I'm kind of in the middle. There will always be people who do really awful things in the world or who have really nasty attitudes. That will probably never change. What can be done is reducing the number of those people through societal reforms, and lowering the level of toxicity from at least some of the remaining offenders. Just because the problem will never disappear entirely doesn't mean we can't improve the situation through hard work over a long period of time

You're equating the volume, duration, and intensity of the abuse Sarkeesian has gotten since she started a video series since June of last year to two posts about said abuse.
Historically this has been done as a deflection tactic to a) downplay the abuse and b) change the subject to those expressing a rejection of such abuse, rather than the campaign attempting to silence a female gaming critic. Hence, 'both sides are just as bad.'

There really is a defense force for everything.
Regardless if you disagree with her -- no one deserves harassment. If you can't debate her on the things you disagree with and you can only resort to harassing her, then you need to question the strength of your own position.
The sad thing is that I think Anita is wrong on quite a few things. And I'm not a fan of her style of not being open for debate. Even Kotaku reached out to do a counter piece style editorial where their writer with offer a counter and she could respond (a civil closed forum) and she declined.
I don't like that she positions her arguments as 100% misogyny without debate or room for others critical analysis. Not all feminists even agree on the same things, and that is fine. But those discussions need to be had. So all these idiots that are harassing her are only making any discussion impossible. So even if they disagree with her they are making it 10x worse. That said, most of the people that I see harassing her and foaming at the mouth don't even have a valid criticism or point they want to argue. They are like toddlers sticking their fingers in their ears going lalalalala. They basically don't want any discussion period. So the harassment and attacks is their way of trying to stop it. So I wouldn't even consider these psychos as having a valid criticism or position.
But for those that do. Those that want to talk about this. Those that want to listen to her and have that civil debate. That is being ruined by this toxic environment.

Over the last many months I guess I have grown to be a bit more cynical of the world. I'm just finding it hard to show much sympathy for these people from all that I'm reading in that blog post.

Interestingly, there's a substantial segment of the GamerGate population for whom English is their second or third language. It's much harder for them to process sarcasm and irony so they take a lot of things 100% seriously that are actually 0% so. Eastern Europe in particular.

I don't even know what to say. I'd say I'm disappointed, but this is par for the course. No reprecussions, no accountibility.

These people are awful. No one deserves this kind of treatment, especially just for being a woman with an opinion.
The past months have at least got my fiance and myself talking about this stuff. I honestly had no clue women were treated so poorly online and in games.

Not every point has to be tallied on a for-or-against board. Saying that I expect better from people on NeoGAF doesn't mean I'm dismissing Sarkeesian's point.

Eh, there's a difference between showing sympathy (believe me I don't think these people deserve much "sympathy," per se) and thinking that one day they could grow out of it or just become better people.

One is a directed threat at someone who did nothing to deserve it.
The other is a general, if vulgar sentiment at people who issue threats and nonstop abuse online.
They aren't at all similar. Trying to tie them together as equivalent exposes a profound misunderstanding of what's going on.
It doesn't make sense in the context that poster used it in, but then again, the whole post is a headache to read.

This is beyond sad. I may not really agree with a lot of her views but stuff like this does make me see her in a different light. She's pushing on regardless of the giant list of Twitch chat rejects flooding her twitter page, and she's gained my respect for that.
