What's punting the ball? Kicking it upfield?

It means they moved one yard and would have to move it nine more yards to revert back to the next cycle of four.

Punting is giving up the ball to the other team by kicking it downfield rather than risk not completing a play and getting a first down, since if they fail then the ball reverts after the fourth down to the opposing team and they would start on the field wherever the ball is. If they punt it, the opposing team has to catch the ball all the way downfield and then try to run as far as possible to get good field position.
