Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

I think I have the biggest bullshit story of all.

I get there right at 9:30, a few minutes later someone walks up and jumps to the front of the line, seemingly to talk to a friend. 9:45 an employee/manager comes out to hand out tickets and the asshole who jumped to the front of the line claimed he was ahead of me despite not being in line correctly and admitting he was in the front. They only had 6 extra and I would have been the sixth except for this asshole and the employee/manger fucking believed him and gave him the last ticket. I argued with the manager and he didn't want to deal with it saying 'you two deal with it yourselves' fuck that and fuck both of them.

I wouldn't even have been pissed if they had just 5, no its that they had enough and I should have gotten one but the idiot manager just didn't want to deal with it or hand out the tickets correctly.

Fuck toys r us.

I don't think I would've had enough self control at that point.

It's times like this I sort of appreciate having a smaller town, even if there's a secret hidden group of gamers like myself hiding somewhere (GS employee said they had about TEN calls about the MM3D New 3DS XL the day it was announced via Direct).

Also Amiibros before Amiiho....rders...
What kind of small town has a TRU though? Lol I live in a pretty small town and the closest target is a 100 mile roundtrip and TRU is even farther.

I have no problem not getting Lucario, fine. The two things that piss me off/not OK is that some guy walks in and buys all 6 of them and the store opens early. That is just not fair at all.

And I still can't believe there is no restriction to how many you can order for crying out loud there were 4 people who wanted one Lucario and that jabroni ordered 8+ of them.

That's pretty fucked up.

To quote my Toys R Us "Your Pre-order item(s) will be available on January 30th, 2015" e-mail:

We are happy to report that your Lucario amiibo pre-order will be available for purchase starting January 30th, 2015. Your item will be reserved for 7 days from this date.

End of the day does not equal 7 days reservation.

If I was that manager, I wouldn't have even held them until the end of the day. I would have sold them right there to people that wanted them. Then I would have told the dirty scalper, that we didn't get our shipment in.

Fuck scalpers, they can all go die in a fire.

Good strategy. People here seem to forget that scalpers are people and most probably aren't horrible monsters.

Yeah. People might disagree with me on here but I understand why scalpers do it. I can't hate someone trying to make some extra money. It is a dick move to buy a ton of them so that no one else can get them (and I don't like that at all) but I understand why they do it. I wish they would just grab 1 extra if they were scalping instead of everything but I know that isn't realistic. It is annoying how hard these are to come by and scalpers do make it a lot harder but if I want one bad enough I better work harder than the scalpers (which I haven't unfortunately) I will beat them though for Rosalina. (to the store...not with my fists)

I also wish places would set a limit of 2 (or even 3) on each figure but I understand why they don't. Sales are sales to them.

There were 9 people in line at my store, we would have flipped our shit. It's the only TRU within 30+ miles of here... and they only get two. So mad. I hope nintendo restocks them because I'm not paying some damn scalper just to complete my collection. I just want Smash and Zelda lines, that's it. Everything else will be on a game-per-game basis.

Oh, I don't have a TRU. I guess I was referring more to Target & GameStop. Meijer came in handy with Cap. Falcon & Bowser early. I also have a K-mart & Walmart but the former is basically a ghost town that keeps looking like they're gonna go out of business, yet haven't, & Walmart's selection is lulz.

It seriously does suck to hear about people not getting Lucario. It just further cements how terrible this wave has been & that retail exclusives should NEVER happen again.

Where are you in Canada exactly? I can't check out my EBgames until noon so I just want to know if it's going to be even worth it at that point.

Ontario.

Toon Link and Bowser were the only walk ins available based on the tweet. All others are preorder only and they don't have enough for most. Many with preorders will have to wait until sometime in February.

Future Shop has yet to ship or charge for Meta Knight.

That was the thing that bothered me the most, no one fucking stuck up for me at all, the other people in line knew the guy was lying and didn't say shit. Fucking stupid as all hell. I'm writing Toys R Us as I post this, I doubt it'll help anything but its so freaking stupid

Dude, its a fucking TOY!!! You shouldn't have to "work" to BUY one. You already worked to earn the money to buy it.

I have dealt with pricks like that before. I have no problem with telling him to get his ass to the back. It sounds mean but you have to be like that when it comes to these situations. Don't let anyone screw you over brother.

What a disappointment. Got a Toon Link and Bowser from EB Games, both of which only had 2 available for walk-ins. Future Shop hasn't received anything yet. Best Buy hasn't received anything yet. Wal-Mart hasn't received anything yet. Toys'r'Us hasn't received anything yet. Target is dead.

EB Canada here limits 1 unit per person. TRU 2 units per person.

Dude, its a fucking TOY!!! You shouldn't have to "work" to BUY one. You already worked to earn the money to buy it.

But the reality is that you have to do to low supplies, stores not setting purchase limits, and scalpers.

I probably won't get a Lucario from the sounds of it. I wanted one but not bad enough to show up at opening this morning I guess. No way am I going to pay scalper prices though. I will keep trying but it looks like I may miss out on this figure (like a few of the others)

I will be at Target on Sunday at open though.

Are you sure they were a scalper?

Just out of curiosity really. I'm damn sure to someone who doesn't know me, if I get all of my Lucarios today, people could reasonably assume I'm a scalper. I'm picking them up for Gaffers but I doubt someone asking would believe me.

Edit: See, like this too. I have a total of probably 12-15 on pre-order across two different stores. It's going to look bad to some people ><

well they picked up several of each from the looks of it so I just assumed so...my morale has been completely crushed in terms of finding these, but I'll keep on trying

Fuck scalpers, they can all go die in a fire.

Why are you assuming that guy is scalping them? What if that person is like me and pre-ordered a bunch for their particular favorite internet community to make sure people DON'T have to scalp them? Scalp or not, they should honor their reservation agreements.

Man, so many heartbreaking stories so early in the morning. :(

I'm on my way to work so I couldn't stop by TRU in person. I really hope my buddy going for me is able to grab me one but, these stories are already a bad sign.

Tell me about it...
I was going to head to TRU after work at 4 but that seems pretty hopeless now. Heck, I could probably go at lunch and still have no luck :.(

Bowser, Toon Link and Sheik came out a week ago, Lucario comes out today, Rosalina comes out Sunday. Ike and Sonic won't be for another couple weeks.

Mega Man and Sonic, rather.

My Ike shipped yesterday from Amazon. They even split the order I had of Toon/Mega/Ike into two shipments.

You keep using that word "jabroni" and I gotta say...
IT'S AWESOME!
Did you just make that up or something?

If you're really lucky, they can work things out and send one to a store for you, but I wouldn't count on it.

When I worked at gamestop, people who got royally screwed over in our district would usually get compensated somehow. We'd order stock from stores out in the midwest who didn't sell everything, and then personally hold them for the customer. That kind of service is on a manager to manager basis, though. A lot of stores/managers don't care enough, but we usually tried to jump through hoops to help people out if they got screwed over due to inventory shortages or cancellations or mistakes.

OK guys, I think I finally found my breaking point. I just left Toys R Us, figured I would go to see what the situation was with wave 3 and Lucario, and left disgusted and ashamed to be collecting these things. There were about 10 other people in the video games department, all adults some with elderly parents, there for Lucario. The 3 employees in the section said they only got enough to cover preorders which was about 15... all to one guy. You would think the people there lost their collective minds. I thought there was going to be a riot. One man, looked to be in his 50s, starting crying about how it was unfair... Fuck Amiibos, I don't want to be associated with this retail scene.

I will be at Target on Sunday at open though.

And sadly, NA is the only region having these supply issues. It doesn't seem as bad in EU or JP. Then again, greed is more prevalent here in America, it seems as well.

I'll be at Target too. And if its as crazy as some of these TRU stories, I'm done with these things, at least until Nintendo gets their shit together.

Nah. Its used frequently in Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, so I picked it up in my vocabulary.

But it has existed way before that in WWE IIRC

I'm no sure if its because I'm still a little groggy from sleep or what, but reading this, how would that help this situation at all? If anything, you could also say that there are scalpers lining up in front of the store and the good people who only want one amiibo had the preorders.

If anything, blame the retailers for not imposing hard limits on purchases and Nintendo for not providing enough stock to meet demand.

Was able to get Shulk from my ISPU at Ebgames, only walk-in available were Toon Link and Bowser.

Guy wanted to write me as a scalper in the system because I wanted to look at more than one box to pick the prettiest (also because I said that I don't open them). He told me that they are all the same.

The first one he gave me had what looked like a long hair inside the box! He was making fun of me, saying that the other Shulk might be blue! Well sorry for caring about the paint job... Some of them come out pretty ugly with derpy eyes or paint smears.

Oh well, I have learnt that they do look for scalpers. He became friendly when we began to talk about different gaming stuff, seeing I care.

All these horror stories. I'm so glad I have no interest in getting Lucario. Toon Link on the other hand still eludes me.

I'm getting worried about getting a Rosalina now. Hopefully Target will handle things better than TRU.

So are people getting their BestBuy.com Toon Links shipped? Mine is still processing.

It's going to really suck if I get all the amiibo EXCEPT lucario. It'll be like having a hole in my pants and i'll never be able to stop poking at it.

I'll be at target at 7:45 on sunday. Two stores near me, they each said they'd get 24 Rosalina and are limiting one per customer.

So so so mad about lucario. God dammit. Retailer exclusive shit. Especially when the retailer is apparently incompetent. The guy last week told me they had 7 extra, I show up this morning, they have TWO. What happened to the 5? Are employees buying them?

Has anyone found out when gamestop/best-buy/amazon are going wave 4 (smash) preorders?

guys, I'm conflicted on amiibos for Pokken. On one side, I LOVE pokemon and its turning out to be the pokemon game that I've wanted since I played the original games as a child, I'd love to have little figurines of the Pokemon in the game. But on the other hand, my love for Pokemon will most likely get the best for me and I might end up getting all of em for the Pokken series(except for repeats like Pikachu, Lucario and Charizard. Yea, Charizard hasn't been confirmed for the game but c'mon... he's OBVIOUSLY going to be in it). Thats A LOT of money, would suck even more if they have some that are store exclusive >_>

Was it already discussed that there's a rumor on reddit that Rosalina will not be Target exclusive in Canada? Limited quantities are going to be distributed to retailers.

My breaking point was Captain Falcon. Nintendo doesn't care that 90% of sales go to scalpers.

Got lucky. Walked into the TRU games section to about 5 other people in front of me, all for Lucario. Thy had two boxes, 4 amiibo each.

Not sure what the decided upon rarity situation is with Lucario but that's what my local store had. It was in a pretty big popular and ritzy shopping center.

Holy hell. NOA really fucked this up.

That's odd. I can't find my Shulk pre-order on Gamestop.com anymore.

Ha. Neither could I just now.

It wasn't in my list of orders when I searched through email / credit card, but I looked up through email / order # and it was there. The order number was in the confirmation email from when I set the pre-order.

Maybe that's your issue?

Simple Fix.
Just don't like Pokemon anymore.

Haha I was beginning to wonder if anyone watched Always Sunny. I pretty much quoted what Charlie says to Mac about that word.

Got my Lucario at the Cary, NC TRU this morning. I got there at 9:40am and all non pre-ordered figures (5) were already accounted for. There were about 20 people lined up total by the time the store opened. I had no issues since I had a pre-order, but I noticed the 2 guys in front me had pre-ordered 8 and 3 figures, respectively. Pretty shitty considering that a Grandmother coming to find one for her Grandson was turned away after I got there, but what can you do. The Target I am going to Sunday has said they are doing 1 Rosalina per person and hopefully they do tickets as well, but after today I am thinking about getting there much earlier.
