Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

Oh ok cool I can see that doesnt bug me I guess cause I like to help others out. :/ maybe we should make a separate amiibo B/S/T thread...

It would get less visibility that way. I really don't mind it the way it is, I just don't want others to feel like they have to self-censor. More discussion is better than less is what I was trying to get at.

I see nothing wrong with helping others out, but I find this to be more of a community thread than one on the figures sometimes. Seeing people give away figures or ask for figures from people doesn't interest me. Neither does using amiibo to pay bills, but this thread is for all comers to this point.

I'm happy for you guys when you get the figures you want, but B/S/T is clutter to my particular interests.

Problem is, this thread is a giant umbrella for all things Amiibo, talking about them, admiring them, and also helping others find them, reporting of stock and etc. I suppose other threads could be creating for particular portions, but at this point would probably just be redirected here.

Ultimately, everyone here seems nice and I love seeing pictures of pickups and the lowdown of new figures and info.

so I went to the Target in my area, and asked the Electronics department if they knew they were still getting Rosalina.
They said that they didn't receive any in their shipments today, and it was their last scheduled shipment.....

looks like ordering online it is!

Plz don't take this the wrong way.

Ok what does discussion mean to you?

To me, it's talking about news, asking for help, talking about collecting, gathering input on current issue, stock and where at, methods of getting amiibos, stories of loss and victory ect...

Not "hey guys look at what I'm selling at a mark up"

Anything about amiibo's is fair game.

Talking about what amiibo's your selling at a mark up is much more on topic than people chatting about their personal lives which goes on here a lot.

Well, when you put like that.

I guess it's just my general hate of the subject of scalping that makes me not even want to discuss it.

This is a thread where the vast majority of people are having difficulty finding these items due in no small part to the actions of scalpers. Bragging about and posting pics of your "haul" and posting about much money you hope to make scalping is very insensitive to the people here.

I can understand that posts like that can be frustrating for a lot of people but I don't think it's right for people to be telling other people that they shouldn't be posting just cause they don't like what they're posting about. It's still on-topic and scalping discussion is allowed on gaf.

I agree with you. Live and let live, as simple as that. If you don´t agree with the guy is ok, if you do its also ok. If someone buys the figures he offers and its happy that is fine too.

All in all, this place should be a home for everyone.

Right, but as they said, with everyone tying to get Amiibo for their personal use and for their personal collection, it's incredibly tacky to say, hey those ones you want? I have them and am going to sell them for a nice profit. And yes, you're right, this is Americuh or whatever country you're from and if you wanna talk about selling them, then that's your right. And it's also our right to say quit being a dickface, no one wants to hear that shit.

Can you imagine if someone went into to the Majora 3DS/Majora LE thread and did something similar? Yeahhh... Would not have pretty results.

Yay! I was able to change topics!

Anyway, what is that about gamestop getting all their shipments late? And how is it we got news of people already reporting Shulk is already at the stores? Its just confusing.

Also, the whole Sheik situation has me worried, I really REALLY did not expect her to be a rare, like hotdamn, this changes everything.

Just going to throw my 2 cents in on this. People should be allowed to post whatever they want within the rules. Most in this thread, myself included, hold disdain toward scalping Amiibos as they are in short supply and very popular. That doesn't mean we should censor members, people and posts can be ignored.

Additionally, some people claiming this thread is here to help, etc are massive hypocrites and I know first hand. I've contacted several regarding extra Amiibos they have via PM many would only sell at a marked up past retail price, or trade for an Amiibo more rare than the one in question. Even people posting in here tonight claiming we stick together, help each other out, buy and ship Amiibos at cost, etc are the very same ones. You know who you are. I am by no means implying this applies to everyone in this thread as I have also encountered the opposite - people trying to help others, selling uncommons at cost, and facilitating giveaways.

I guess my point of this post is some in here really need to check what they are saying about others or at least take a good look in the mirror first.

Welp. I have really bad habit of trying for argue both sides. So I'm taking the stance of disagreeing with scalping.

I've said my peace, I wash my hands of this subject till it appears again in later pages of this thread. I'm betting this discussion will continue on for a while anyway.

Edit: "to" was meant to be "for"

Ouch >< sorry to hear that. More sadden by the fact that it happened here.

I'll just tell my quick story about how helped some one on this thread and go back to playing Gravity Rush.

Anywho. I had an extra pit. I threw the offer out there and after a couple of days some one to me up on the offer. Seik's preorder for pit had been canceled and I sent him a pm saying hey I got an extra. He lived in Canada and myself in AZ. So I quoted him a price of 23.50. 13 for the Pit Amiibo and 10 for the shipping. Welp shipping actually costed around 18 bucks after everything was said and done. I just sent a the pm saying "hey shipping was a little more than I thought it be but meh it's all good as long as Pit make it to you I'm fine with that"

Point being here is I'm not helping/selling to make a profit. I'm doing it because I love amiibos and I want to share it with people. And that what I want to promote in this thread as well. Helping others. Just not for profit.

And I'm just sitting here not watching anime anymore and getting ready to sleep still hoping to get a Lucina preorder whenever that happens.

There's no need to argue with both sides

If for some reason they become available overnight, I'll place an extra pre-order for you. <3

I'll be up for a while watching Twintails.

I really don't care if GAF users come out and say they're scalping since I would rather they do that than try to pass themselves off as people who want the Amiibos for their own enjoyment. I know emotions are high, but it is best just to ignore it.

I will say that it will affect how I communicate with others about Amiibo availability. If I find stores in my local area that have rares, I will be PMing Gaffers I trust that I know frequent the same stores, so that they get the information first and have a better chance at getting Amiibos than lurkers and those trying to make a profit.

We all like money and of course we all want to make at least a little bit more of what it cost us to get them. I think I am one of the few who openly admits reselling them (Running a store and all) and I had no one calling me out or accusing me of being scum. I don´t know if its my charming personality or my amazing avatar picture, but somehow I´m accepted here and I really feel this is a second home.

Don´t you guys realize that this attitude of accusing others, calling them names and shutting them down is the absolute worst? Of course there is people that are taking advantage of the situation and of course there are real assholes out there, but if we can´t trust this community, then what is left? Only ourselves, really.

This is a hobby forum, we all are collectors. Even the people that claim to be just casual collectors are lying to themselves. How many of you have opened their boxes? Not that many, because we are thinking of their future value and not about their worth as simple stupid toys.

"Amiibo Discussion Thread", this is what its called. Let´s discuss, but be polite and reasonable. If you thing the other guy is an asshole don´t get down to its level, and don´t take anything as a personal offence, again, this are just material stuff. Money comes and goes, amiibos will too.

For the record I think everyone here is great, I even wished Good Luck to the guy who posted the haul he was trying to sell on amazon, why? Because its his decision. And the fat guy that beat me to all those figures on the TRU yesterday? Yes, I was angry, but he had the money and got there first, so its on him and I´ll be childish and stupid to hold a grudge.

Didn´t we learn anything from Azula and ThisBeJason? We share a passion for this toys, and that passion is so strong we even get upset and angry at the people that get in our way to get what we want. But lets not become monsters or jealous children in our pursuit for it.

You all made amiibos so fucking successful NoA doesn´t even know how to react, Nintendo is back on the map and its going strong.

And I have a headache right now, but I care so much about you guys that I wrote all this stuff.

So TL:DR: have a look at mah bunnies.

HEY GUYS, LOOK AT MY BUNNY.

You think that's cute? I have a puppy at my feet.

UXOgT28.png

Anyway, Thursday is supposed to be the official release date for wave 3 here in Australia and thankfully I don't work until 5:30pm, so I'll be getting to the shops early to try and find me a Bowser, Toon Link and Lucario. I'll be grabbing any of the others I want too if I haven't recieved a dispatch email from my preorders. I'm a bit paranoid about them being cancelled, especially Shulk D:

My opinion is screw scalpers. They are causing markups prices we otherwise wouldn't have had to pay.

I'm almost equally disappointed when people shell out to scalpers. Don't enable them, making the demand lower, prices drop, then there would be less scalpers.

Also my point of view on scalping is don't fuck someone on GAF with it. If you have extra and can make a few bucks do it, but don't try and do it to someone here. I know what it's like to scrape by and remember selling games and shit on eBay that I knew were expensive. I don't really like the bragging but I won't tell anyone to not post like that.

Has anyone in here used their Amiibos? I used them for MK8 and Hyrule Warriors. I actually use them almost everyday for HW. I'm hoping they get some better functions later though, to at least help justify the price. I'm curious how they're going to use them for MP10, not that I'll buy it, no interest in the MP games. But I'm sure a lot of their big releases from now are going to have some Amiibo use. As much as people like collecting them, Nintendo can't sustain having them out if they've got such limited use. Like, what can these things add to a Mario game, or Zelda game, or Fire Emblem game that makes their production and price justified?

Good luck with your orders!

No worries M1nion, it didn't bother me in the least, people have a right to buy and sell as they choose. A bit unbecoming though, that some who threw negative shade on it behaved in a similar manner when the opportunity presented itself.

Very cool of you to cover the additional shipping charge, I'm sure the buyer appreciated it also. There are a lot of cool people in this community and I'm glad to be here.

Yep, I've trained up a Pikachu in Smash Bros, unlocked some Mario Kart costumes and gotten some stuff in Hyrule Warriors. Gonna get Captain Toad when the Toad Amiibo comes out and scan him in that, and I'll use my Kirby for that new Kirby game coming out next month.

I do generally prefer the Amiibos with more value (the ones that do interesting things in more games) so I hope they keep adding functionality to games as they come out. It makes Amiibos kinda feel like the DLC that keeps on giving.

But even setting aside the NFC functions for a moment, Amiibos are nice figures, many of them of characters that normally never would get merchandise, and that justifies the cost to me. The DLCish functions are icing on the cake.

I don't really have the context for the discussion that's taking place in this thread right now (it's a little hard to keep current with a 134 page thread) but I just wanted to share my current small collection of Amiibo.

6NGd1nA.jpg

That's every Amiibo that I need for Hyrule Warriors and I'm aiming to get about 4-5 a month. This is my haul for this month and I might get 1 or 2 extra in February as I have my birthday then. I'll probably also end up stalking Target to get Rosalina a week from now on Sunday. I must admit, I'm more into the collection aspect of getting them than I thought I would be and I love having them. Really good quality!

The thing I really don't get about scalpers is ...like....is it really the easiest way to make a couple extra bucks?

Driving around, searching, showing up to every store at opening, buying them all up...it's a lot of work. You buy a bunch of $13 amiibos, and sell them for what, $30? $40? It's money yeah, but it's not that much money. You'd think people with that much time and energy on their hands could figure out a better get rich quick scheme than this. Or actually do something productive that helps people. Get an actual second job or something.

Nice set. Kirby and Zelda are two of my favorites!

Welcome! You just came in at a bad time because tensions are running high with scarcity and the release of new figures, but don't let that dissuade you from being part of the community.

When Amiibo were announced I was so annoyed because of an irrational fear I would be spending too much money. I told myself I wouldn't be getting any, then told myself I would only get DK, then on release date for Smash bought 3 Amiibo. It snowballed from there to say the least. I'm just so impressed with the figure quality of a lot of the characters at 13 bucks.

Hey just FYI, there is some speculation that Rosalina will be arriving in Target stores on 1/30 which would be next Friday. No one is certain they will be out on the floor for sale on 1/30 but it is a possibility, and so is 1/31. If you really want one you may want to consider the possibility of checking those days also. The info is in this thread several pages back, from Target employees.

The profit gap seems to be closing further on eBay, I've been watching what specific Amiibos sell for and the big payouts are declining. The trinity still fetch the most, but now people are starting to pair up rares like Pit/Fox, Pit/Fox/Little Mac, etc to get the sales. No one is really buying the Bowsers/Toon Links Sheiks for any significant profit margins whatsoever and that's a good sign. I fully expect another attempt with the exclusives and if scalping them brings big profits then then I expect the problem to continue through wave 4. Best case would be the exclusives are in good supply and scalpers can't get significant returns of them. IMO that would be a huge win and could curtail scalp efforts in future waves. We'll see.

I consider myself lucky that (so far) all the characters I really wanted who happened to be rare (Pit, Little Mac, Shulk) were obtainable for me via in-store purchases and preorders. Yeah I would like Sheik and the trinity to complete the set, but I can do without them if my only recourse is paying ~$30 per figure. Only Wave 3 that I really want and didn't get a preorder for is Meta-Knight, but I think my chances with him are good. (Better than Lucario and Rosalina at least)

Four days for me!

I'm still kind of certain my Rosalinas are going to get cancelled, but I'll just move the pre-orders over to Lucina and Robin if that's the case.

Why would they be canceled? I'm assuming you're in AUS/NZ cause that's the release date here in NZ.

EB Games NZ still has a few Wave 3 Amiibo - like Rosalina - that are still available for order online and you can order as many as you want. I'm assuming they're overselling because every other retailer pulled them long ago.

Driving around to look for amiibos sounds more fun than a second job to me. I also think you're wrong on the get rich quick schemes. I'm financially secure so I don't waste my free time to resell amiibo, but I can see the appeal.

Fuck. I preordered Rosalina a couple of days ago while canceling my Mightyape one cause I needed the carrots to level up. I'd be so damn pissed if my order gets canceled. Can we do the American thing and complain and get reimbursed for an unfulfilled preorder?

Doubt it. If you made a pick-up in store order you'll have to go into the store to get anything done, the order gets put on their store computer and online folks can't do anything.

Mighty Ape is reliable but the shipping gets expensive if you add more in. I have the three I definitely want with them, while Amiibo I'm willing to miss out on are with EB.

People often don't realize how much their time is actually worth. I've seen people spend an hour doing surveys to get a $10 voucher when they could've just done an extra hour at work for $15 cash. It's silly but people don't quantify the time and effort in their head as 'work'.

That's good to hear, I got Ike from them when he was out of stock at both EB and JB.

They're very quick to pull things that are out of stock. Unfortunately if they do actually oversell, their systems give no warning and they just won't send you anything and leave your order in limbo. It's rare but has happened to me once.
