If he needs the tachyon thing to have super speed sure would've been tough to fight with super speed before it was stolen. I think whoever that was that Barry fought wasn't Wells. Or at least wasn't present day Wells.

Yep, sure seems like it. Makes sense considering Wells & RF "fought" each other.

I'm happy that Wells draws his powers from the suit/tachyon/speed force. Makes him different from Barry's inherent powers. I hope the eventual Zoom/Zolomon character is time relative to make him different too. Good to have variety in speedsters. God help us when Bart and Wally show up.

Atom is getting his first villain!

This looks oddly familiar...

Piper was a pimp, liked how they addressed his sexuality, showed he meant business with his tech.

Wells getting his powers from the chestplate shows he's different from Barry. Nice to see how Sisqo and Snow starting out with Wells too. Also, Barry and Joe are awesome.

Eh, episode's purpose seemed more to move other things along and introduce Hartley who I imagine will show up again
aside from the confirmed next appearance
in the future when the actor's schedule is opened up.

The problem was he hadn't leveled up enough to acquire the Disarm skill. The Rogues fight finally gave him enough experience points.

Bah, couldn't find a Warrior level up GIF.

Yeah think one of the weakest eps of the series yet.

Felt Barry was pretty much sidelined this week as well, but guess need to focus on other characters from time to time.

Also still not sure why Hartley is in their secret prison. Thought that was for meta-humans

Where do people sleep in those confinement cells? How do they bathe, take a shit - hell does anyone even feed them?

STAR Labs is committing a SERIOUS violation of basic human rights and needs to be shut down immediately.

Red lightning belongs to Wells and Reverse Flash (both past and present versions)

Yellow lightning is Barry's. Don't see why some are getting hung up on this. They're not the same person.

I don't think they are the same person, but lighting doesn't prove anything. Barry in the future could loose his powers and using artificial means to access speedforce could change the color of lighting.

I admit the thought has crossed my mind, but only because Wells and Barry seem to have unnaturally long necks.

It would be extremely sad (in a good way) if the whole arc would be about young selfish Barry using his powers to save his mom and fucking up the whole world in the process, only for old Barry to be forced to go back in time and kill his mother ,just to fix his young self's mistake.

It would be terribly compelling. Moreso than "random future person comes back to the past to fix shit".

Do it, CW.

Shades of City on the Edge of Forever.

Alright. Pretty good episode. Not great but above average. My pie n the sky prediction is
Wells is going to try to body swap with Barry. He's unable to control the speed force adequately without the suit and is progressively vibrating towards complete paralysis. He wants to switch his body with Barry's but only just before Wells is about to become paralyzed indefinitely. This would avoid any chance of Barry reversing the mind switch. Wells will actually succeed in body swapping for a short time until Barry has some kind of epiphany or zen moment which then allows him to control Wells' body. He'll go out and defeat Flash as the Reverse-Flash and then reverse the mind switch. Barry will have his body back and Wells will be paralyzed. Kinda dark, now that I think about it.

wasn't there already an Arrowverse Royal Flush Gang in an older Arrow episode? one with the family of robbers sorting their shit out.

Wells has me flummoxed.
From DC's "DCTV Secrets" tonight

The Royal Flush Gang got beat by four aces

And by four aces, of course we mean The Flash, Cisco, Caitlin, and Harrison. This gang first caused problems in Justice League of America #43 back in 1966. Over the years they’ve appeared with and without superpowers. True fans know that this particular gang first appeared on Arrow as bank robbers. This explains why there are only three cards in the deck—one of them died in Oliver’s arms.

Good episode. Pied Piper's evil Harry Potter look aside, it was good to see another villain match up against Flash, and make it look legit. I liked the actor. And hey, we finally get back to some main hardcore FIRESTORM action.

Loved Wells' casual speed stuff. That was cool. You'd think Hartley would have noticed him doing that, but I thought it was strange that Wells would pull a gun. Guess he's not as strong and as fast as people might have initially thought.

Iris being a reporter, eh. It works. I hope her team up with the veteran reporter becomes funnier.

Next episode looked fun! Extended promo is hype.

Good episode.

I'm willing to overlook it in the first season for the sake of allowing the show to establish itself before I start "docking points," but I would like for season 2 to be less about procedural villain of the week shenanigans and go for a more substantial overarching plot.

I'd personally like to see villains have more staying power, perhaps have their own mini arcs. Pied Piper fell flat this episode despite having potential. I think the IGN review got it right, the writers failed to give a more even-handed approach to his villainy.

Gotta build the gallery before you can dive into major arcs really.

I didn't really like Piper's portrayal here due to the effects but he at least used some strategies to try to counter the speed. Which is nice.

For major arcs significant to the overarching plot, sure, but establishing villains could be mini arcs in and of themselves that flesh out the villains and give them their own origin story. It's a brave new world of metahumans after all, and I'd appreciate a more in depth view at it.

So these Star Labs guys put captured criminals in a closet with no bed, no sink, and no toilet?

That's what I've been saying, man. STAR Labs about to have a scandal on their hands when their inhumane violation of basic rights is brought to the public.

That's... what they're doing...? Most of the rogue gallery we've seen thus far are developing into their own mini-arcs. We'll see them again and again. They're just not doing direct 3 and 4 ep plots of the same villain(s) back to back.

This wasn't funny or interesting in the AoS thread and it's not here either. ;/

^^ Take a chill pill man, I fucking love Flash, but there's always room to point out basic flaws (such as last weeks mind boggling fight vs. Cold + Heatwave) in the narrative.

In any case, I'm just messing around anyway.

Not really, hence why it's called a villain of the week formula. There is no dedicated focus to the introduction of a villain beyond their first episode, which is unfortunately because I'd take a 2 episode origin story for Cold over one cool introduction episode followed by a mediocre return later down the line. The benefit of mutliple episodes dedicated to one rogue at a time is that the writers would be able to write more substantial, tighter storylines instead of trying to cram everything in one episode before moving on to the next one.

I think it's hilarious. Star Labs don't play.

Also, who feeds them? Does Star Labs have a resident cook? (Or even a kitchen?) Maybe they take turns? A similar question could be asked of a certain facility on a certain island on a certain show.
