Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

Pretty sure both demand and scalper count is higher now than ever... Its not Zelda as a series ever lost many fans and its only made new ones as the years went on. Pretty Nintendo hasnt figured out that part though...

Yeah they are definitely both at peak numbers. I really hope NoA is coming up with some way to curb the scalping problem. There's no way that they don't realize it's a problem, and they aren't helping the market one bit.

I still feel dirty that I supported a scalper for the Hyrule Warriors LE. I had no choice, but I'm a hardcore LE collector. (Sad that I got it at peak price, and then it started deflating right after and the price went down with it... I thought the price would keep going up due to the low numbers of them existing.) Those Nintendo World Store exclusives were a dirty move. Just glad that you can buy localized Pokemon goods on a website,at least.

Also as I am ranting and upset at nintendo I am laughing because look at this sweet deal I got from BB on clearance wii u games and GCU stacked ha

Were you one of the unlucky that got your Majoras mask 3ds console cancelled? Did Best Buy send you a $50 credit? I'm very sorry if you are, I would be just up in arms in that situation.

Im just a hardcore Zelda collector Im only 26 but I have an open and sealed copy of each zelda game and le system from the Nes till now. If that tells you anything.

I'm not too knowledgeable on the relations between the manufacturer and retail, but if Nintendo knew the supply was limited couldn't they issue a limit on 1 per customer to the stores? Anyways though, you are right. I expect rares for Wave 3 and beyond to be worse than the first two waves solely because now the news is out.

Thinking about the Sheik rarity at Toys R Us, at first I thought it was great because now that we know it is rare, it gives us a chance to get prepared and try to find them once they appear at other stores. However, that is definitely not the case since scalpers now know exactly who to look for. I don't want to give up on Sheik this early, but I think my chances are pitifully low by this point. That character being a rare is something I don't think many of us guessed due to her association with the Zelda series. Now watch Ike be a common just to fuck with us all.

I take nothing as gospel early on. Remember when people speculated Luigi and Zelda were rare just because they appeared first and sold quickly?

Okay I hope I am not posting 3 times in a row but I had to share this: did I miss this discussion?
Today, that all changed. Amazon listed the Mario Party 10 Bundle, and there is your confirmation…

“For a limited time, the only way to play with the Mario Party Mario amiibo included!”

So it all makes sense. The Mario Amiibo in the Super Mario Bros. line will be a time exclusive to the Mario Party 10 Bundle

Our friend over at Amiibo Inquirer (he lurks he told me ha, no account yet), has this article http://www.amiiboinquirer.com/2015/...amiibo-timed-exclusive-to-mario-party-bundle/

So that's why therE is no mario Amiibo page on Amazon for the new line and all others have them. ha seriously wtf. I don't like the red bases so I was only grabbing Toad but that's crazy. A 60 dollar amiibo?

Yep. Splinter Cell is a great game and is only $9.99 at Best Buy (even cheaper with the Gamers Card)

Rayman is also awesome

They're the laziest possible way to pretend that they care about the US market. Oh, hey, a preorder item that we're just passing out in other countries? Sure, you can have that. Just go to NYC and line up outside of our store on launch day. Baffling stuff.

Shoot Memphis is BARREN as far as Wii U buyers go. We got tons of scalpers but I still have Gamestops around here with Sealed copies of BOTH the Metroid Prime trilogy and XenoBlade... Not to mention several LE Wii U games... Nobody has wii U here.... But amiibos be gone in 5 minutes....

Never felt that way with Luigi and Zelda since when they were released pics were going out of them being all over shelves. Diddy Kong did have that issue though where he was getting low stock before coming back in larger numbers.

Dammit, JUST missed Little Mac at Walmart :(

Are the product pages reappearing when he comes back in stock? I'm not even seeing an out of stock page for him at Walmart, GameStop or Best Buy... just doesn't turn up at all.

edit: oh, nvm, I see. Linked from the tracker.

Nah I didn't have one ordered thankfully. Just some left over Christmas GCs. We had Rayman on PS3 but traded it in when we got a ps4 and Wii U, so I am glad to be able to pick it up for so cheap again. Splinter cell was 8 bucks lol. I have a sickness where I have to buy physical wii u games when that cheap. Got ninja Gaiden for 7 at walmart. Haven't opened it and I haven't heard great things but 7 bucks! At least I get more club nintendo points which is a cool service they wouldn't mess up right?! Oh wait..... ha I am kidding I am sure they will improve it for us just like credit card companies always make their reward systems better ha. Okay I will leave NOA alone for a few hrs while I watch Tusk.

Collectors come in all sorts of tastes! I only collect NA LEs which was why the EU edition wasn't an option for me. However, I open mine up and eventually play them when I get time.

Maybe he could get approved by a mod early to come chat with us? Or is that more reserved for game devs?

It was beyond stupid. They seriously underestimate Zelda's popularity here. The fact that it was common in EU made it pathetic. Why do we need to scramble? How does a region with a smaller population get more in stock?? (Well, considering the size of each invididual country). It baffles me.

Ok, so for those who don´t open the article, it says that the mario amiibo is a timed exclusive for this particular Mario Party 10 bundle. What this means:

-Mario amiibo is not going to be available as a standalone for a while.
-All others amiibos are going to be sold as standalones at launch.
-Nintendo is aware of the Amiibo demand... and its willing to take advantage of it.
-Nintendo can start making this type of time exclusive amiibos more often, for example making Marth or Lucina a bundle with Codename STEAM a timed exclusive or even the only way to get it.

So, Pros and Cons.

Pros
-This will encourage people to buy more games, and is a plus for those who wanted to buy the game anyways. In this case, a cheaper amiibo that it happens to be a timed exclusive.
-The higher cost means its less likely to be scalped and easier for Nintendo to produce. The Mario Party bundle was available today for a few hours in amazon, even after the news of it been timed exclusive broke.

Cons
-It forces consumers to buy games hey might have not been interested on otherwise.
-There is still a lack of communication, since the whole timed exclusive thing was not mentioned before.
-It still sold out in less than a day.

All in all, the fact its just a timed exclusive is a good thing, and this is mario party, it should be easy enough to find.

No you didn't, it was a false positive from nowinstock.net.

That site is beginningb to be more trouble than it's worth.

Man, both false alarms, and really REALLY late alarms, like with the Sonic Preorder on Amazon.

This thread being more useful for locating rare amiibos is rather stressful overall.

Good thing I'm interested in Codename Steam, otherwise I would be pissed if Marth's return was as part of a bundle.
I will still miss the preorders.

I missed this in the Mac frenzy. This is just appalling. I think this finally killed my interest in getting any more of these. And I only have one!

I can wait on that Mario Miibo. It'll 99% be a common one later, anyways, plus I've never been a fan of Mario Party.

Imma be patient with that one.

I collect all LE's too but my main focus is and will be zelda although im making good progress on Dragon Age got all those too... I mostly focus on Zelda though and to a slightly less extent Nintendo... I have tons what most call rare gems in my collection as it seems always now though im not at home to take a picture...

So with the current amiibo coming out and then Mario party line...
LETS discuss the future whats NEXT for Nintendo?

Honestly I believe the next line will either be
A. Star Fox to coincide with the games release OR
B. Zelda for Zelda U...

What about you guys?

Those have been the best guesses. I would LOVE a set for the new Fire Emblem though :) Gimme... That new female character looks great.

Yeah I wish I kept all my Zelda games through the years. I do have a mint LE ocarina of time for n64. I hear it's worth a good amount.

I played the original NES Zelda 1 & 2 when I was 5 and I was hooked. I could never beat part 2 but recently I played 1 & 2 and beat em, much easier as an adult

Honestly I was going to get the game and I had no interest in that Amiibo. So this would have been one of the weird situations were I would have got a free bonus for real. However they sold out. I was going to buy my game through BB though as I have GCU. if you look on BB they don't have the bundle as the pic so it must truly be exclusive to Amazon. This surprises me as Nintendo and Amazon haven't been best of friends in the past. This is crazy because instead of that mario figure being common like we expected it will now go for a premium at least for a while. I have no confidence that Nintendo will share the length of the exclusivity which is pretty shitty. At least they didn't bundle Toad with extra copies of Capt Toad. I would have cried since I already own that game. I have a weird feeling that Marth reprint is going to get the same treatment. How odd that they didn't say anything about Villager or WFT when they know what the holy trinity is to us. It makes me think they have specific plans for him. I am not a conspiracy theorist but damn Nintendo for having me trying to figure out this riddle. It's not suppose to be this hard Reggie! You make product (enough for all of us) and we give you money!

As much as a Peppy amiibo would thrill me, at this point I'm just hoping and praying someone will develop an Android app that'll successfully spoof them so I can scoop up a cheap NFC-enabled phone and reap the benefits without the "fun" of collecting. I had an easier time getting a PS2 during its launch month with no preorder than I have getting ahold of Little Mac. There's something terribly wrong about that.

I was thinking a shared Wave of Star Fox and Splatoon on Summer, then Zelda on Winter.

Nintendo NA does whatever the heck it wants. It would make me laugh if they didn't release any Mario party Amiibo seperatly. Want to collect them all? You have to buy a game with each freakin character! Don't like it? Well you can't play Mario party on your ps4 so ;P

But yeah, GET OUT OF THIS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE! Your wallet will thank you.

I would tend to agree with that I just dont know about how the characters in games like splatoon would be shown? Its the same with the Mij fighters IMO also I just dont see them making that many different ones for that... I mean maybe money potential is there for sure but on a new untested in market IP? Idk i dont see it but idk maybe I do lol.

I REally wish MarioKart would've gotten one... :/

It's easy to come up with games we want mini-statues for. Try coming up with games we want incredibly small memory cards for...you know, the primary function of Amiibos. Lots more difficult.

I'm really hoping for a Zelda line. I already have all the Zelda based ones released so far except Toon, and will preorder Ganon as soon as it's available, but will still gladly get the Zelda series ones.

But what I'm hoping for is that they increase the functionality of these things. These figures are not cheap and while I have made my share of purchases, I can't help but admit that they're severly lacking in use. What I've used them for, Hyrule Warrior money and an exclusive weapon, and a few costumes in MK8 doesn't justify the cost to me, although they do look pretty cool by my other Wii stuff.

Ha, as I was typing my post you pretty much stated what I wanted to say. I think the appeal of these will die off outside of collectors if they continue to have such limited use.

It was an Amazon exclusive. It sold out pretty quickly and never came back in stock. Here's a few quick pictures I just took.

h2m8o2x.png

Unfortunately pretty much every copy was dinged in the corner during shipping. Mine got it pretty bad but I don't care.

It wasn't an Amazon exclusive. They sold it at Barnes and Noble as well. People got screwed then as well because B&N ended up cancelling everyone's orders and then making it available sometime later for order in store.

I ended up with two copies of the LE edition, one from Amazon and one from B&N.

Really? Interesting. I guess I forgot about that. THE CANCELLATIONS *shudder*

People complain about Nintendo's limited stock right now and how stores are handling things, but this stuff was happening back then too. Either Nintendo keeps giving stores a higher estimate of stock than what is actually received or these stores just don't know how to handle the distribution of LE/high in demand items. It's really frustrating. :( I don't want to spend half my life stalking a webpage hoping for that 30 second opportunity to purchase a Nintendo product.

It's too bad this kind of thing only seems to be an NoA problem, or else I'm sure they'd get eaten alive at their next shareholder meeting. I highly doubt anyone involved with NCL cares too terribly much about foreign problems considering how long this has been going on.

Haha wow I remember these. I ordered 15 or so from different retailers because I didn't want to miss out and I wanted at least one to turn up in good condition. Over half of them were cancelled because Dark Horse fucked up so badly with stock, but I got 7 I think including about 5 that were in great condition.

With all the stories of cancellations, I'm pretty sure that most b&m stores that have an online store, suck at the whole e-commerce thing. You would thing Walmart would have an amazing site, given their success. Nope, crappy site with constant screw ups :/
