Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

I'm no sure if its because I'm still a little groggy from sleep or what, but reading this, how would that help this situation at all? If anything, you could also say that there are scalpers lining up in front of the store and the good people who only want one amiibo had the preorders.

If anything, blame the retailers for not imposing hard limits on purchases and Nintendo for not providing enough stock to meet demand.

It would help because I would have sold them one per customer.

guys, I'm conflicted on amiibos for Pokken. On one side, I LOVE pokemon and its turning out to be the pokemon game that I've wanted since I played the original games as a child, I'd love to have little figurines of the Pokemon in the game. But on the other hand, my love for Pokemon will most likely get the best for me and I might end up getting all of em for the Pokken series(except for repeats like Pikachu, Lucario and Charizard. Yea, Charizard hasn't been confirmed for the game but c'mon... he's OBVIOUSLY going to be in it). Thats A LOT of money, would suck even more if they have some that are store exclusive >_>

Oh...a Suicune amiibo. It's going to be beautiful~
and unobtainable

And sadly, NA is the only region having these supply issues. It doesn't seem as bad in EU or JP. Then again, greed is more prevalent here in America, it seems as well.

I'll be at Target too. And if its as crazy as some of these TRU stories, I'm done with these things, at least until Nintendo gets their shit together.

I am going to keep collection but it sounds like we all need to preorder 1 as soon as they are available. (even though no one had a chance with Rosalina going up at 3AM for 30 minutes) Anything you want or think you want just preorder right away and if you change your mind later you can cancel a preorder.

I was stupid with Sheik. For some reason I thought she would be like Zelda and Link. (readily available) Hoping to find her at Target along with Rosalina. Learned my lesson

So so so mad about lucario. God dammit. Retailer exclusive shit. Especially when the retailer is apparently incompetent. The guy last week told me they had 7 extra, I show up this morning, they have TWO. What happened to the 5? Are employees buying them?
Considering I asked a friend who works at Best Buy to see if he could get me a spare Meta Knight, possibly. Heck, I remember a GS employee who said he jumped on pre-ordering the MM3D New XL when he had the chance (well, it was the online pay-in-full, but still).

Don't get me wrong, I fully understand your anger & I seriously dislike how Lucario has been handled, even if I don't care for him.

All these horror stories. I'm so glad I have no interest in getting Lucario. Toon Link on the other hand still eludes me.

I'm getting worried about getting a Rosalina now. Hopefully Target will handle things better than TRU.

So are people getting their BestBuy.com Toon Links shipped? Mine is still processing.

I got an order shipment email for Toon Link from Best Buy. Email came in yesterday around 2pm. I'm on the east coast, if that matters.

Are people seeing Toon Link at TRU? Wondering if they received another shipment, but chances are Lucario was in the back since last Friday.

Yeah, that's why I preordered two Lucarios from TRU this past December. One for me, and one for my 10 year old nephew. He loves Pokemon and Lucario is one of his favorites. He also love amiibos too and he's just as frustrated that its so hard to get all the others he wants.

And I think if Rosalina wasn't retailer exclusive, she probably would have been readily available like Zelda and Link.

OK guys, I think I finally found my breaking point. I just left Toys R Us, figured I would go to see what the situation was with wave 3 and Lucario, and left disgusted and ashamed to be collecting these things. There were about 10 other people in the video games department, all adults some with elderly parents, there for Lucario. The 3 employees in the section said they only got enough to cover preorders which was about 15... all to one guy. You would think the people there lost their collective minds. I thought there was going to be a riot. One man, looked to be in his 50s, starting crying about how it was unfair... Fuck Amiibos, I don't want to be associated with this retail scene.
Terrible situation :(

Simple Fix.
Just don't like Pokemon anymore.
You might as well tell people to stop breathing Jaw :I

It would help because I would have sold them one per customer.
And what you do if the scalper came in with their buddies? It'll still technically be one per person and if you refuse, you risk getting put in the grey area of customer discrimination which is against the law.

This is just an all around bad situation that can only be remedied if Nintendo just pumps the market full of amiibos.

I'm sure that if pokken comes to wii u, and it supports amiibo, each of them will get a new pokken version of the amiibo (and the smash ones will be compatible as well).

I just want to complete the smash line and I want to complete any zelda lines they release. Is that too much to ask ;_;

And what you do if the scalper came in with their buddies? It'll still technically be one per person and if you refuse, you risk getting put in the grey area of customer discrimination which is against the law.

If a scalper can somehow recruit multiple friends to spend their time hunting for these things, then either he has to split some of the profit, which makes it less worth it, or he has some really good friends who are willing to just waste time all so one person can get a few extra bucks off toys. Either way, I'm ok with that. It's when it requires little to no effort at all to turn a small profit at the expense of fans that i'm not ok with. And I'd have no problem paying a little extra for a lucario if it weren't for the fact that the money would directly encourage these people to continue doing it.

That probably is the reason. I'm on the West Coast. My local TRU also had a sign up yesterday when I was looking for Toon Link saying they didn't get their shipment. I need to move to the east. :(

There is no winning with this. No matter what resellers win.

If Nintendo were to magically produce 1 amiibo for every person who wants one (even 2 for 1 if you want it... magically the supply and the demand were equal) resellers would win, because all they have to do is buy them all.

If Nintendo were to magically produce 10 amiibo for every person who wants one (supply greatly exceeds demand) resellers would still be able to buy them all, scalp them, and return the stock back to the respective stores. In this case, only the resellers win, everyone else loses.

Honestly, the only solution to this would be regulations that prevent scalping (which I thought existed for like concert tickets and such, but apparently do not) thus making it illegal to do so.

Went to Toys R Us this morning in Alpine. Got there at 10:00 a.m. on the dot but was too late for Lucario as probably ~6 people had supposedly waited for the store to open and were already at the cash register buying them. Suffice it to say it was a waste of gas for me.

I think this Toys R Us also got more Toon Link, Bowser, Sheik since when I asked about Lucario the clerk said they still had the two former (didn't see them on shelves) and I saw someone buying a Sheik there as well. Luckily I'm already covered on those three though.

I'm not too bothered about not finding Lucario, wasting gas and time going there kind of bugs me though. Not even sure I want to go through this with Rosalina and Meta-Knight. (whenever he comes) Maybe I will just look into importing them... Anyways though, yeah the last month has really tested my will to collect these things. It is getting to the point where I feel stupid being one of many to go crazy over these things and rush to stores to buy them. Hearing these horror stories isn't helping my conscience, especially because I want to collect these things for fun rather than becoming a maniacal child over it.

The scalper already thinks he's getting 12, why would he bring is buddies. Regardless, if I was that manager, I wouldn't have let one person walk out with 12 of one amiibo.

Ha. Neither could I just now.

It wasn't in my list of orders when I searched through email / credit card, but I looked up through email / order # and it was there. The order number was in the confirmation email from when I set the pre-order.

Maybe that's your issue?

That's probably it. I'll have to check with my order e-mail confirmation number when I get home. I was really confused there for a moment. Hopefully it's just a weird glitch.

Yes and Amazon.ca had preorders up last night.

Ah, I had no idea. Well, good on those who got them.

Just give up on getting all of them and go for a few you really want unless you're fine paying scalper or import prices.

Nintendo has done nothing to show the supply issue is getting any better than when they started.

If you have enough stock for everyone, the amount of profit a scalper can make diminishes, which would make it not worth it for them. You don't see scalpers going in to toys r us, buying every single toy, and then reselling them at a higher price. They only resell the ones where demand exceeds supply.

I was hoping i'd be able to post something similar this morning. Alas not.

Just stopped by Toys R Us to see if I could scoop up a Lucario amiibo. I could not. Contrary to what I was told by my Toys R Us the other day, they would not be selling Lucario amiibos to those who did not preorder them, and that if they had any left by February 8th, they would sell those to the general public.

I got there about 2 minutes before the doors opened, and one of the people in line was giving everybody else Amiibo hunting advice. I only caught the tail end of the talking, but he had said that, at least in my area:

a) Apparently there are going to be more Rosalina amiibo at Target than Lucarios at TrU
b) If you want Meta Knight, good luck
c) If you aren't a collector that cares about the language on the box, you should look into importing

In my Lucario-less frustration and early morning grogginess, I didn't put 2+2 together until I got home. The guy was wearing a Nintendo jacket, wearing a laminated ID card around his neck, wheeling around a tiny suitcase, taking pictures, and standing back and talking to the TrU employees.

I'm pretty sure he was a NoA rep. Hopefully somebody else had an NoA rep at their store and can corroborate this. Needless to say, I'm probably going to take his advice. I'm done with this retailer-exclusive nonsense.

I refuse to give money to scalpers/resellers if I can help it. In a week's time I'll probably order all the amiibo online from overseas that are impossible for me to find(some I've never even seen in stores(Pit, Mac, Villager).

I know that we already know about Rosalina in Canada, but Nintendo replied to me about her availability!

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us. We appreciate your interest in amiibo. Please accept my apologies for the delay in my response.

In regard to the store-exclusive Rosalina amiibo, we should have updated information about availability shortly, which will be posted to the Canadian Nintendo website (http://www.nintendo.com/en_CA/games/detail/COLN6qTF3vtu092ryqGvM0gsufIS9utf). Please check back regularly!

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.

I don't see why it's so hard to enforce one per customer. I doesn't stop hardcore scalping rings but at least deters the casual neck-beard from ruining everybody's day.

I just wish I could see a NoA rep. I've got tons of feedback for their shithole division.

With my exclusive Amiibo preorders seemingly in limbo and so much uncertainty with the Target Rosalina allocation and scalpers beating me to the punch over and over, I'm fairly certain I will make the news this weekend.

So should I NOT trust Amazon when they say they are delivering my Toon Link on March 2nd?

I dont wanna miss out on my Toon Link :(

ALSO WHEN DOES NESS GO ON SALE?!

So rather than up production of Amiibos, NoA is sending reps around to stores to advise people how to hunt for them? This company is just getting worse and worse.

Just got home from TRU and it was... not horrible. It was myself and 4 other folks. All older guys, all collectors. We talked amiibo for 15 minutes and joked about similar experiences of being called "scalpers" for no reason other than being old dudes and usually buying more than one for friends or to open. There were 2 available for walkups. We all picked up our Lucarios, anywhere from 2-4 each. and left, someone was walking up as I walked out so I assume those two that were left are now gone.

That is seriously, unbelievably messed up. Feel really bad for all the other people who never even had a chance.

Toys R Us situation sounds like a mess. And yet Nintendo World Store probably got more Lucario amiibos in than any singular Toys R Us store. That's the more screwed up part.

If that was indeed a NoA rep at that store, oh man that's just sad. That they are actually saying importing is a better avenue. Looks like nothing is getting fixed.

Just give up on getting all of them and go for a few you really want unless you're fine paying scalper or import prices.

Oh I was more disappointed by the entire situation than upset that I couldn't get the figures. I already have Lucario, Rosalina/Rosette and Ike coming from Japan and since I open them I don't need to worry about the US packaging. Also I I'm not worried about getting the entire set, I never bothered with Diddy Kong or Pikachu. I more went to Toys R Us this morning to see what the situation was and to see if I could pick up any of the wave 3 figures for people here. Although I was hoping for a Sheik :(

ALSO WHEN DOES NESS GO ON SALE?!

You should be good. It took amazon forever to mail out my Captain Falcon and Pit but they eventually showed up in great condition.

Just give up on getting all of them and go for a few you really want unless you're fine paying scalper or import prices.

Nintendo has done nothing to show the supply issue is getting any better than when they started.

Of course you run into a problem if one of the ones that you really want is a heavily-scalped/limited-quantity item, as have most of the ones I've been chasing (got really lucky with Marth and Villager).

Yeah, this. Pumping the market with more amiibo doesn't entirely solve the problem.

It won't now, but it would have if initial shipments of wave 1/2 were larger. Scalpers wouldn't have cared that much. Now that scalpers know amiibo is a big deal, all future shipments, no matter how large, will be bought by mostly scalpers unless they limit 1 per address for online orders and 1 per person at stores.

If a scalper can somehow recruit multiple friends to spend their time hunting for these things, then either he has to split some of the profit, which makes it less worth it, or he has some really good friends who are willing to just waste time all so one person can get a few extra bucks off toys. And I'd have no problem paying a little extra for a lucario if it weren't for the fact that the money would directly encourage these people to continue doing it.
Preorders are a good and bad thing. Not everyone can go to a store at the crack of dawn to wait and directly buy these things. If you were talking about preorders.

The scalper already thinks he's getting 12, why would he bring is buddies. Regardless, if I was that manager, I wouldn't have let one person walk out with 12 of one amiibo.
If it becomes publicized that stores will impose a limit of 1 per customer, there is nothing stopping scalpers from creating multiple dummy accounts and letting those close to them walk into the store for them (or they can just walk in multiple times a day into the store and meet a different cashier each time). Until they somehow make it so you are only allowed one account per IP address or something, this will still be a problem.
At the same time not everyone can get to the store so early, they have a job, they have classes, etc, its not fair to other people if preorders were no longer used.

So its a pick your poison type deal.

Got my Lucario this morning at the Myrtle Beach, SC Toys R Us this morning. Got off worked at 7 and wasted time until around 8:30. One guy was there already so for in line a little before 9. Found out they had three and eventually another person came like 30 minutes prior. Technically they had four, but they had a hold on one since they accidentally had them on display last week evidently and held one to make up for it to them.

Was nice to have two others that weren't scalping or anything. A few showed up right at 10 but didn't seem to be too many. Hope that bodes well for Rosalina on Sunday in my area.

The guy there said they had Sheik and Toon Link prior and sold out of both already also. Hoping for luck on Toon Link on a Sunday as well. I'm pretty sure Sheik is a lost cause sadly.

So rather than up production of Amiibos, NoA is sending reps around to stores to advise people how to hunt for them? This company is just getting worse and worse.

The guy was probably just a Nintendo worker that maintains the retail display and stuff. I wouldn't take whatever he represents as representative of NoA's position.
