Sega to cut 300 jobs (heavily arcade/pub staff), refocusing on digital/mobile/PC [Up]

So many franchises reduced to dust.

The Sega story is a tragedy.

Yeah they should sell them. I suppose the new owners wouldn't do them justice, but at least they wouldn't be lost, and one or two of them could come out great.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, recently. Persona 5 this year.

It doesn't make mention of any Japan specific related restructuring in the article. I'd imagine Atlus is successful enough for them to continue doing what they're doing?
I mean made in the West. Although I guess even Sonic isn't really an American property.

Like Konami buying Hudson, it's a trend

But...no more console related future...besides Persona 5, does that mean Atlus is done making console games? I mean you're probably right but this shit is really scary if Atlus is in any way affected by this.

Sounds like the beginning of the end, slowly but surely joining Atari as a publisher that was once king of the console market and now makes nothing but irrelevant mobile games.

Oh well, at least they still publish non-digital only games from studios like The Creative Assembly for the time being.

Well at least they seem prepared to focus on what sells best for them but still rather sad to see. I remember when Sega was king back in the 90's.

Sega never fails to fail, imo.
Really hope this doesn't affect Atlus. They should sell them before they turn Atlus into something else. I bet Sony or Nintendo would be interested.

Poor Sega was never king of anything.

Just release yakuza on PC. Atlus will do what atlus does. Sega is finally packing it up. After sonic boom, how are we not surprised.

What does this mean for Atlus and all their games? Persona 5?

Sony should have bought them when they had the chance

This.

You'll probably see a lot more exclusive titles per system, and with Sony and MS wanting to foot the bill, they'll be under one banner instead of two or three.

It's a tough road, but cutting costs on systems that aren't making money is a necessity in this day and age.

You make an interesting point. Sony and Microsoft might be vying for exclusive Sega games in the future and doing publishing deals with Sega, with PC maybe being the place to get everything. I can see that happening, with Sony maybe going after Yakuza.

I guess this really means there is no chance for a Resonance of Fate sequel :(. But I still do see them releasing some console games still mostly only in japan stuff and a once in a long while localization/western dev published game.

This sounds more like Sonic + Atlus = consoles, the rest online PC and Mobile. They're becoming less risky and more streamlined... Kinda like Square Enix.

Well looks like they stop releasing shitty Sonic console games, by not releasing them at all

"as well as its Sonic and merchandising businesses."

The day we stop getting shitty console Sonic games is the day Sega goes out of business.

(I don't know whether Sonic fans consider that a good or a bad thing...)

Soooooooo what does this mean for PC games from SEGA? Like I wouldn't mind more of their PS3 and before era titles on Steam.

We stop getting shitty Sonic games when SEGA wises up and realizes they had the makings of good Sonic games 3-5 years ago.

I hope to dear God that Creative Assembly and Relic aren't affected by this.

Mobile and Online games doesn't seem like a prospect I want those studios to focus on :/
