Paragon of Decency: So I found some pictures of my boss.....

So I work for a company doing basic IT and Help Desk types of stuff. And yesterday our CEO asked me if I would mind taking an old laptop that he wanted to give to one of his sons and clean it up a bit. Fresh Windows install, that kind of shit. I told him of course not.

So today he brings it in and gives it to me. I ask him if he wants me to backup any of his old files so he can copy them to his new laptop and of course he said yes. Now this is something I've done for people countless times, and I always respect their privacy and don't go snooping around in their folders. But I normally check someone's documents folders to make sure there's something in there before I copy it.

I get to his pictures folder and everything is fine but then something catches my eye. A file named "nudeee.jpg". Naturally curiosity got the best of me and I couldn't help but click it. And there's our CEO standing base-ass naked in front of a mirror Anthony Weiner style. Then I look back at the folder and see that are tons more of these ranging from "nudee.jpg" to "nudee32.jpg". Then I see ton's of pictures of women's feet and even a folder full of photos of his wife in lingerie.

I feel like there's a slight chance he might know that I've seen them because about 10 minutes after he dropped it off he came running back into my office asking how it was going. He looked at the monitor and could see in the dialog box that I was copying his picture folder. He mentioned something like "ahhh, yeah... pictures folder... lots of old stuff from my photography days." I just said cool and went back to reading CNN while I was waiting.

So... what do I do now? I make decent money so I don't feel like I should try and blackmail him into a raise or anything, but at the same time these definitely seem like they could possibly be useful some day.

Just do the honourable thing and take the pics of his wife to masturbate over and leave the rest alone.

I'm deadly serious about this OP. Make a personal copy and blackmail his ass if he threatens to fire you. Better yet, paste those pictures of his wife all over the city and smash a keyboard on his face if he thinks about firing you.

In all seriousness however, leave them alone. What happens between a man and his wife is his business, but how could he so so stupid to leave a large volume of his sensitive photographs exposed like that?

If you want porn on your laptop, hide it in the system files folder for lord's sake!

You should never intentionally look through someone's files without their permission. It's easy enough to backup their picture folder without entering it. Don't do anything stupid with those files, don't even mention you saw them, just fix the computer, give it back, and think about what it means to do what you did. You'll realize you were in the wrong.

I'm going to assume that you live in a country where extortion/blackmail is illegal and in many cases, a felony. The fact that you would even consider it makes you an asshole OP.

So many holier-than-thou's. I don't want to or plan to blackmail this dude, but it's just a fucking weird situation now. So very very weird.

And yeah his wife is kind of hot.

Knowing he has a massive cock made you uncomfortable around him?
No.... no he doesn't.

The fact that OP's actually responding to these questions as if it's a normal topic of conversation makes me think this isn't real...

So many holier-than-thou's.

Following the requirements of your job + Not wanting to get fired and throw away your career + Following legal requirements + Not wanting to get sued = "holier-than-thou?"

My first piece of advice would be to not write up a post about the details on an internet forum.

But wheres the fun in that?

This is the simplest and bestest advice.

Shyamalan twist.

"Hey dad, I was using the laptop you had an employee clean up for me, and I found this thread that sounds eerily similar. Check it out."

Why the fuck would you say this then?

In what way could these pictures possibly be useful to you?

Its a weird situation because you purposefully went looking for goodies and then asked a gaming forum about whether you should save them as blackmail fodder

That's pretty fuckin weird, you're right.

I've seen some shit after 10 years of helpdesk work. My god, the shit I've seen.

You learn real fucking quick who the freaks are.

You can't blackmail someone with pictures of themselves and pictures of them being faithful to their wife..

Now, if he had different women..

Leverage isn't technically blackmailing.

Give him a subtle hint that you've got the drop on him, like saying "Nice dick" and winking at him. That'll get you a raise. Heck, that would probably get you a raise if you didn't see the images.

but why would the son have pics of his naked dad and mom on his laptop, hm?

Just write the question on a piece of paper with a y/n T chart and post it in the break room, then check back later for your coworker's votes.

Don't even think about using it against him.

On another note this is why you don't mix work with this type of shit.

it really isn't. your superior trusted you with a personal favor. it's likely he forgot those photos were on there when he asked to do this, but since he didn't just awkwardly rip the laptop out of your hands giving you some BS excuse to stop, he's clearly expecting you to do the personally and professionally right thing, and that's not to say or do a goddamn thing about it. the fact you're having this 'issue' says more about your inability to be trusted than it does about what your boss does in his personal time behind closed doors.

It'd be funny if there was some way for him to see recently opened files and saw those ones in particular during your backup. OP you might know right from wrong but what you did is still trash regardless of the circumstances. You should feel bad.
