Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

I can't handle it anymore... I just can't... I just want to curve into a ball and never release my body until march... Please... Gods, make it happen...

These graphic whores annoy me. Game looks off the charts
Why does people caring about something you don't annoy you?

People aren't 'concern trolling' when the game legitimately seems to have major aliasing issues and point it out. Many people have said they bought the PS4 because its the more powerful console and probably expect that things like IQ are going to be decent, at least on the exclusive titles, so lets not play the victim game here.

Nobody is saying they aren't buying the game anymore or that it doesn't look fun because of it. But its still disappointing compared to the standards of other PS4 exclusives.

Looks fantastic. Game can't get here soon enough.

Yeah

got vibe from this

It's a FromSoftware game. Anyone who expected it to look like The Order is either just ignorant of the developer's history, or is being obtuse in order to instigate. People loved the predecessors, technical flaws and all, yet suddenly it's a big issue that the 4th game has a similar rawness?

Souls games have never been games for graphics whores. They have atmosphere, mood and design like nothing else, but they just aren't going to be graphical showcase type games.

Bloodborne |OT| You Concerned

Bloodborne |OT| You Concerned... In Vein

Im still fond of some of the others I came up with earlier

  • Bloodborne |OT| You Died ... in Vein

  • Bloodborne |OT| Blood In Blood Out

  • Bloodborne |OT| Type Oh, Be Positive

  • Bloodborne |OT| I Ain't Afraid of No Beast

If there's something strange in the neighborhood who you gonna call?

BEAST HUNTERS!

No one is asking for it to look as good as The Order. Just that the aliasing be cleaned up. Its especially bad. If it was 60fps, it might be understandable, but at 30fps? And only one platform? That's fairly poor.

I caved and watched it. Looks about as good as I hoped. It is a souls game through and through. I wonder if fog gates are still present though, since they were in the "Project Beast" video.

Don't blame the fans for not 'just accepting that's how they are', when they are showing technically proficient screens and clips as if it's going to be like that in the final product. Mostly talking about DS2, but I won't be surprised if this game goes that route as well.

No, no game should be just about graphics, but they don't get a pass to do this just because their game design is good.

Please read the thread valnen did say that

More precisely every game should look like the order

Doesn't seem like you have been keeping up with this thread.

People wouldn't be complaining about ''concern trolls'' and whatnot if there weren't any insane expectations or complaints just like that.

They gave us blight town. I wouldn't put anything past them technical wise but I hope that everything gets a nice polish before release.

Indeed. That said, current visual fx is far better than what I had expected sans the shimmering (caused by aliasing iirc) which may prove to be a distraction to the point of becoming a detriment to the immersion and gameplay itself.

I generally don't see eye to eye with user SeanSpeed, when it comes to graphical expectations; however, in this case, I have to concur with him (with regards to cleaning up the IQ).

That screenshot was pretty damning, but it looks fine in motion. Still not as pretty as previously shown footage, but hopefully that has more to do with curation than an actual "downgrade."

Yes they do, as they should.

Design is far more important than graphics.

"Downgrade" is just a shit-stirring word for bored gamers. Devs should always aim high and readjust as they go.

I think the big issue is less to do with the games than the fact that we've all bought underpowered consoles (compared to PCs) and will be stuck with them for years to come.

Underpowered means paying for something more expensive than the market price, which is completely not true.

Not as powerful as high-end PC =/= Underpowered.

Let's not forget that this "Underpowered" console has games like Driveclub & The Order, both look better than any PC game in the same genre.

EDIT: Sorry that was an old post, I had that tab open for a while.

First of all I don't know what technically proficient screens and clips you're talking about because this latest footage has the most solid frame rate of anything we've seen. All the promo stuff and all the alpha footage up till now have had rocky frame rates at best, so I dispute your claim. Using DS2 as a stick to beat FromSoft with over Bloodborne is a spurious argument so I'm just disregarding that point entirely.

As to your second point, no one gets "a pass" or doesn't. You make your purchasing decision based on the balance of design, gameplay, and all the other things that are important for you. The series has been consistently great since its first entry, so the concern crowd suddenly popping up to lay into the developer when the series has never lived or died by its technical qualities is suspicious.

I don't think it is a fair argument to say that just because a person hasn't played previous series that they aren't able to critique a game for what looks like a shallow presentation. Purely talking about how it is being presented not the actual game. I would hope this game is amazing and adds a lot of revenue to the developers so they can continue making a popular game. I know some of you guys are talking light hearted though.
er, your ''critique'' was that "you're not impressed", and then asked if you were overlooking something. you wrote the answer to that in your post by yourself, which is "I never played a souls game before."
not sure what's shallow about this or other presentations of the game but these are games that can't really be appreciated too much by some rushed video of the gameplay, especially if you have no previous knowledge of the series.

Yes they do, as they should.

"Downgrades" are just a shit-stirring word for GAF drama queens. Devs should always aim high and readjust as they go.

I agree that design is more important, but again, that doesn't excuse dishonest footage. (again, not talking about this game yet) If it's so apparent that FROM can't provide that kind of fidelity, then why are they showing it in the first place? Why is that ok?

I don't know why anyone wants to be part of watching a game devolving over time until release. I'd think everyone would rather it be the other way around.

Except a lot of people didn't think so with DS2? So, that's exactly why I'm using that as a reason why people would be concerned. How is that hard to understand?

Agreed. I'm not bothered by aliasing nearly as much as others. I'd live with aliasing for a higher frame rate any day of the week, but for the given frame rate it does look rough. The art design is fantastic. It's just a shame this developer is not more proficient on the technical side.

Oh my bad, ONE person said it. Excuse me.

This is just arbitrary.
I don't think you're using that word properly.

The amount of times you allude to this yet you still have no idea what the answer is.

C'mon son.
I know what the answer is. I wanted to see what his response was.

Doesn't seem like you have been keeping up with this thread.

I see people complain about concern trolls plenty elsewhere when its just people acting butthurt over people criticising something they're excited about. Its become a fairly annoying label people throw at somebody to instantly dismiss their thoughts without needing any strong argument themselves.

From what I've read, I don't see anybody(well ok, apparently Valnen was being unreasonable) having insane expectations.

They gave us blight town. I wouldn't put anything past them technical wise but I hope that everything gets a nice polish before release.
You'd think Sony could throw in some help to get the technical side of things sorted a bit better. It is their game, after all.

Give examples?
Is it doing what Bloodborne is doing?

And another rhing
How often does a preview from a year ago ever look as good on release for consoles (pc snobs back up)
Examples of better looking PS4 games? Come on man, don't make me bring up the obvious ones. Are they doing what Bloodborne is doing? Yea, I'd say. And more.

Man. I didn't think saying that the aliasing looks particularly bad and I'd expect better from a PS4 exclusive was so unreasonable, but I guess not. Sorry for having 'insane expectations'.

People need to learn the history of FROM they do not make technical masterpieces, the PS3 was also the most powerful console yet Demon's Souls got outshined by many other exclusives. Also the IQ is decent can we please stop the hyperbole.

"A lot of people didn't think so" is a meaningless statement. A lot of people don't think the Beatles were a good band. A lot of people also think things that are demonstrably false.

You are also now talking about something completely different. At first you were concerned about a possible Bloodborne downgrade (it hasn't been downgraded), and now you're just saying that because some people thought DS2 was crappy (DS2, which was #5 for Gaf GOTY) that people have a right to be concerned?

Just watched the 1gb vid and the game looks very good. It is not at the top of PS4 graphical powerhouses but it is by no means an ugly game. Yes the aliasing is pretty rough but they clearly state its an early build at the beginning. It may or may not look better come release. I would suggest downloading the larger video file as it does look very good.

The IQ is not 'decent', my god.

And I'm perfectly aware of FROM's history. I am not asking for a technical masterpiece.

It's arbitrary that you should decide what frame rate is acceptable for a game's graphical quality when what you're judging it on is an 18 minute YouTube video. The shimmering you guys are talking about is highly exacerbated by the compression of the video. It is present in the game, but not to the degree you can see on YouTube. But the thing is that I would expect someone who fancies himself to be the arbiter on what is graphically acceptable or not to be wary of things like video compression on preview footage.

What you say might be true about people complaining about concern trolls in other threads and i can understand that if used unwarranted it will quickly become an annoying label.

However in this thread i have seen some legitimate trolling/shitting:

People saying everything should at least look as good as The Order if not better are not just being ''unreasonable'', they are having insane expectations.

People claiming downgrades without giving any substantial evidence or examples while ignoring those that bring up the different lightning due to the difference in time of day.

And then there were those saying that this looks like a PS3 game and then there are those saying that even that would be a compliment.

Sorry but if it was just people complaining about the AA and the shimmering (which are definitely a problem) then i don't think people would be bringing up ''concern trolling'' the way it's being brought up now.

Just my 2cents though.
