Are you ready ?

A. Yes B. No

I go out to class and find that GAF already has already written 2000 posts before I get back. You guys never let me down.

But Jaysus...that trailer was more than I dreamed would come of the livestream. Everything about the game looks like everything I wanted. Production values for days, oozing its own unique aesthetic, and looks like some significant changes to gameplay and environment interaction as well. As someone still playing Persona 4 for the first time, I'm delighted I don't have to wait long for more.

I kinda wish it was a college story. Maybe someday. That being said college life in Japan isn't considered to be very interesting.

It's been said countless times that high school is the "freedom" period for Japanese students, as opposed to the American student's freedom period which is college.

Yeah he's the main character. That's the new velvet room from what we've seen. And no, I doubt that's his shadow because we have this:

Which shows the main character with obvious shadow eyes.

Shadow selves are a P4 thing and it'd be dumb for them to reuse them. It's either his persona or he's transforming into his persona.

Was not expecting it to be that different from 3 or 4. Glad they went balls to the wall style this time. Loved the trailer and first game I've been super excited for in a long time.

Hopefully the wait is not that long overall.

Something like that...

They never did. I don't expect them. The Persona Team works exclusively on console games. And if SCE helped fund or develop this game (PS4 version), it will stay Playstation only (ever since the inception of this franchise).

I'd actually like this cover, just remove the white edges, and we good!

Or considering that the characters are more in a moral grey area, perhaps they can harness the power of their shadow selves. Which has been in Persona games before 4.

Well I didn't get to play P4 because no vita but I'm hyped!

I'll blame everyone here if this doesn't meet my expectations.

I really thank to whoever decided to make PS4 version.

That's exactly what you're looking at in the trailer: the PS4 version. And it is beautiful.

That amazing Catherine-esque art style.
That total upgrade from P3 and P4 in every aspect.
That cast of characters that actually looks good.

Pure awesome.

I can't watch this trailer enough times. I'm guessing the cat is gonna be more like Teddie and less like Koromaru? I don't really mind mascot characters that much but I just hope he doesn't feel like a rehash of Teddie.

Man, watch the second teaser trailer for Persona 5 and notice how that could not prepare anyone for what the game actually is. Amazing.

Velvet room being a jail cell would be really interesting and fitting.

Certainly an interesting interpretation, since the Velvet Room reflects the heart of the guest it is meant for. That's what it probably is, too, since you can see both Velvet Room assistants in front of that jail, during that scene, in the trailer.

In case you're too old to remember, high school drama typically happens in high school. P4 is a reasonably genuine depiction of teenagers discovering their identities (sexual, societal, etc.) seen through the lens of a JRPG.

Yes and its been discussed a billion times already in anime, television, and film. And its just a genre I dont like, mostly because its so repetitive and retreading the same ground over and over again. While I missed out on Catherine (dont like traditional puzzle games), the change of setting seemed far more interesting to me personally and something I hoped would have carried over to Persona.

Shadow selves were in Persona 2 long before Persona 4. They were exactly the same concept, too, even though their origins differed.

If reusing those kinds of shadows in Persona 5 would be dumb, doing the same in Persona 4 probably was, too.

Just wanna say that Atlus really knows how to make their protagonists look confident. I find a lot of Japanese games make their MCs look like herbivore men, but the protagonists from P3, 4, and 5 all look headstrong enough in their actions and expressions for me to actually like them.

The "destination" this time is going to be let out of jail probably.

I'm sure it's been said on here already, but the thread has moved so fast and I don't have the time to search right now; but the way he burns up at the end, and then it cuts to the logo with the persona summon sound, are we thinking that's the way they summon, (or possibly transform), this game?

It's been said countless times that high school is the "freedom" period for Japanese students, as opposed to the American student's freedom period which is college.

That's such a weird statement, because Japanese high school is when you're cramming for college. College is when your grades don't matter and you go to a bunch of parties for 3 years, or get involved in more extra curricular activities, and date more, at least until you're a 4th year and then all you're doing is looking for a job.

I guess high school is where most of those feelings take bud, though. It's more the struggle for freedom in an environment where you're forced to confirm.

Edit:

I really like the wild look in their eyes at times. A bit disturbing. I guess I should finally play P3P.

I'm disappointed that they seem to be sticking to turn-based combat. Hopefully they add some wrinkles to make that a little less static.

Outside of that, this is looking really good. I was going to hold out for a Vita version, but this is looking too good to pass up.

Yeaaaaahhhhh that looked incredible. The new stealth mechanics look interesting and I'm LOVING the art style. I wonder if there are only four main characters this time or if that's all they've chosen to reveal for now.

It sounds like you're involving yourself in content you don't like for flimsy personal reasons and then complaining why it's bad after the fact. There's no real basis for certain things in Catherine translating to the biggest international property of Atlus.

what a disappointing looking game. I am baffled at atlus for producing this throughout all of the time they have had. back to waiting for witcher 3 I suppose

Not really many other console turn-based rpgs nowadays. I'd rather they not go the route of the dime-a-dozen ARPG formula like everyone else.
