Darkest Dungeon | “The Road” of dungeon crawlers, on Kickstarter, GAFfer-made

Not a big roguelike guy, but just wanted to say I really dig the presentation. The gameplay sounds a bit too hardcore for me, but I'll likely buy it somewhere down the line.

I got access for the game on the weekend and installed it a few hours ago (I thought I'd get access only on 3rd of Feb, but I didn't check my mail).

Since the game is still in early access, I am assuming that the numerical data (resistance values) below the enemies will be removed in the release version?

I'm itching so bad to play this, been watching twitch streams of it all the time last few days.

Anyone know if it unlocks midnight local time on EA or is there a specific time on 3 Feb?

I hope not. It's invaluable information that's super needed in an already difficult game. It also shows off your chance to hit and how much damage you're going to do.

It's looking great! I've seen different bits of gameplay and it's definately something I want to experience. If it's coming to PS4 I'll buy it at a high price. I'm starting to write up a D&D campaign for friends and this looks like it will be great inspiration.

Anyone know what time this goes live (time / time zone)
I'm in Australia and trying to work out if I will be playing this today or tomorrow. Thanks

I find this game to be extremely unbalanced against the player. Here are some things I noticed and things I would like to see improved upon.

Stress drops WAY too quickly. I can be two rooms in a dungeon and most of my party will almost be maxed. There needs to be more ways to reduce stress in town, maybe tick down stress slowly if they are idle.

Food seems broken. One food costs 75 gold per unit and you need 1 unit per member so a min of 4 units, then you can be required to feed your party at a min of 3 times within a medium dungeon, that's 12 units for one dungeon, or 900 gold. I feel it should be 1 unit total per feeding but maybe feed 3-4 times per medium dungeon.

Difficulty, While the game isn't too difficult I find it really difficult to focus on particular characters to get them leveled up. Especially when you need to leave the dungeon just to keep them alive, costing you the xp.

Another thing I would like to see is an actual combat turn order display, maybe a small bar at the top when in combat. I feel like right now its not in any actual order and characters fight at random since I have seen someone get a first round turn right after they ended the last round.

Seeing videos of this has made me really sad that I didn't back it. Will definitely pick this early access when I have some cash.

Yeah I agree wholeheartedly.

Stress is ridiculously difficult to relieve for the speed at which it can pile on.

And the amount of times I get screwed by not being able to hit the enemies like 75% of the time is just plain infuriating.

That said I absolutely love this game and can't stop playing.

Maybe I'll end up playing so much that I'll git gud eventually.

Man I was cruising right along, never failing a mission, and then the Swine Prince WRECKED me. I'd even already beaten the boss after (Hag) without much trouble.

The prince did attacks that dealt 7-9 damage to all party members, with a chance to stun, twice each round. Not sure how I'm supposed to get through that with a cap of Resolve 2 on all party members. It's just too much damage.

The Necromancer was easy and the Hag felt balanced, but this was on another level.

You're doing way better than I am. I fought the Hag and lost to her because I ran due to the fact that I went in with all melee and no ranged attacks and literally could not even touch her. Haven't tried again since. I should work on some ranged attackers.

And I thought "NeoGAF is a nexus of hardcore gamers" pfft
Nope, filthy casual here. I just watched a 30 minute clip the earlier that had me fully on board for the Vita version, but feedback like:

... intimidates the hell out of me. I'm sure it will be balanced as it nears release, but if there's a baby mode I can totally see myself playing that way instead. I don't think I can deal with losing progress because the game put me in an unwinnable situation because RNG.

I love the idea of this game, but yeah Im in the scared shitless camp. The game is all about stress, and it seems like its really stressful to play.

I play the hell out of it and its not that stressful truthfully. As for the internal stress I just view it as one more stat that finally kills a character like life but different. After that I try to take care of it as much as possible but dont die if character go insane:)

Don't be, while my comments make it sound negative I don't mean to be. It's EA so I want to provide feedback to make the game better. I have put a ton of time into the game already and loving every min.

Only tip I can give to new players is:
DO NOT GET ATTACHED TO YOUR FIRST DOZEN OR SO RECRUITS!
They will be gone in a flash more likely than not.

I've only lost one so far. I really like the deathblow mechanic. You can also get deathblow resistance too which is pretty crazy.

So far I have 5 characters at lvl 3 so I'm starting harder dungeons. I've beaten the first 3 bosses so far. I like how they are all different and aren't just about having massive hit points for everyone.

Man, I still can't even launch the game. None of their suggested fixes help either =/ It shows up for just a second that I'm playing Darkest Dungeon on my friends list, then just goes away. No window ever opens up or anything.

I feel I'll need to restart fresh and keep some starter guys alive long enough to level up because at this point any new recruits are either dead after 2-3 combat rooms/halls or fully stressed out halfway through a dungeon.

Think of it as meta. Your characters overcome maxing out their stress, you overcome maxing out your stress. It builds character!

You have to get people that can either stun/kill/move the backrow people that do stress attacks. I don't even really need to heal except for bosses.

It also helps to have a high crit person, every time you crit you lose some stress.

Also, having a move that can change your character's position can be really useful. You can get knocked around, surprised by camping, etc. Just moving a character and wasting a turn can be really bad because you will take tons of extra damage.

Do you have the Steam overlay on, or any other overlay? That caused a different game of mine to break just like this.

So far the punishing aspect is mainly RNG. While it's not unwinnable itself, there is some unwinnable moments because RNG decided to screw you : you surprise the enemy yet your party order randomly change, you will miss most moves, enemies will crit your head hard and DoT everyone, your party will freak out and suicide/refuse get heal, or even move, your knight will take cover behind your priest, etc... and you can only watch it happen slowly and completely powerless.

Exaggeration aside, the game is really enjoyable but there's still a lot of tweaks to do in order to feel more like you failed because of your own mistakes rather than just the bad side of the dice. So if that's not your kind of thing, you might want to wait to see how things will evolve during the early access.

I wish there were less unlogical things to have a better immersion too, and not be under the impression that you just mindlessly roll a dice for every action. Getting a "Know Cheat" quirk while searching a pile of book and things like that doesn't help much in that regard.

Are you on Mac? Cause this very same issue happened to me until yesterday's patch (900+ MB) which resolved everthing.

I meant the information below enemies (after you highlight/hover_over them), which I am assuming it should be in textual context.

Cool ass game, watched Lirik play it the last few days and definitely plan on jumping in for myself. This one is right up my alley.

Saw this get a shoutout on Jimquisition. Procedural dungeons are not for me but the concept overall sounds really cool and the footage i saw looked nice. Congrats to all involved.
