Hah the guy is both cool and a nerd at the same time, I love it.

He was well ahead of the curve wasn't he in terms of anticipating the coming trends with the internet.

Loving his work, I hope he tore it up in that car. :D

Just saw on Wikipedia that he ended up crashing and wrecking the car while it was uninsured.

at the end of the video he says: "I'd love to be on the cover of the rolling stone magazine". But I guess he hasn't been there, yet (Google only shows Time magazine)? So, his pursuit continues.

Also would be interesting if he's still with the same girl.

According to Google, no. They divorced in 2008 and he married a 20-something actress/model in 2013.

He dresses like an old man in that video. Today I see him on flashy suits. It's like he is reverse aging lmao

The late 90's/early 00's were merciless.

Not surprising really. Mr. Bean wrecked his twice. Someone correct me if Im wrong but this car had no traction control, no abs, no driver aids whatsoever.

I was told that the first time it was wrecked, he did £400k's damage. The second time, just under £1ms worth (the original cost of the car was £650,000).

McLaren F1s are worth around £8m each these days.

At a place near where I live, a millionaire was showing off in another McLaren F1 driving this couple around. He lost it on a wet road and destroyed it. The thing barely resembled a vehicle. All three were killed..

My goodness we've come a long way in the last 15 years. Not so much the car but noticing things like a 4:3 CRT TV (
that is bigger than the one I still use to watch TV
) and Monitor.

I'd never heard of zip2 until now though. Shows you how fast the web moves I suppose.

I never knew that Elon Musk was an African American.

That's a funny way of putting it. He is from South Africa and now is an American Citizen, so I guess that makes him African American :)

The guy at the end of the video is Steve Jurvetson, an investor in Tesla and SpaceX, I'm a huge fan of his talks on YouTube.

That's Sarah Lacy, I like her a lot, she's one of toughest and most honest journalists I know in Silicon Valley.

She's a terrible interviewer from the 1 example I have of her. Doesn't help that Musk is borderline Aspergers, and you can tell her being wrong was eating him alive.

She should work on her interviewing skills, wow

I enjoy watching her interviews, they're more like "fireside chats" (with drinking), and she's had some interesting guests. They're all from the tech industry though, because that's what she covers.

Not related (but kinda, since Musk worked on internet banking/paypal): Latest article from Pando.com (the company Sarah Lacy started and runs): The Silk Road trial is proof positive that bitcoin is not (and has never been) anonymous

Edit: hmm, I haven't watched that interview in a long time (I think it was the first I saw of her), I should rewatch some of it to see if I see this "terrible skills" you guys keep talking about.

Edit 2: Oh that's just a 4-minute snipped of the whole interview, which is an hour long: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uegOUmgKB4E

Yeah I don't see what you guys hate about her. I like her natural and casual demeanor.

What makes you think that? What are the symptoms you see in him?

Maybe because he stutters a bit. I never thought he had asperger's though, and I only noticed his stuttering when others mentioned it (and I don't think it's even stuttering in the traditional/medical sense, which I have). He's just not the smoothest speaker.
