After next week's additional Famitsu coverage, I'm probably out when it comes to reading up all of the P5 info, myself. I've been going through any and all P5 mentions with a magnifying glass until now, but it's about that time...

I think we would of all moved on (in the sense of being at peace with P3's ending) if Atlus did not include Elizabeth's quest in P4A and P4.
I think I might do the same as well, depending on how much they show in the next PV. I'll be back just for the music though.

I wonder if the cat doesn't have the light blue eyes in the sections where the other folks have colored ones because it wears its Sin/Lust on its sleeve and makes it readily apparent where the others are hiding their sins more.

Its not just the cat with different eye colours.
Ryuji normally has brown eyes, Anne has blue eyes and MC has black eyes. Even in their phantom costumes this is true. Iirc the only time we see them with red/yellow/green eyes is in the anime bits.

So I started Persona 2: IS a few hours ago because everybody was talking about how they were getting P2 vibes from the P5 teasers. I'm really liking it so far, especially because of how that game does cutscenes only using sprites and their movement is pretty charming. Encounter rate seems nuts, though.
Also, since people were hating on the SMT negotiation system: How you recruit demons in Persona 2 is actually quite fun and doesn't feel very random at all. You have 4 gauges for each of the demon's emotions which show you how your dialogue choices affect their mood and I don't think any of them have just asked me for random items, health or money yet. So most frustrating parts of negotation are not an issue in P2. One demon I convinced but had too low of a level for even gave me money for my troubles! Plus, each of your party members also has his own unique actions they can do to interact with demons which affects them differently. It's really cool, so far.
If they did negotiation as a mixture of P2 and some new systems I'd be down for it. Like I said, they could incorporate S-Links into the equation to make interactions with demons whose arcana's S-Link you have a high level in give you a bonus or more options.

Never tried the pre-3 Persona games because I heard horror stories about the encounter rates.

Yeah, I feel ya. I've been playing through Digital Devil Saga 1 before this which is also notorious for its encounter rate so I guess I just got used to it. At least Persona/SMT always knew how to make combat feel snappy.
Edit: There were items and skills in Nocturne to modify your encounter rate. Can I get anything like that in P2?
This is pretty great. I love these kinds of analysis even if I'm not confident in a lot of what was said.
At first I thought the clothing aspect was at odds with the fact that, especially for the MC, all the characters seemed to act more natural, aside from the weird animated intro segments, when in costume and the fact that many people have come away with the idea that while the masks and costumes hide their identities they also allow the characters to be their true selves who they have to cover up and hide due to the shackles of every day life. Which doesn't initially jive with the idea that those outfits that allow them to be their true selves would also have these markers of guilt.
But it actually makes a kind of sense. In the real world they disguise themselves with whatever fascade they put up, it's masks everything about them, good and bad. But in the otheworld, when wearing the masks and costumes they're able to be the person they really are, but that also means they're not able to cover the bad and sinful aspects of their true self as well. So the idea that the MC would wear his red gloves, and the others the red scarf and red jumpsuit makes sense. They're able to be who they really feel they are, but at the same time they can no longer hide those sinful aspects of their true nature like they can in the real world. To be themselves completely they have to accept, or at least cannot hide, the good and the bad about who they really are.
Yeah I'm not sure I buy into the whole eye color aspect. Both MC and the Cat have red eyes during the animated section on the highway, but in the actual gameplay they don't. As well I wonder how the whole eye color thing plays into the fact that the MC's eyes turn yellow during his apparent transformation into that winged demon we've seen. Could that be a gameplay element, that the MC is capable of embodying all the Sins, since that list wasn't just the 7 deadly sins but a couple others as well, being hollow and void, either of which could actually be for the MC. Meaning he is an empty vessel, kind of like The Fool arcana, and can thus embody all the other sins/persona at will. Which makes sense a bit because his normal eye color is black and in the otherworld it's more light grey which is kind of what you picture with the void/hollow.
If I had to hazard a guess I'd say the MC is Hollow while the main antagonist if there is one is Void. The MC can take on any of the sins, he's an empty vessel. While the antagonist most likely would be the void which would likely consume and destroy.

Yeah, I think that's why they decided on masks as the motif like Guns and and Glasses were for P3 and P4. Taking it a step further, if the idea that you transform into your persona is true, you can consider this one step further in the process of breaking your old self that's discontent with life, as was stated to be a focus in the game. It's really interesting how a little bit of info and this trailer may contain so much info, lol.
On the eyes thing, It might not actually be reflected in the game itself but simply in the teaser as those sequences are animated. We haven't seen this negative/shadow world either though.

I've been wanting to try P2 also, especially after I've been playing P3:FES again recently with the whole Maya social link. But that means I'd have to buy a PSTV, and well...

There's a Playstation version, not just the PSP one. Surely you have something that plays either a PSOne classic or just straight up a PSX disc on an emulator?

I thought Innocent Sin wasn't available on PSN for PS3 play? I thought PSP/Vita/PSTV was the only way to play both localized?

All of the PSP releases are clearly the best versions. EP portable was never localized, however, so the only option for an English speaker right now would be to play the PSX version via PSN.

South American country, sadly I'm not sure I can afford one. (Or rather, not too smart to do so)
