Putting rice in a burrito is like putting pineapple on pizza

I can see hating rice if you eat at shitty places like chipotle where they pack it with rice and put three spoons of meat unless you pay more but every place I go to only puts a small amount of rice in it and that is how I like it.

I don't like hawaiin pizza but pineapple and sausage is really good.

I'm still so amazed that so many of you still say that the rice is what makes it a burrito? Seriously, wtf? Is everyone genuinely being serious here? That's like saying the mayo is what makes it a sandwhich, not the bread and filling.

Guys, there is more to Mexican(-American) cuisine than Chipotle.

I'm actually not a fan of rice or beans in my burritos its just filler unless that's what your expecting in a burrito like one of those lame ass veggie burritos.

how the hell are people calling rice and beans filler? rice and beans are delicious on their own. something with little taste like lettuce is filler. this thread is a circus and you are all clowns

rice in a california burrito IS like pineapple on pizza. no place for it. IS TODAY BACKWARDS DAY!?

it is an american thing. In mexico you can make a burrito, taco or torta out of literally anything except rice

That's not even a good excuse. The superior SoCal burritos pre-dated the Mission style burritos by decades. There's a reason why they have to add the 'Mission-style' qualifier, distinguish it from the original.

I feel overwhelmed to the point where my head is going to explode at the amount of wrong.

Rice in a burrito is a filthy and deceiving construct of burrito-warlocks that skimp on the good stuff and you plebs think it's a thing now.

It's like making a sandwich, putting in some basic shit and then beefing it up with a load of soft breadcrumbs.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?

Yep, THIS. No rice in burritos please, There is no rice in original burritos.

the worst part of chipotle is when they put cilantro on the rice

makes it taste like soap

soap tastes awful

this is why i never go to chipotle

The lard-laden tortilla used in the Socal burritos need more mentions. They are moist and flakey in all the right places, not that plasticky crap they use in NorCal. You can practically taste the dryness of the rice-a-ritto wrap in that pic ^^^^^^

The reason usually is that Americans have grown accustomed to having their entire meal stuffed into a comically large tortilla. Rice and beans are a side dish, the real star of the show is the chile con carne. Plenty of sit down family style Mexican restaurants will sell you a burrito that is stuffed with meat, cilantro and onions. If you want dinner you order the combination plate, rice and beans on the side, sour cream/salsa/queso fresco on top. Stuffing all of that into the tortilla is done as a convenience to make that meal portable but they are by no means the defining characteristic of the dish.

This man knows his stuff.

This is all you need:

And not that rice insanity.

I don't understand how Chipotle stays in business around here. (here being the San Diego area) You can get better Mexican anywhere, for less.
Something like Taco Bell I can understand because they're open really late and they have the drunk/stoned crowd to fall back on. Then again, a couple of the B-tier Mexican joints nearby are open late, too.

You must be one of those defective people. :P Cilantro is delicious.

More on topic. I love rice, so rice in burritos is more than fine by me. Pineapple on pizza on the other hand, I'm not a fan. But I'm not a huge pizza lover to begin with.

Both are good, OP. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

But, seriously, I know people have different opinions regarding subjective matters like music, food, etc. Yet, I can't help feeling that I'm 'right' and they're 'wrong' when opinions don't match.

I really do not care for rice either. There is a vegamatarian pub in the Brighton Lanes in England that does an awesome burrito, there was no rice in that. The only good rice is Chinese or Indian Mushroom fried rice. Fuck the rest

Pineapple on pizza on the other hand is the nuts,

Yeah I can't say that rice in a burrito has ever done much for me. It has definitely made burritos worse, but I can't ever say it has made one better. At best it wont hurt the burrito. Being more full from your burrito is nice I guess, but I'd rather have that same amount of volume that rice provides instead provided by meat, vegetables, cheese, salsa, hell anything that goes in a burrito besides rice.

I like neither rice nor pineapple so I subscribe to this view.

Besides, rice is used to bulk up a burrito and cut out on the pricier, tastier ingredients anyway.

It's like when those cheapo hucksters load up your shawarmawich with fries, in order to cut down on the shaved meat/fresh veggies.

Being from the UK I havent got a long history with burritos myself, wife decided to make some about a year ago and we both loved them, then we found a local burrito place that we both really enjoyed. We decided to go yesterday and found out that it is closing down on Friday, we are pretty damn sad about it as it was the only place we go out to eat these days (Not a fan of most other food places here).

Since I had also just filled up a loyalty card we are gonna go today too and say goodbye to the place. Gonna be a sad day

On topic though, the idea of a burrito without rice seems ridiculous to me! I would rather have a bit of everything than just one thing. I suppose me being a vegetarian limits my ingredients slightly but you still have a great choice of what to have.

Pineapple + pepperoni is the best topping combination of all time. ALL TIME!!!

I don't like rice on my burrito but I'll eat it anyway if it's not an excessive amount of rice.

a thread about burritos and a lot of the discussion is about how pineapple on pizza is an abomination. should show you pineapple lovers the wrong you do.

I think I had a ' fajita' once in Baltimore at some chain restaurant. That's basically a kind of burrito, right? It had rice in it and was the best tasting Mexican food I ever had.

Which pub are you talking about? Might have to make a detour one day....

This thread title is pretty wrong but I can't say I much care either way.

It's actually impossible to put pineapple on a pizza because then it can't be considered a pizza. It has to be known as an American bready flap with tomato and yellow bits on top.

Pineapple on pizza is amazing. Rice in a burrito is amazing. Both are amazing so I guess the topic title is true.

If I wanted rice, I would take a cup and cook it myself instead of paying an equivalent amount of money for rice instead of meat.
