in Southern Ontario and can make the drive to Buffalo, you can pick up some Wave 3s from Toys R Us in Amherst, NY.

Thanks as well to the people who noted that Sonic was back. Wasn't worried about getting him, but better safe than sorry after finding out that Sheik is a rare.

You guys with toysrus selling early are lucky none of 6 stores in a 100 mile radius of here got any in except the one store that sold my preorders to other ppl :(
Speaking of them selling my preorders early is there anything I can do about that?

Shelf in a local store. Fun fact: That was once the PSP/Vita shelf. You can still see some games on the far left.
This is the same Store on the evening of launch day, just from a different angle. It's hard to make out stock changes but i think they sold at least 2 Rosalina. Not bothering to count the other 5 because they all seem really common:

And while I'm at here's some more stores I visited today:

This one got no new stock because the delivery from Nintendo got delayed:

The only way scalpers can get discouraged is with constant, spaced restocks. For a scalper is easy going on day one and buy 30 figures of each to later resell in the next two weeks and then return what is not sold. But if the same figure its getting constantly restocked every few days, even if its just 10 figures instead of 30, then the scalpers has to be there almost everyday, wasting time and gas in something he has no awareness of.

This happened with Zelda, Diddy and Luigi. At launch all this figures where almost impossible to find because scalpers went and bought all of them, even if they had lost. But then they where getting constant restock at a pace a scalper couldn´t be bothered to follow in a cost-effective way. So now Zelda, Diddy and Luigi are selling for SRP easily enough.

So constant restocks is the way to go. All 4 exclusives are the greatest risk, because they ARE going to be scalped at launch, and the ARE going to sold out at first. I´m fairly confident Lucario and Rosy is going to get restock at least one more time, but meta and shulk I don´t think so...

The fact that sheik seems uncommon means Nintendo has NOT addressed the issue of making more figures, they had only 3 for godsake and this is a Zelda character. We need to help each other to get the figures we need, so far I´m good as long as my Sheik does not get cancelled by BB, but I was not expecting her to be rare and this bothers me.

Any sightings of Wave 3 in Canada?

Was just at one, didn't appear to even have pegs for them.

The cashier at EB Games told me hopefully Wave 4 preorders will start next Friday. I also asked if there would be additional Shulks for non-preorders and she said she hoped so because she never got in a preorder either. The struggle is real.

Ah, the old stomping grounds when I went to Christopher Newport.

---

I just ordered Sonic. On the fence with Bowser...

*looks forward to having a shelf with Samus, Pit, Mega Man, Sonic, Ness, Toad, *edit* and how did I forget you Pac-Man?*/edit* in the next few months... and maybe Little Mac if I give in and pay 3X MSRP on ebay.

Ah nice! I have lived here for a while. Not a bad area.

wow man, I'm so jealous! wish I could find a marth & rosalina.

I have to admit I'm baffled by Sheik, I didn't think that was going to be a rare. I keep hoping that there are signs of Nintendo bumping production up, but it may be a pipe dream. Regardless, I think you're right, we're going to have to work together on this.

Anyone care to shed some light on why Yoshi, Kirby, Samus and Peach are the only ones you can add to cart on Gamestop's site? Maintenance or something else?

Chill peeps. When luigi and Zelda came out, they were thought to be rare. Within a week or two, they're common as heck. Diddy same thing. Now figures like Pit and Little Mac, those are legit rare. Many have never seen them in person at all. Scalpers are just buying all the Sheik, gona sell for a quick but small profit. For now he's uncommon, I wouldn't say rare. Only one store has begun to sell them too.

Oh and if Amazons around the world start selling out of Sheik then I'd start to panic

I'm going to keep babbling about my MLBiimo idea.

Nintendo could make a new Mario super slugger baseball game, and as part of the promotion get MLB to fund a pack-in for the Face of the local team's franchise in the box.

Then the team's can sell additional figures in their team stores (they already sell a bunch of crap).

And have the game launch with the "Hall of Fame" collection based on the first Hall of Fame class:
1. Ty Cobb
2. Babe Ruth
3. Honus Wagner
4. Christy Mathewson
5. Walter Johnson

Trust me
please MLB
when I say this is a safe investment.

It's really silly that they are stuffing the store shelves with the Mario, Link, Peach, Pikachu, etc commons this time of year.

I feel like they were flying off the shelves because of the holiday season and now it makes sense to ship more of the uncommons from wave 1 and 2 again instead of more commons.

Like take half the reshipment of Marios and make them be Marth, swap peach for wii fit, yoshi for Villager, Pikachu for Pit, and Link for Little Mac.

Makes sense to me

No one thought Luigi and Zelda were going to be rare.

I agree for Diddy Kong though.

I'm in line right now grabbing a drink, there was nothing left. Went to the wrong one and got set back an hour. Supposed to go over to his place, I'll try to see if he had his receipt or not.

He also had Lucario across the street, so I'll head to that TRU. He sent pics I swore he imported. But he wouldn't send me on a ghost chase.
